Makeup bag takes the weekend off

beauty-its-not-just-a-job.jpg

When I got up on Saturday morning little did I know of the impending doom facing me over the weekend.

Dear readers, I had accidentally left my makeup bag in Work the day before. Not even my spare makeup bag, not the makeup bag with a few bits and pieces in it – but the whole shebang, the Main bag.

Now the Beaut.ie Crab has never crept into my bursting makeup bag, but if he had, his beady eyes on stalks would have spotted all my can’t live withouts – the Mac foundation, the Stila eyeshadows, the selection of mascaras, the Smashbox blushers and lippies… the Bobbi Brown gel liners… oh I can’t go on…

“Noooooooooooooooooooooo!” I wailed upon realising what had happened.

“Sure what’s the problem?” said the husband. “You’ve about ten tons of stuff hanging around the place. Use some of that.”

So bravely I tried to make the most of it. Lipstick and eyeshadow were grand – it was the base that got me unstuck. On Saturday a friend asked me was I ill, because I was the colour of the tomb with black circles under my eyes – hmmm so that’s why I don’t use that foundation any more I thought and threw it in the bin. And that concealer clearly doesn’t work either. On Sunday, mineral foundation caked around my nose in the most horrible way and the bronzer I used made me look as though a dirty protest were playing itself out on my cheeks. On Monday I was the embodiment of a satsuma with pink cheeks.

I wasn’t in Work til Tuesday. I rang up on Monday morning at 9.01am to check that the beloved bag was actually safe on my desk. A male colleague answered the phone. Feckity feck, I knew I was in for slagging so.

“Will you check if I left… my makeup bag on my desk” I said in a little voice

He returned to the phone sniggering “The bright green one with “Beauty is not just a job… it’s an adventure!” written on it, is it?”

I’ll never hear the end of this.

  • ams says:

    oh you poor creathur!!!!

I have built up a second collection which is left at the boyfs house – mind you some of the items in that aren’t up to scratch so I generally haul some of my faves around in the handbag too (that doesn’t take into account my separate handbag make up bag – no wonder it weighs a bloody ton!)

    Loving the bag, though :)

  • sweetie says:

Ah you poor thing!! I never had an accident like this, but probably only cause I have a small makeup bag in work for touch ups and never carry my Main Makeup Bag with me.

I have to ask you for a favour, and I think the rest of girls will back me up – oh, please, let the crab in your ‘Beauty is not a job’ bag! :D

Funny, I barely wear any make-up at the weekends (comes from lack of social life due to my travel addiction).

Thanks for all the support – it’s good to have people around me who truly understand the horror !

The bag is gorge isn’t it? Roisin Dubh got it for me – but she can’t remember where – she thinks maybe Avoca. You can’t buy them online so I’m seriously thinking of importing them – the whole range is fab

your bag reminds me of a magnet my friend sent me ‘she should have bought it when she saw it’ – its my motto now. too many times i’ve gone to buy something, waffled on it, and went back and it was gone! no more!

I hhaaaate when this happens. I’ve left mine at parents before and the horrible shock you get when you realise is, er, horrible

  • MontyC says:

It’s happened to us all at some point….

Serious case of ‘how the FECK am I going to manage?!’

  • dressjunkie says:

    Feelin’ your pain.
Not quite as disastrous but went out with my girlfriends a few weekends ago and totally forgot to put lipgloss for touch ups in my clutch.
Kinda pointless in me even having the clutch, its basically my lippie holder. I’d have given up my purse and stayed sober before my lippy :(
After the first drink, lipgloss was somewhere but no longer on my lips :( Spent the rest of the night feelin decidedly unglamorous!!

dressjunkie – line your lips with a similar shade first, and the even if the gloss goes, you’ve still got some colour. I’m a big fan of Bourjois’ Rouge Hi-Tech liptints for this exact thing.

oh i TOTALLY sympathise aphrodite- I’ve lost my entire makeup bag in college years ago- diaster and expensive- and I’ve left my bag overnight at work too- I don’t have a backup collection and carry all the makeup I wear in my handbag every day- terrible and heavy habit but can’t stop myself! I had to get up at the crack of down and get to work first before I met anyone- coz my desk is at the back of a room where everyone says hi to u first thing in the morning! I felt so NAKED without it lol

btw what is wrong with me- I dont own a single lipstick and I probably use 1 lipgloss in a year?! they all seem to make my lips dry/cracked!

  • Millie says:

jez i just have the one bag

  • Ruth says:

im so paranoid baout losing mine..i dont carry it round everday as i small compact for touchups, but if i go home for the weekend or something, i have to check my bag multiple times to make sure its there, even though i know its there as i just checked..its very OCD of me…its awful..

  • Satine says:

Oh i feel your pain this happened to me when i was in college in dub, when i was on the train to dub i remembereds i had left my make up bag at home… the whole week in college with crap make up… learned my lesson since then and have back up bags!

  • becks says:

    I really like the bag.

  • Marsh says:

OMG- I went away to work for a week, we were in a hotel up the country, and I LEFT MY MAKEUP AT HOME

    -both bags-

it would be less traumatic if I left home without my arms

So I know how you feel, that moment of realisation is chilling!

  • Hermione says:

Marsh, that sounds absolutely horrific! I don’t know how I’d manage :O
    *shudder*

  • Karen says:

you are too funny..at least you made the most of it, I would have had my husband run to the makeup counter with list in hand, infact, I have done that once or twice. My fear is when I’m flying, now that we have to check our cosmetics, that they will lose my bag, not my clothes but my makeup. Oh, the thought……

  • Pandora says:

Girls I had my bag snatched outside work a few years ago. I had just bought some new Bobbi Brown lippie and lipgloss as well. I had everything in the bag and the shops were closed. I had to bus it over to my sis (car keys in bag) and borrow some bits n bobs off her for work the next day. I didn’t even have a lipliner. Moral of the tale, never ever carry all your makeup round in your bag. Now I only bring the basics for touch ups. It took me two years to build up the collection again and lo and behold my bag was nicked from under my desk in work with the whole lot in it again. You’d think I’d have learned. I have now and leave all my reliables at home on my dressing table.
