Lust Have: Guerlain’s Gorgeous Meteorites Pearls Compact

guerlain

LOOK at this! I’m currently lusting madly over the latest Guerlain Les Meteorites compact. Available in two shades, a rose and a beige, it’s utterly fabillis.

Now, I don’t need it per se, as I already have a really amazingly nice Les Meteorites, and Guerlain’s formulations are so good that they tend to last for ages, but I do really, really want it. Well, wouldn’t you?

This little baby will be at Guerlain counters now, including Arnotts, and while I’ve no price info, I’m guessing it’ll be round the €100 €50 mark. If you’d like to know where to get one a little cheaper, read on after the cut.

Powder up With Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

dream matte powder

In de interests of fairness in product testing – because in general I only want to use posho products – I’ve been giving Maybelline’s newish Dream Matte Powder a whirl recently. Designed to complement their existing Dream Matte range, this shine-controller comes in a nice chunky compact with a swivel-out mirror and decent enough powder puff. I got rid of that straight away – I find they smear foundation and give a very compressed and chalky finish – and tried it out with a nice soft powder brush instead.

The result? A very sheer finish that sets foundation well and doesn’t add colour – something cheap powders tend to do, and I hate that. The product itself isn’t as silky as something in a more expensive bracket but that’s to be expected. What this is, is a decently priced product (about a tenner) available in 8 shades that’s perfectly good for day-wear.

Personally, I won’t be swapping my Laura Mercier finishing powder for it, but it’s perfectly good product for those on a budget.

Max Factor Launch New Compact Foundation, Miracle Touch

max factor

Jays lads, compacts seem to be all the rage these days, don’t they? Aphrodite blogged about a new Bobbi Brown compact product last week, and on the more affordable end of the scale is Max Factors recent launch, Miracle Touch.

Now, I am a Max Factor fan and I think that they’re definitely one of the best mass-market brands out there. They make base that works, with great coverage that lasts. And Miracle Touch is pretty darn good. Presented in a clever 2 sided compact, you have to unscrew the top (which holds the sponge) to get at the product below – a good idea because it keeps it fresh and prevents it from drying out.

I’m never a fan of sponges in compacts so I think I’d advocate putting this on with fingers or a brush instead. Great for work when you don’t want to waste your nice going-out slap too, I reckon.

MAC Get Artistic With Sculpt & Shade

Friday, February 1st, 2008

On one of my far-too-frequent forays into BT the other night, I espied the MAC equivalent of the contouring palette from Stila that I blogged about last week. MAC’s Sculpt & Shape is available in four shades and is a split-pan, two-in-one jobbie: the darker half is a matte contour powder while the lighter half is a silky highlighting powder containing low-level pearlised pigments to give skin a sophisticated glow. These duo compacts are limited edition, so you’ll need to make a move if you fancy getting your mitts on one.

Benefit’s 10, Stila’s Face Contouring Trio, and now MAC’s Sculpt & Shape Powder? I smell a trend…

Bobbi Brown Cream Compact Foundation

bobbi brown cream compact

Mmmmm this new Bobbi Brown foundation is LAVELY!

My skin can be dry so I always plump for liquid foundations. I think they’re a bit more forgiving. But daringly I came out of my comfort zone to give this a try. It has changed my mind for sure.

Smooth and creamy, it glides onto the face without a trace of powdery drag. It’s formulated to give the most even of finishes and minimise fine lines.

The finish of this compact foundation screams quality. If (like me) you’ve been wary of compacts until now, fear not. I’ve seen the future. It comes in stylish black packaging with a great mirror, gives a great finish – AND you can carry it around in your handbag for easy touchups!

Gorgeous Handbag Mirrors from Belleblu.com

glam rock

Ooh, the bling-fan in me likes this, a lot.

It’s a teeny little mirror compact called the Glam Rock Royalty Mirror Compact, and it’s purrrfect for even the slimmest of clutches, I think. €35 gets you this 2.5 x 2.75 mirror from lovely Irish website Belleblu.com (choose the best sellers section, and scroll through to locate it).

That may seem hefty, but consider that it’s gold plated, enameled and embellished with crystals for that price. Oh, and it’s so nice too!

It’d make a great present, wouldn’t it?

For yourself, wha?

Ooohh Viva Glam Compact

Mac viva glam

MAC are fab at th’auld charidee – each year they do a Viva Glam lipstick and compacts, with the proceeds going to AIDS charities. And this year, there’s a new twist. This gorgeous, luscious Viva Glam compact might be traditional red – but oh, just look at it. Embellished with their royal crown icon, it also comes in two palette choices: Cool and Warm.

Yum. I want both!

Laura Mercier Shimmer Powder

Friday, April 13th, 2007

laura mercierIf you weren’t confused enough already about which highlightin’ shimmerin’ powder to adorn your noggin with, then here’s another one to add to the mix, courtesy of Glittergirl – it’s Laura Mercier’s Shimmer Pressed Powder.

It’s a nice little compact with an embossed sun on the product that’s perfect for Spring / Summer, and which will give skin a warm summer glow and enhance your natural radiance.

The shade is a peachy pink colour, with what appears to be golden highlights – gorgeous!

Buy from Laura Mercier in Brown Thomas stores, and I’d say it’ll be in the 30 region.

Gorgeous Guerlain

guerlain bronzing powderGuerlain really do make the most swish cosmetic goodies, all gorgeously glammed up in gilded baroque packaging. Yum. Apparently Kate Moss, even though she claims to wear Rimmel, won’t be made up with anything less than Guerlain’s top notch gunk – and who could blame her, eh? Not I!

They’re particularly strong on bronzing products I think – their Teracotta range is pretty damn comprehensive and there are products for face and body as well as eyes and lips. And they look so pretty. And of course, they’re not cheap – the bronzer there on the left I saw for €33 tax free in Rome on Monday – and given that this is Ireland, you can bet your sweet ass it’ll be a hell of a lot more expensive here.

But Strawberrynet to the rescue! They have 4 shades of this Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder available for €30.50 (without the fancy brush though), which they say is a 6% saving – but the discount actually quite a good bit more, given how much more expensive cosmetics are here.

Mini Frizz Relief

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

frederik fekkai lift define shine styling compactAh sure lets be having another item about mini products! This one is designed to keep your barnet in check when you’re out and about, and it’s from Frederic Fekkai, the famous French hairdresser extrordinaire, who’s styled the manes of such luminaries such as Liv Tyler, Kim Basinger, Julia Ormond and Holly Hunter. However, that’s according to Wikipedia, so he could well have styled Duncan Goodhew and Keith Wood and no one would be any the wiser.

It’s called the Lift-Define-Shine Styling Compact, and it’ll set you back £19.50 from SpaceNK. But what does it be doing, at all at all? Well, one side contains a Root Lifting/Piecing Wax to give smooth definition to your tresses as well as lift at the roots. The other side contains a Glossing Balm which smooths the cuticle and locks in shine. All that in a teeny compact? Wow – say bye bye to bad hair days!
