So, Ladies. Anyone Got a Spare €860 for La Prairie’s Cellular Cream Platinum Rare?

Aphrodite treated herself to a gorgeous La Prairie facial recently, which may have given you lust-have feelings for the brand. If so, and if you’ve got the guts of a grand to lay down on a pot of face cream (albeit a potentially life/skin-changing face cream), then you can do so from May 10th at Brown Thomas Dublin, where La Prairie’s Cellular Cream Platinum Rare will go on sale.

What do you get for the equivalent of a monthly payment on a  200k mortgage, so? Here be the blurb:

“This product is described as an anti-aging masterpiece that sets the standard for the future in skincare.

It contains real Platinum, the rarest and most costly ingredient, which works to stabilize the skin’s electrical balance to give better hydration, better protection against aging and allows the skin to be more receptive to absorbing essential nutrients.  For the first time in skincare, Platinum Rare, uses a process called ‘Climate Activated Hydration’ to deliver moisture as your skin needs it.”

What do you lot of sensible lassies think, though? Mad in the current budget day climate, or grand if you’ve got the cash to splash?

Me thinks it would be mad at any economical situation, not only current one. And the jar looks kinda small too.
Jeez, imagine buying and getting some kind of an allergy from it?

    I

I was only looking at La Prairie stuff on strawberrynet last night…oh how I covet thee.

I am definitely getting their Caviar eye cream for my 40th next year from myself.

Have used samples of the Skin Caviar Luxe cream and its gorgeous. Very similar to La Mer…but a leetle bit more pricey.

This is why God doesn’t let me win the Lotto.

  • Ruth says:

    Ridiculous, resession or not…

  • Kirstie says:

the jar would want to be the size of dita von teeses martini glass – i.e. I would want to be able to GET INTO IT AND GO TO SLEEP, for that price.

However, if it was amazing and made me look 25 again perhaps I would consider that a worthwhile investment.

  • xgirl says:

I bet they have the tester jar for that inside one of those secure and alarmed glass cases like diamonds are stored in in films :)

  • Millie says:

I THINK NO CREAM COULD POSSIBLY BE WORTH THAT

  • Hannah says:

You see Kirstie…that’s exactly it…if it was as brilliant as it should be for that price it would be worth it surely? Look at how much a year some women spend on Botox, or shoes, or hairdos etc. If you kept spending down in some areas then it would be well worth it to spend it on your face, which you and everyone else looks at everyday.

When you think about it we must all spend a couple of hundred quid a month on things like alcohol and crap (one decent night out could easily cost €100), which is no good for us at all and causes premature aging…you could get 3 jars a year for that! drink of La Prairie…its a toughie.

  • Evey says:

Thats ridiculous! I can see people buying this to “prove” they are not being affeted by the recession……

  • stylefreak says:

    But does it work……. 8O

  • LouLaBelles says:

Your better off getting a chemical peel or a face lift!

  • LouLaBelles says:

Kirstie, what size is it? How many mls for your money!

  • dbigt says:

if it works then i say its worth it !!

  • Townygirl says:

bonkers. completely bonkers. 1 jar of that is worth more than my car lol.

  • MontyC says:

I’d rather spend 860 quid on a Mulberry Bayswater and a fab outfit to wear with it.

  • Olaola says:

No cream is worth this money, in my opinion… I mean, it is scientifically proven that nothing will rewind time, isn’t it? ;) It won’t make you look 5 or 10 years younger so, and with all dermatologists always preeching that prevention is the key, you would have to start using this thing at 20-25 to stay looking young. And no-one would guarantee that it would keep you youthful for significantly longer than other creams…
As for this bit: “For the first time in skincare, Platinum Rare, uses a process called ‘Climate Activated Hydration’ to deliver moisture as your skin needs it” – well, I’m sure I can find something that will DELIVER MOISTURE for much less money than that! ;)

  • LouLaBelles says:

    50mls???????????
    No way!
This is just crazy, I was on their website and under this product it has
    “10 lucky people can win a ……..sample”
Win a sample! Its prob about .000005 of a ml.
Id rather a face lift. Or just use sunblock on your face 365 days a year to prevent ageing.

  • Mise says:

50ml for just €860, hell why not buy two? :)

  • Ems says:

crazy….and what is the scientific rationale for platinum being better for your skin than another (cheaper ) mineral like Zinc? I smell a total cod…

  • Even if I won the Euromillions I couldn’t bring myself to buy this. Worth more than my car too (and the insurance).

  • blondie says:

sorry but what a load of crap! a good fortnights hol could be had for that which will give u a much nicer glow

  • ShellBelle says:

Sorry now, but isn’t platinum slightly poisonous? Its one of the main ingredients in chemotherapy… I wouldn’t be bragging about having it in a face cream

  • Kirstie says:

no it’s actually anti-inflammatory and can be used as an antioxidant. The beauty brains have a good piece on this cream:
