How to best prep your skin for the sun
Is there anything better than holiday prep? Getting all your bits ready and planning.
Even if you are not going away, prepping your skin for the summer months is still a must! Your skin will need some serious hydration after the cold winter months.
Here are some simple ways you can get your skin summer ready:
Exfoliate
Often people associate exfoliation with harsh treatments on the skin. However, daily exfoliation is what keeps our skin clean, fresh and rejuvenated. It is so much more than just a prep for tan. Gentle exfoliation removes dead skin cells from your face and body to prevent a build-up of oils and in turn blemishes. It is a great first step in your skincare routine, it leaves the skin clean and ready to absorb any moisturizer, SPF and makeup to the skin.
Hydrate

Exfoliating only works its best if you do it as part of a skincare routine. After exfoliation, it is essential to hydrate the skin. Use a natural body oil to replace any natural oils lost through exfoliation. During the summer months, the heat can be incredibly drying. By using a natural oil you are restoring that natural balance which will keep your skin in its best condition.
Drink Water
The bodies way of cooling itself down is to sweat. So you will have to drink more water to keep your body hydrated. By keeping your body hydrated, you will ensure your skin has elasticity and an overall more youthful appearance. You should ai to drink 2 litres of water per day.
SPF
This shouldn’t come as a surprise but even with all the research and articles highlighting the importance of SPF people still do not wear it. SPF is a vital step in looking after your skin. Sun damage is irreversible. Getting sunburned even every other year triples your chance of getting skin cancer. Prevention couldn’t be easier, apply SPF every single day. During the summer months remember to reapply, even factor 50.
Fake it
Many people - and not just women - fake it. Their tan that is. If you want to protect your skin from the harmful permanent damage the sun can cause, fake it. Get a spray tan and bring some along with you. It takes the pressure off ‘getting a colour’ and also can make some feel more comfortable when they initially arrive on holidays.
