The Warrior: *The* Hottest Body Type For The New Season. Apparently.

300 meets the apprentice

It’s impossible to open a magazine at the moment without tripping over an article extolling the virtues of what is, we’re told, the most desirable body type of SS11. The Warrior, as it’s been dubbed, is basically a sporty womanly physique that’s toned without being overly lean or skinny, and Rihanna’s a good example of the shape we’re supposed to be aspiring to at the minute.

Now, I have a couple of problems with all this Warrior nonsense business. I don’t subscribe to the notion that this season’s (or next season’s, or the following season’s) shape of the moment genuinely suits everyone. If you’re thinking that it behoves everyone to be fit and healthy, actually, well hop down off your high horse and let me tell you something.

The Warrior isn’t just about shifting the extra Christmas pounds born of a diet of Roses and USA biscuits. It’s about having the increased muscle mass to make you look all Sporty Spice and really prove that you’ve been working out.

In addition, it makes me sad that the proper curvy silhouette à la Christina Hendricks didn’t stick around for a bit longer on beauty and fashion’s fickle radar. And the Warrior sounds like it requires an awful fecking lot of effort; at least you could create the illusion of a ’50s pin-up rack with a good bra and a few chicken fillets and cinch yourself in with a big waist belt to cheat an hourglass shape.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. Pass the dumbbells there ’til I get me Amazon on…

(sorry Lynnie, I just had to use that picture, it was too good an opportunity to miss – Kirstie)

this picture made me laugh so much!jesus what do they want ffrom us?!first were supposed to be ‘heroin chic’ Kate Moss skinny, then Beyonce curvy, now they expect us to be curvy and ridiculousy toned aka muscely. Gimme a break!

This is news to me. Love the Christina Hendricks curvey look, think she is amazing.
On the Mad Men front whats with RTE putting it on at an ungodly hour on monday nights. Thats bad enough but then we have to endure the utter c**p of Mrs. Brown on a prime time slot. Its so annoying.

  • This warrior business does not work very well with my own favourite thing for 2011 so far, which is those bags of mini creme eggs, so I think I’ll be leaving it to Rihanna.

Ridiculous!! Though I’m not sorry to see the Christina Hendricks curvy look go out of ‘fashion’ either because I haven’t a curve in my body so sick of bring told curvy is beautiful, real women have curves etc etc!

    That picture’s hilarious :)
Warrior, no thanks. I much prefer the Christina Hendricks shape, who the hell wants sinewy arms & legs?! BerG completely agree, I’m going to have to get the DVDs of Mad Men, keep forgetting it’s on – Mrs. Brown takes sh*te to a new level.

This makes me sad! There is no hiding I have an hour glass shape, I eat too much most of the time and am heavier now than I’ve ever been ion my life. Save to say I’m not a warrior!

That’s me fooked, not a hope of me looking like a warrior. AT 4’11″ I doubt I’d be a vey useful one anyway. I have no choice but to be curvy, even when my waist shrinks my baloobas are always a decent size, as are my hips so I will have to make do with being unfashionable this season. *sigh*

Eimear – I’m with you, I’m addicted to creme eggs and mini eggs, oh and then there are those yummy caramel eggs. All of this chocolatey eggy goodness just isn’t good for my warrior physique.

On Goks programme last night he was emphasising that the perfect shape (or the one we should aspire to) is the hourglass, so much for the warrior then!

  • Roisin says:

This is the height of ridiculousness – we’re all different!

  • Sarah says:

    Bahahaha at pic :)

Yeah the warrior thing aint gonna happen for me. Im the squidgey round the edges type. Feck it sure as long as you’re happy with yourself there’s no point aspiring to a type. In saying that I’ve gone from squidgey to doughy which needs to be rectified but all in good time!
