Nude Nails: Get The Look For Less

 Nude Nails Trend AW12

I’ve kind of overdosed on this summer’s neons, pastels and brights and I’m ready to fully embrace next season’s nude nail trend. Some might brand it boring, but I think a colour palette of neutrals and nudes is insanely pretty, and will take you anywhere – unlike, say, a fluorescent green glitter, which might get you a few strange looks in the boardroom.

 Nude nails AW12

Predictably enough, I’ve fallen hook line and sinker for Chanel’s Frenzy, that lovely lilac/grey toned nude we showed you here. But at €22, that’s some expensive shizzle – and it won’t hit counters for another three weeks. Luckily there are loads of amazing nude shades, from peach to putty, that are both affordable and available now. Who said cheap can’t be chic?

 Nude Nails

ONE Commander In Chic (far left) is towards the darker end of the spectrum but it’s a great taupe with purple undertones that is definitely one of my go-to nail colours (share yours here!). It’s part of the fab Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure range which are €8.95 a bottle.

TWO Yummy Mummy (above, middle) from 3-free range Butter London is another wonderful wear-anywhere type of nude, with a subtle silver shimmer. These are in and around €15.

THREE Free with June’s Marie Claire (though normally around €10.50), Ciate Bon Bon is a sophisticated mauve toned taupe that’s a couple of shades lighter than Commander In Chic.

FOUR  Another Sally Hansen shade, Nude Now (top) is a peach toned nude that’s a bit warmer than the other shades featured here. It has just a hint of shimmer that stops it looking too flat on the nail.

FIVE I love these L’Oreal Color Riche minis and this one has the most delicious sounding name – Macaron Noisette. It’s another warmer toned nude – a shade or so lighter than Nude Now and with a touch more shimmer. It’s €7.55.

SIX Catrice’s Mona Lisa Is Staring Back (second from the bottom) is such a gorgeous polish – a creamy looking nude with gold shimmer that can be yours for just a couple of euro. We’re big fans of Catrice on Beaut.ie – check this post for your nearest stockist.

SEVEN  Essence is even cheaper than big sister brand Catrice (Oh and psst! keep your eyes out for the relaunched color & go line with 44 shades to choose from at €1.79 each). This shade, Irreplaceable (bottom), is packed with gold shimmer and is a little stunner.

It’s so pretty Andreea, I love it too xo

  • Caroline says:

I love nudes, I have the ciate, catrice and the essence ones. They also make a great base for nail art, nude in the office, dab on a few neon spots n ure ready for night ????

  • ZsaZsa says:

I used to think that they were boring but recently I realised that you can’t go wrong with nude tones as you can find them with different undertones, which makes them a bit more interesting. I love the look of the Ciate Bon Bon and Sally Hansen Nude Now shades you have above!

I like nudes. But then, I hate neons, greens, blues, nail art, feature nails, skittles manis etc etc on anyone over the age of 16. Some nudes work on me, some give me dead man’s hands :)

Normally can’t take to nudes cos I don’t think they suit my skin tone. But I got the free Ciate Bon Bon & I love it under various top coats, glittery ones to jazz it up & lighter shimmer type ones for more conservative situations. It’s gorgeous under OPI Last Friday Night, makes it looks more mauve/lilac & very sparkly but still understated

Perfect timing this post! Thank you!

  • I don’t usually decide to paint my nails nudey shades, only if I’ve a glitter top coat close to hand. They make my sausage fingers look even more sausage like, like BBQ sausages instead of Superquin ones… I do love Commander in Chic though and the Chanel one is bootiful, jus not on my pingies

  • Littlesis says:

Some beautiful shades there, so classy. Like the gals, with my skintone, some nudes make me look like I’ve been smoking fags incessantly for 35 years.
I tend towards the ‘greige’ rather than a peachy nude for that reason.

  • Littlesis, I prefer the cooler toned shades for the exact same reason xo

  • Gorgeous choices, Em!

I love a good nude, Essie’s Brooch the Subject and Leighton Denny’s Supermodel are faves of mine too. They’re gorgeous alone for office wear but, with neon or white designs on top, they’re phenomenal too.

Matte top coats also do my nudes a lot of favours.

There was a comment on Bristish Beauty Blog the other day that got me thinking, she was swatching MAC’s new Skin (a peachy beige)polish and one of the girls remarked that MAC should know better than to alienate a huge portion of their customers by naming that colour ‘Skin’ or using the name ‘Nude’ for similar colours. I’d never thought of it like that before…

  • Sue – that’s an excellent point.

  • Velveteen says:

Oh Karen….I just spat tea all over the place here when I read your finger/sausage comparison. You’re one funny chica!

I bought Commander in Chic this morning and have just tested it on one finger so far and am quite liking it!

  • Laura says:

Essence is so good for nail polish. For less than €1.30 it’s such a bargain! I actually don’t really own many nude shades, I must stock up on some now! :)

  • Liz says:

I just love Essie’s Sand Troupez (which is supposedly a dupe for Chanel Frenzy) – It’s been my hm-what-nailpolish-shall-I-use-today shade since it came out last year, and I’m not even tempted to pick up Frenzy because the formula of that Essie polish is amazing! It lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts…

Back to Chanel though, I love Chanel Innatendu. It came out a few springs ago but was completely overshadowed by Particulaire. I like the effect this one gives if you just use a coat, in a semi-sheer way.

  • Breige says:

I REALLY want the Essence one but can’t find it anywhere :(

  • Shanna says:

    Irreplaceable has been discontinued :(

I don’t do nudes, they look weird on me. I do have that Sally Hansen one and I love it!

  • Chris says:

I always eye Sally Hansen Nude Now when I’m at the store, but I am iffy about how it will look on my tanned complexion. The peachy tones make me think of sherbet. :P

  • Breige says:

Shanna, I figured it was :( I never had it and it looks soooooooo nice!

  • Shanna, sad news! Hopefully there will be something similar when they bring out the new range of color & go.
