My Winter Wear Inspiration

I like a good sparkly frock as much as the next magpie, but sometimes even I wish that magazines and websites would dedicate more time to features like “how to look super stylish without freezing your arse off in northern Europe during winter” and significantly less time to features like “ZOMG! 100 best tiny party dresses/tops/strappy sandals!” at this time of year.

Take, for example, the magazine that I have in front of me right now. It challenged three stylistas to style one wardrobe staple 7 different ways over the course of 7 days. I thought it was a great premise for an inspirational styling ideas feature, but of the resulting 21 photos, 14 show bare legs and skirts. And in half of those pictures, the girls in question are wearing open-toe shoes.

During one of the coldest starts to a November on record.

There'd be no such ridiculous bare-legged shenanigans in my fantasy cold weather style magazine features. They'd have headlines like "THREE WAYS WITH UGG BOOTS" or "BEST COAT AND TIGHTS COMBOS" or "WATERPROOF SHOES TRIED AND TESTED" or "COPING WITH HAT HAIR." There'd be tips about wearing socks over tights, and gloves would be given cosiness ratings out of 10 with comments on how effectively they guarded against wind chill, and maybe we'd take a look at how opaque you can go with tights before your shoes start to feel too small.

For inspiration, I'd be going with toasty but tasty looks like these:
