Fancy a lump of plastic to simply snap on over your existing ugly teeth?
Course you do! Just like say, clip on hair extensions, or stick on nails, you can get the look with these click into place gnashers. The plastic moulds that form a Snap-on Smile are modeled on the most admired celebrity smiles. Making it tres handy to select a mouthful of teeth a la Halle or Gwyneth for example.
A couple of drawbacks. Unlike veneers these are strictly temporary and kind of necessary teeth tasks (like eh, eating) are nigh on impossible with them in. They adhere to the teeth without any adhesive – which might greatly increase the possibility of them dropping out into your drink I’d say. And if you did pull someone – you’d have to take off your teeth before any kissing could occur. And after that no kissing would probably occur.
Costing between US$1000 and $3000, they’re marketed as a substitute for veneers for the cash strapped.
And brain cell strapped too I’d say.
I haven’t heard that these are available in Ireland. The words cold day and hell spring to mind. Maybe I’m wrong – tell me what you think!

Oh jebus, the “before” pics are gross!
While I can understand the aesthetic appeal of those snap on gnashers, those people obviously need serious dental work done!
Oh. Holy. Jesus.
ah come on now! thats mental!!!! woudl anyone do it i wonder shur one day ud have nice teeth and the next not so nice! me thinks the oul painful and and longer process of braces mite b the best option!
If I had teeth like the before pics and it was all I could afford …..YEAH!
Hmm, if they are for the cash strapped and cost up to 3 grand, how much do veneers cost?? I’ve been considering them instead of the teeth whitening what with all the pain the whitening can cause, but how much are veneers??
why?
i have nothing else to say lol
Pink atomic got veneers – cant remember how much they cost. i thinkaround 1k for one, i could have it all wrong tho! but i do remember thinking my treatment for braces worked out cheaper and was a long term solution
I think veneers are a few hundred PER TOOTH!
Yea i’ve seen it priced up to €600 per tooth…
I had that ‘Beyond White Spa’ whitening treatment done and it was rubbish. It was maybe one shade lighter and didn’t last the week!
Is it veneers that give you that Tom Cruise look? I wouldn’t mind shelling out if it doesn’t hurt and I have a mega watt smile afterwards. Reckon I need about 6-8 of them so that wouldn’t be much more than braces.
Pink – they file down your teeth to nubbins and apply the veneers, which are porcelain, but the problem is, they need replacing every few years, so it could get v expensive indeed
pink my braces are workin out at 2k way cheaper than veneers and a lifetime job, wont have to be replaced
has anyone been over to europe to get dental work done?
Seriously considering it as it way cheeper over there!
Just worried about the reputations of the dentists!
c my uncle has been to poland, he is due back again end of august. no complaints from him so far
C, My friend’s girlfriend is Spanish, but living in Ireland for about 10 years now. Recently she was quoted €750 for a root canal treatment in Dublin. She’s going home on holidays in September and is going to get it done while she’s there. The price in Spain? €120. I think that says it all.
Also an Estonian friend of mine went to an upmarket expensive dentist last time she was home on holiday. A filling cost her €13. A basic dentist would have cost about €5, but she decided she could afford to splash out!
Its crazy the massive difference in prices!
Definately worth lookin into!
When growing my nails out I used to wear stick ons. I remember how mortified I was as they dropped off on a good night out. I can only imagine what the reaction would be if my teeth popped out.
I remember an episode of Fresh Prince (showing my age) where he got trapped in a room with a beautifual date. By the end when they were rescued, the date had removed her clip in hair, false nails, fake lashes, heels, chicken fillets, etc. They could have added teeth to the list
A lot of people I know that had braces as teenagers have found their teeth going back to their original shape in the last few years. I couldn’t wear braces anyway. Filing down of teeth sounds painful…maybe I’ll just stick with the ones I have and spend the money on shoes!!
Shane Mcgowan…take note.
