Bourjois Volume Glamour Ultra Curl Mascara Review

bourjois

I picked up Bourjois Volume Glamour Ultra Curl mascara, €11.99, when buying the Effet Smoky eye pencils a while back and I've been using it faithfully ever since. Even my beloved Maybelline Full'n'Soft has been confined to the unused depths of my makeup bag during that time, so you've probably guessed by now that this will be a positive review.

Promising to double the volume of lashes while keeping them beautifully curled, this sounded like the ideal mascara for me. I tend to take the claims on mascara tubes with a pinch of salt, however; what works for one woman often doesn't do anything for the next. In the past I've had so-called volumising and curling mascaras which have been neither and which made my lashes look worse than they did to begin with once applied. Not the case at all with Volume Glamour Ultra Curl.

Unlike some mascaras that need a bit of drying time after opening, this one was perfect from the first go. Thick enough to visibly add volume, it is still smooth enough to taper off into a fine point at the end of the lash, unlike those clumpier formulas which leave a blunt end to the lashes, making them appear shorter rather than longer. The creamy formula means it's easy to build up multiple coats - I can apply three layers for maximum volume without any clumpiness and my lashes also still feel soft to the touch.

It also holds a curl as well as it promises. Where some volumising mascaras are so heavy that they tend to weigh lashes down, this one holds a curl as perfect as it was when I used the curler for the whole day and keeps the lashes fanned out for a lovely wide-eyed effect.

I like my mascara to be as black as can be, and Volume Glamour Ultra Curl doesn't disappoint here. The black is a lovely sooty shade and it maintains the glossy finish even after it dries. There is no smudging or flaking to worry about with it, but it cleans off really easily with my standard eye makeup remover.
