Suffering from dry, tight or sensitised skin this winter? Yup, me too.
I’ve been testing Clinique’s new Comfort on Call allergy tested relief product for a couple of weeks now, and it has been exceeding all my expectations – believe me, I’m surprised at just how well my skin likes it. I was a firm fan of the brand’s famous yellow moisturiser as a 20-something, and since then, while I’ve liked products like Super Defense well enough, I just haven’t bonded long-term with one in particular.
This though, this is brilliant. A thick, balm-like texture, you have to work it up out of the pot, and warm it between your palms before applying it to the face. Suitable for even the most sensitive of skins, apparently, I found it incredibly nice to use. Hydrating really well, it leaves skin feeling smooth and comfortable and there’s no stickiness. That’s down to ingredients including citrus jabara fruit extract (a superfood, apparently), shea butter, collodial oatmeal and sodium hyaluronate, excellent at retaining water.
So of course, it must be causing Face Cheese, right? No – much to my amazement, it’s doing the sort of job I expect from a thick cream, but without the pore-clogging side effects.
Is there anything bad about it? Yep, some may find it a bit pricey, and the fact that there’s no SPF makes it a product I’m slapping on at night, but that is my only complaint. It’s not even a gripe – I could happily smoothe some SPF on after it should I be so inclined, but I thought in the interests of fairness I should try and identify something that wasn’t 100% A-OK.
You’ll find Comfort on Call at Clinique counters from February 1st, priced at €52.

would you rate it more than superskin kirstie?
Hmmm… Clinique products used to give me a rash (I used the soap, toner & yellow moisturiser) and I’ve avoided them since, but this sounds good, esp if it’s non-pore-clogging!
i hear you Tina, if it doese the job of being super moisturizing/rich without clogging anything, then i am interested.
hold on, whats “face cheese” though?
congestion of spots on your face juliedeb
Slightly off topic but still in the winter skin realms..I’ve been trying emu oil capsules to save my eczema and I’ve also noticed that fine lines on my forehead are less obvious. And I am a bit acne prone but the caps haven’t increased my blocked pores. I’d say that it would be perfect for a bit of a winter pick me up too. Only problem is unless you buy it in a chemist in Australia I think it’s only available online. Absolutely brilliant stuff though.
I will be soon looking for some night cream and this
sounds promising. Might give it a try. €52 is quiet expensive though. How much do you need to apply?
like the look of this … had another lovely clinique moisturiser in a similar jar last year and loved it .. can’t rem the name but might try this one .. its a bit pricier than my usual …
Lenuska – I’m sure you can find it cheaper online, on strawberrynet or something like that.
This stuff sounds very tempting indeed! I’m just looking for a new night cream that is rich yet not clogging, as I suspect my current one to cause spots (not a lot – but I’d rather have none!) so I think I will give this a try!
tina – it’s brand new so there won;t be deals on it yet I wouldn’t think.
M – this series of posts on winter skincare is all about great products that perform, so really, they’re ALL good. I’ll be writing more about this next week.
Coco, ive really dry skin too and have been using rose oil and argon oil under my night cream. Its making a huge difference to my skin too! Love it!
Kirstie, I’m so pleased you’ve given this a thumbs up. I ordered it on spec from Strawberrynet a couple of weeks ago and I’m dying to get my maulers on it to use it. The fact it hasn’t arrived yet probably means I’m going to be stung for custom charges, ah well, it’s still a bargain.
Gracie where do you buy the argon oil? I have heard such good things about it! Thanks