Said the S word and in moderation. I pretty much said that on second thoughts I’d ratehr spend the money on chews. Sure with the fabulous chews I could buy everyone will be looking at my feet and not notice my teeth.
Supposedly according to my dentist, they last ten years and then they need replacing, had them priced a few times alright but never had it done, something tells me they would be supersensitive after, i would need four at the front, you can limit the amount of filing done but the veneer has to adhere to the tooth so filing is a must, Also you can claim back some of it from the revenue, depending on what tax you pay as far as i know its a med two form, also same goes for braces and root canal, just my tuppence. No thanks to these though, imagine the embarassment if they fell out on date!
Ye I think Braces would be better. I mean if you can save for 3000 why can;t you save an extra bit for the braces which are long term.
Oh I didn’t know veneers had to be replaced. Eeek! I think Hilary Duff’s veneers cost 40,000 dollars – imagine having to do that every couple of years!
Braces are a long term investment; and if it’s the yellow teeth that are a worry, that may be – in some folks – because of very solid thick enamel. I have this – and I’d never strip it away and replace good enamel with temporary porcelain. Ever. Seems like a new definition of “stupid.” And replacing it every few years indeed! This is craziness. I love my yellow teeth, cos I know they’re that colour for all the right reasons: cos they’re good, solid, and fairly healthy teeth.
Poor old Shane, though. Probably could do with a full head transplant.
And as for foreign dentists – I grew up in Belgium and had most of my dentistry done there, to a higher standard than any other country I’ve lived in, and way better than here in Ireland or in the UK. And by nicer, gentler people. Go Belgian dentists!!! (Mind you, when in the USA I wasn’t going to a fancy dentist as couldn’t afford it, even on insurance.)
Yeah but Dobby venenrs are instant. Braces aren’t for everyone. I could not wear braces. Fair play if you can wear them as an adult but I would have to barricade myself in the house for the year and a half or whatever it is!
But PinkPanther – you can get those really nice braces that are more or less invisible – all the joining bits are see-through, it’s more plastic than metal – so no longer condemned to the Bond villain tramtracks…
Sympathy, though, I know the feeling, condemned to ugliness/home. I suffered the metal ones. Hated it then, but I guess it pays off in the long run. Seriously, the braces are a time-investment as much as a financial one (and cheaper than veneers and their upkeep), and alas only one set of adult teeth for life.
I want to be a shark in my next existence.
Ginger, in fairnes I haven’t seen the new fangled ones – I’m picturing the old stylee metal ones people had in school, akin to the ones Willy Wonka had as a child in the Tim Burton adaptation! Braces would do me no good reagardless. I have straight teeth, I just have a few gaps and pointy ones I’d like sorted out. I’m off work at the moment and just fantasising about different things I could get done. I ws imagining a Hilary Duff style smile to be honest but for 40 grand I’ll stick with the gaps and points!!
Pink i mite yet have to get braces, was talkin about it on blather yesterday. at the moment im stil hopeful the retainer will do the job, i know ill be self concious of them at the start but i think its worth it i wanta nice smile
id never look at anyone with braces and think they look awful. as mr poppins said to me, it wont change how i look ill still look the same.
Ah yeah fair play to you Poppins, like I said I was imagining the old style big metal train tracks. I’d say you an barely notice the new ones. And you’ll have a lovely smile for years afterwards.
pink ill prob go wit the normal metal looking ones. i think the clear ones are more exp. am gettin married next year and ive always wanted a perfect smile, so feck it. so far the retainer has made a difference even tho i didnt think so. had a look at pics she took on my first visit and there is a big dif so i hope it continues!
My sister’s the classic – you should see the x-rays of her mouth before she had braces, it looked like someone had just smacked her in the face! teeth all over!! and now they’re lovely. Also, if your teeth are all over, there’s all the issues of some teeth pushing others around (can end up with cracks, absesses, let alone rotting and so on). Plus what happens when wisdom teeth come along… but that’s a whole other horror story for another day.
