“Oh I love your mascara” said the girl in the newsagent when I was in buying this weeks Grazia.
“It’s the new Bourjois one” I said
“Liner Effect?”
“That’s it”.
Ah in such little moments one meets a kindred spirit. She went to get the next customer their Marlboro Lights and I went off, remembering when I worked in a newsagents and used to read every single magazine in the place every week. Perhaps that’s where the encyclopedic knowledge of cosmetics started. Maybe this girl was the same?
I think it’s perfect for nights out – but also perfect for days if you like your eyes to stand out. At €12, this mascara really is blacker than black and uses a mad little comb. Like a double sided Rimmel comb it lifts your lashes from the base and make them look really full and long. So far so good. But… by the end of a normal day it had slid under my eyes. Not even flaked, just black smudges. And there was no frantic dancing etc involved.
So I give it thumbs up for creating striking black lashes. Sadly, I give it thumbs down for lastability. Neutral thumbs so.

This mascara has the exact same brush as Oriflame WonderLash, which was released at the beginning of the year!
I nearly purchased it yesterday – but I am having a mad passionate love affair with my wonderful brilliant and non-smudge, stay all day new No. 7 Extreme Length mascara and it’s too early in our relationship to be messing around with another brush.
The only mascara I have used that is better was the Olay one they had out about 5 years ago that went off the market. Boo Urns!

Aphordite, neutral thumbs from me too, but think i am not well versed in the art of strange wand weilding so may have to work on it, kept poking the edge of my eyelid where the lashes come out, ow!

I might try the purple one I was going to get the badgal lash in plum but this is a bit cheaper….always a bonus!
talking about sliding mascaras, has anyone every tried putting a sealer on top of their mascara?? i was going to get the benefit one, apparently it’s multi-purpose and you can use it for lips too… but would it ruin the effect of the mascara i wonder??
Sealer on mascara definitely works… the clarins one is great – it acts as a waterproof coat for any mascara! She Laq by Benefit is good but can be quite fiddly to put on as the liquid is in a bottle, whereas the Clarins comes as a mascara tube and can be done in seconds!
Tried Lottie’s No7 suggestion. Very good I like it a lot. It looks really great. Better when you apply 3/4 coats.
I’ve just bought this and I’m having trouble making a liner effect. I’m not sure if I’m being dumb or if there’s some special knack…
I am soooo disappointed with this Bourjois Liner Effect mascara that I had to find a website with reviews so that I could chip in my 2 penn’orth.
This is the worst mascara for clumping and application problems. There is no “liner effect” with either the short or long bristles and, however carefully I wipe the excess off this product, it clumps as no other mascara I have ever tried. Believe me, if I thought that Bourjois would take notice, I would write to them and complain that the product does not do what it says on the tin.

Im the same as MaryJo. I am so annoyed with it, if i didnt put my point across i would be annoyed with myslef. The liner effect is disatrous, if you do get anything on the eyelid it is uneven and looks like you just havent washed the access off! Next the brush, what a stupid shape. If you are doing the tops of your eyelashes you have to be sooooo careful otherwise the longer bristles stab you in the eye. Its so painful. Worthless and cant belive i spent £12 on this!!
I too am very dissapointed by this mascara, it is the worst one I have ever used.
I also second the fact that the brush is dangerous and the longer bristles can really hurt your eye. I am not keen on these new plastic brushes as they are sharp and they cause clumps.
Too much mascara comes out on the brush and results in excess mascara which leads to clumping and smudging.
No7 do excellent mascaras and i won’t be falling for advertisement again! There is no liner effect at all! Just spider leg affect!
I’m rather pleased to know that I’m not the only one who feels ‘duped’ by the ads for this mascara. It’s dangerous to apply, clumpy, and smudges beyond belief. Now, anyone know how we get these comments to Bourjois? Who knows, they may even take notice!

I just bought this liner the other day and although it does make for phenomenally huge lashes (clumpy though), it is nearly impossible to clean off. I shouldn’t have to think about how much scrubbing I want to do later when i’m applying makeup in the morning.
I only bought it because I can’t seem to find Bourjois’ Yes to Volume No To Clumps, which is brilliant. Has it gone off the market or something? It’s still on the official website.
I have this mascara and it is amazing. It gives a real liner effect and doesn’t clump up like many mascara’s I have tried before. The mascara doesn’t run. Yes I have stabbed myself in the eye a couple of times, but that happens with all mascaras. I give this a Biiiig thumbs up =]
I looooove this mascara!!! It makes my lashes become reaaaaaaaaaally long. two layers and it is a bit too dramatic
one layer is all u need for perfect long lashes.. i love it!!
hi I give this a thumbs up for the result i get so many compliments on my eyes i have big brown eyes but my lashes are very thick and only quite long, but they’re brown so not obvious. i tried this in black and it made my eyes pop. i’ve been using this since christmas 2008 (my friend gave it to me as a secret santa gift
). I do get the black smudges under the eyes, but I bought she laq from benefit (overpriced, but it works) and it really helps to keep the lashes in place all day. so yeah neutral thumbs i guess. also if you do choose to buy she laq wiv this remember when applying dip the brush that comes wiv it in the formula , and shake off the excess into the bottle before applying it over your mascara, otherwise it gets into your eyes which is paiiiiiiiiinful! x
Ohh Dear, People saying this Mascara Clumps, and that it is rubbish? Are we talking about the Same Mascara?! I lost it Yesterday and my Moms going into town today to get me a new one now, and I was just printing off a picture for her and found these reviews! I looked for 2 Hours to try and find it and had a huge tantrum because I loved it so much! My mom even got so stressed out from me she offered to by me a new one! I think it must depend on your own lashes. Seeing as its the only mascara that makes my lashes volumised. I’ve always had really long lashes, but all my mascaras just make them longer, with no volume. I admit, it hardly gives a liner effect, but im not bothered seeing as it’s outweighed by its amazing quality. A really big Thumbs Up! It does smudge a bit, but im not complaining.

i tik clumps only come when you put too much in one
place and it depends on your actual eyelashes as well!

I dont think it gives the liner effect though.
It does make my lashes super long however!
I think the liner effect refers to the overall look it gives your lashes. it’s not meant to go on your eyelid and act as eyeliner, but the intense black mixed with the length and curl makes it look like your wearing liner from a distance.

I LOVE this mascara. i have it in black. You should know that it does take a while to dry, so i would apply before you put other make up on as its hard to get off once smudged. If you leave it on your eyes for ten minutes it should be bone dry. It stays on ALLL day and it makes my lashes seem really long and volumised, i will not be changing mascara anytime soon
I only got this mascara a few weeks ago (always the last to pick up a trend, me!) and while I haven’t tried their tip (on the sticker) for the actual liner effect, it is the best mascara I’ve had grip-wise. Love the way it grips my lashes, feels like it’s earning its keep, that the mascara is actually coating the lashes as opposed to a half-hearted effort, if y’know what I mean [mrgreen]
