I’m really liking Fake Bake Fair and to my shame I’ve been meaning to write about it for ages.
It was developed specially for us folk with fairer complexions in Northern Europe who feel that the original Fake Bake is a bit too, er, oraiste for us. Plus the mess of the original always put me off. This gradual tan is a cinch to put on, the colour develops evenly and depending on how much of a glow you want, you might be able to get away with one ‘coat’. You’ll see the results after one application. It’s totally worth investing in for those party dresses.
Here’s some guidelines to help decide if it will suit you:
- If you like St Tropez Medium: the Fake Bake Fair is definitely worth trying. It’s a deeper colour and lasts longer though – so maybe one or two applications will do you instead of three. But it won’t leave you tangoed or anything.
- If you’re really fair skinned: stick with the St Tropez Everyday Fair or Dove.
- If you’re EVEN fairer (the colour of milk): stay with No7 Light

am going to a partay this evening and was considering going … tan-less !!
what you lot think about pale skin .. it seems to be really “in” … was going to lash on nice glossy body lotion .. maybe some of the benefit bathina in a few choice places and off i go ….
will i look horrific in the photos and totally regret it ??
I never wear any form of tan during the winter and in the summer only a little bit of dove on nights I’m going out. But I’m really white.
I was delighted to see the “fake tan is out” article in the Sunday Times style section the other week.
That being said, I’m getting married in May and I don’t think I’ll stay totally white for it, I’ll have to put something on, so that the photos don’t all come out funny..
Ooo sounds inneresting….how much will this set us back Aphrodite??
Elie – it’s not the cheapest – I seem to remember it being about €35 – but I’m not sure – will check and come back!
Thanks Aphrodite! Also if you knew of any stockists that’d be great too!
ooo.. i must say, i prefer the colour of the original fake bake rather than st tropez, but it takes hours to dry!!
i switched to the ST whipped bronze that dries in minutes but this is v tempting..
Yes indeed I like the sound of this! I get very lazy about the tan application in winter.
By the way I really like the St Tropez face stuff we got in the brunch goodie bags! I was scared by the words ‘Dark Intense’ on the pack but it goes on lovely, not mucky like the lotion or mousse. Mixed with a little moisturiser at night gives a lovely glow in the morning.
TBH, I like a little bit of fake tan, hides a multitude! Usually only go with one coat though so I’m not tangoed. I’m using the loreal at the mo, the gel in the clear bottle. It’s great, dries quickly and easy to apply. It smells though, but don’t they all – and nothing a shower won’t get rid of!
Hi ladies does any one know the name of the instant tan been advertised on ireland am yesterday morning sounds fantastic. its supposed to come up straight away and lasts up to a week. any help would do girls. thanks
hockeystick – I think whatever you want is absolutely fine, some people love a bit of tan – some prefer to be pale and pretty and either looks great. I agree with Style though – that dark tan is so out
No idea foxy sorry. I think this sounds fab…looking back at my 21st photos I look a wee bit tangoed I think.
This sounds perfect for a black tie I have just after Christmas – means no risks of rain ruining the tan too! (I’m normally a Rimmel girl!)
I love Fake Bake, although just bought 2 bottles of St Tropez that were on special so they will keep me going for a while.
I have to have some sort of tan on my arms when going out, the freckles and white arm just looks dreadful. The tan just gives a nice hint of colour, plus i always feel thinner when i tan! hehe!
Foxy-the name of the tan is Vita Liberata…
It sounded great on Ireland am- Ive never tried it but would definitely b tempted! They said it didnt smell too which would b a huge bonus…
The ROC body lotion with a bit of fake tan ( about €13.95) is great if you are fair ( and have never tanned!)…it just takes the dead fish light purplegrey look off you. got it free and loved it!
Nooooooooo!!!!!
Nothing wrong with pale skin. Or any other naked human skin, in all its glorious rainbow of hues.
If you like colour, wear some tights. There are fabulous ones out there. Glittery silver, leopard-print, saucy lace, rainbow stripes.
I know I’ll sound like a right old lady, but also tights = if you like not being frozen, goosepimply, and blue. Never very flattering, let alone healthy. Not known for increasing pulling power. Except with the unappealing and/or drunk and/or those into rapid close encounters in loos and back alleys, unencumbered by leg- and crotch-coverings. Not very Beaut.ie … surely …
^ I’ve got to agree with you Gingerrama. Fake tan won’t keep you warm! Tights and a cardigan will
I think tans, fake or real look a bit silly on most Irish women to be honest. Sticking with your natural colour (or lack of colour) looks best 99% of the time.
I also love how most Irish people are horrified by the thought of darker coloured women bleaching their skin to look whiter, but think nothing of smearing chemicals all over their own skin to look darker. It really makes no sense.
I’ve recently moved to Dublin. Can anyone recommend somewhere in Dublin city to get a fake bake spray tan?
Brown Cow in Sanyford specialise in Fake Bake products and they do an awesome FB sray tan!
HI Lucy,
Thanks for that