Meanwhile: what’s the most money you’d spend on teeth to make them gorgeous (whatever your definiton of that is), for the rest of your life? And how often are people going to the dentist?
Between this and a merkin and some hair extensions and some false toenails and some false fingernails . . . ye wouldn’t know what was real and was actually you ! But in all fairness isn’t all make-up about your insecurities ? Just like these snap on teeth ? Similar to stick-on eyelashes or coloured contact lenses
Bee I remember that fresh prince episode as well!!
I hate when there’s a scary picture at the top of the blog!
i keep forgettin it’s gonna come up. eugh
I have a veneer!! not my choice though- its my very front tooth which is dead (due to dental work gone wrong with i was about 14)-i had braces for a couple of yrs after so u didnt notice the grey dead front tooth until i had the braces off- then I got my veneer- first one lasted a couple of yrs and fell out in a meeting a week before hols- had to get second one done ASAP and was good but not as good as first! and THAT fell out last year bout 2 weeks into my new job whilst eatin a sanger at my desk! it was put back on COMPLETELY CROOKED and my teeth now look like they did before I had braces for 6 years (VERY sore point!!) dentist told me it wud be temporary, glued it with amazing superglue etc all wrong angle etc, then tells me its permanent- I curse the B**** everyday still!
Wouldnt recommend unless necessary in my case – eachtime I got a new veneer I had to shave more tooth off- now I’ve barely got a stub left (gross I know) and I don’t know if I’ll be able to have another veneer which this one EVENTUALLY falls off! (I’m hoping yes!)
Another major downfall for me is I can’t whiten my teeth as the veneer won’t match them if they do lighten etc
Rant over now….
I had a good cackle over that Fresh Prince scene, Bee, Boozy Floozy thanks for the reminder – LOL here!
So I guess we’re already in the Bionic Age?
Anyone here who’s NOT cyber in some way? I admit to work on teeth – tho’ no veneers – and a plastic bit in knee. So long as you don’t count nail-varnish and near-permanent mascara – i.e. little time between one lot off and another lot on, and I’m never seen without it, except by the Best Beloved – that’s it.
I’d be willing to spend 10 grand if I had a perfect smile that didn’t requie any further work. And it would have to be pain free and I’d have to be able to eat what I want – I’m not slicing up apples or giving up toffees! So yeah, it’s never going to happen so I may put the money to another use.
M did you get that done in dublin, sounds horrific? just wondering.
M – OMG. I have what is know as a sticky crown where I lost a tooth that went dead. There is a crown glued onto the tooth beside the gap. I was suitable for an implant which would have cost well over €5k (but I’m afraid of being knocked out) so I was lucky to have this €1.5K option as well.
To have a sticky crown the tooth you are sticking it to must have a strong root.
Well I spent almost 5K last year with root canals and otehr stuff. Dentist are so expensive here.
Do veneers stain if you drink coffee and wine? A friend of mine in the uk just got veneers and was very sensitive before they fitted the permanent veneers but they look really well now..
Awk Yuck:O They look as if they’re forcing the teeth together..Eugh
I went to a Dental Surgeon up North, he was amazing, and my teeth are perfect now, and i saved about 5000 by going up North, he’s outside belfast, i got the train up from Dublin (3 times in all)and his driver collected me in a lovely bmw. You didn’t feel like you were being ripped off, and they were very professional and i was so nervous too, they were grrreat and they do all the prsi stuff. He told me they have people up from Cork, Dublin, Laois, everywhere. And as well as the teeth, there was a bit of shopping done too, got a fab outfit for a friends wedding. it was O3 dental studio, i think they have a website too now all i need is a new boyfriend to sink my teeth into!!
:O Wow I really really want them … does anyone know if you can get them in Ireland ??
Snap on Smile is the biggest scam ever. You can get better stuff at a Halloween store.
