 Urban Decay Holidays 2012

I have two younger sisters and whenever I’m stuck for a pressie idea for them, I turn to Urban Decay. Their palettes have never let me down – quality is consistently high and you can be assured of good value for the amount of product  that you get. Today we’re taking a look at some of their holiday releases – if you still have women on your list to buy for, you could do a lot worse than picking up any of these.

 Urban Decay Build Your Own

Build Your Own 4-Pan Palette – Rock

Urban Decay Build Your Own

We love the concept behind the brand’s Build Your Own palettes and, right in time for Christmas, they’ve launched two 4-pan varieties.  These are brilliant – for the price of a single shadow (€17), you get a universally flattering neutral in a cute little palette with three empty spaces, just waiting to be filled with your favourite shades. Choose from Melt, a shimmery peach, or Rock, a sparkly taupe, and take it from there!

 Urban Decay The Vice Palette

Vice is the perfect all-occasion palette with 20 brand new shades, ranging from bright pink (Noise) and sparkly green (Junkie) to neutrals like Nevermind (pale golden brown) and Laced (a light warm brown).  It comes in a sturdy purple plastic case, topped with a jewelled ‘UD’. If the outside of mine looks a little grubby, it’s cos a single shadow the brand sent me shattered in transit (I’m still in mourning). This is €47 which, cost per shadow, is a pretty sweet deal.

 Urban Decay The Vice Palette

Whether you own the Smoked palette or not, I think you’re gonna love the Smoked 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set. The formula on these babies is just divine – they’re so creamy, there’s no drag at all and you have some play time, but once they set they won’t budge. To top it all off, they’re waterproof and come in six gorgeous shades: Demolition (matte darkest chocolate brown), Empire (matte dark purple) Mainline  (matte peacock blue), Smog (my favourite, a metallic copper), Uzi (gunmetal grey with silver micro-glitter) and Zero, their classic black. This set’s €32 from Debenhams.

Urban Decay Smoked 247 Glide On Eye Pencil Set

Finally the brand has also released three zip-around six shadow palettes that each reflect a different side of your personality. Choose from Feminine (see below), Dangerous or Fun – each one comes with a mini Lip Junkie gloss for €34. Now  I haven’t swatched everything in this post because we’d be here all week, but to demonstrate the incredible pigmentation and pay-off that’s characteristic of this brand, I’ve lightly touched three of the shades and then blended them out on my hand. One touch, people. One. The word amazeballs was probably coined to describe an Urban Decay eyeshadow.

Urban Decay Feminine palette

Feminine palette: swatched AC/DC (cool greyed purple), Lost (bronzey brown) and Gunmetal (grey with silver micro-shimmer). Also comes with Bordello (mauve with gold micro-shimmer), Skimp (peachy beige highlight colour), Hijack (metallic teal) and Lip Junkie in Wallflower.

Have you tried anything here yourself? Anything you want to see more of? What’s your pick of the bunch? Quick, to the comments!

Was v surprised to see the feminine palette in TK MAXX recently!

  • Thalia – BARGAIN! Hope you snapped it up!

  • ~Thalia~ says:

I didn’t, the little mini was missing from it and it was a bit smashed up and, if I’m honest, I wasn’t crazy about the colours either.
I would LOVE the eyeliner set, might have to stick that on the wish list! :)

  • Kitty In The City says:

Shame I hardly ever wear eyeshadow as the Vice pallet is lovely, I was looking at it in Debenhams.

  • Aifs says:

I have the Vice palette and it is really lovely. Some unusual shades in there and they blend really well together. I bought it in London just when I thought I had enough Urban Decay Palettes (8 at last count….) The Vice Palette has all new shades so I *had to*

The eyeliners are great. I don’t have that set but I did pick up one that had about 10 or 12 mini liners in it. they’re so handy because they’re colours you wouldn’t use all the time so wouldn’t need the full size. I bought it on the Ferry for a really good price. I had never seen it in a shop.

  • EvieM says:

I really like the look of that Vice palette but seeing as I’ve barely used my Book of Shadows III I think I’ll pass. I bought it at the same time as the Naked palette which I use almost daily,

  • OtherMary says:

The Vice palette, I covet it.

You say they have them in Debenhams? Does make-up ever go on sale?

  • LynnieDoll says:

I use my Naked2 pallett every single day – love it.

  • Rebekah says:

Occasionally you get 10 or 15% off. Knowing UD they’ll probably sell out.
I cant wear UD eyeshadows as i take a reaction. It makes me sad.

  • UD palettes are my go-to prezzie for teenage/20 something ladies too! I love them myself, but I must have every Book of Shadows released so I can’t justify buying any more. The OH’s sister is getting Naked Basics and the Smoked pencil set for Christmas.

Hopefully she doesn’t frequent these parts :P

  • Kat, that’s some good gifting! I can’t wait to have a play with the Naked Basics palette xo

  • Sabina says:

I love the packaging on these. I use the Ammo palette almost everyday. Speaking of how people find bargains in Tk Maxx, I got a Butter lip gloss and nail polish duo for 13euro :D

  • Aisling *Aisling* says:

Loving the Build your own palettes – all brands need to get on board with this concept!
Also *really* like the Vice palette

  • Jennifer says:

UD palettes are amazing! I wear my Naked colours almost everyday, and now consider it a beauty staple – I’d be lost without it! I’d never say no to any of their palettes and would happily buy them all if I could.

  • Lorelei says:

Just picked up an Urban Decay Fun palette for the bargainous price of €15.50! it comes with a mini eyeshadow primer potion instead of lip gloss and a full size oil slick eye pencil- maybe it’s last years offering as it’s not a zip around one like Emma describes above- Still well worth checking your local Sam McAuley’s in case they have anymore!
