My Current Heroes

We all have must-have products, the things we simply cannot be without. I have lots of them that are old faithfuls, but recently, I’ve added two new products to the list.

laura mercier laura mercier

Product Number 1 is Laura Mercier’s fab new Mineral Finishing Powder. It’s a brilliant completely translucent powder that you buff on over your liquid / cream foundation to set it, just as you would your regular loose powder. But that’s where the similarities end. This stuff is SUPERDUPER. You do need a kabuki brush to buff it on properly, but it’s worth it – the finish you get is super-smooth, slightly sheeny and above all, flawless looking. Both are around the €40ish mark, but they are so worth it.

origins

Product Number 2 is an oldie, Origins Ginger Essence. I seriously cannot get enough of this stuff – YUM YUM! Along with Ginger there’s Bergamot, Lemon and Lime, and oh lawdy lawd, it’s smellalicious. I’m sprayin’ it all over my good self these days. Buy yourself some of this delicious treat – 50ml is round and about €38.

  • Charchar says:

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a kabuki brush and a normal one? and what they’re used for? I’ve heard them mentioned a couple of times and i haven’t a clue what thay are..!

  • Aphrodite says:

mmmm new must haves… the new Vichy moisturiser

  • Atomic_Blonde says:

That powder sounds good! Im using No.7 Translucent at the moment which is good too for the price :)

Charchar a kabuki brush is a little small “stubby” brush…it has a lot more hair than a normal powder brush and its used for “buffing” powder onto the skin.

  • Charchar says:

Thanks AB, So its basically like the buffer brush from MAC.. I thought there were special bristles or something in it

  • Atomic_Blonde says:

Nope the bristles are the same, they are just more dense :)

How much mineral foundation shoulf you put on? I’m trying the L’Oreal one, and the first day I think I was too light-handed, and the second (today) i think i was a little heavy-handed. I’m not normally a powder user, so how much (approx) should be on the brush?

  • Louise says:

Hi Helen , I’ve been using the Bare Escentuals mineral foundation for the last number of months now and you apply it gradually as a little goes a long way, you might just take a day or two to get the hang of it.I would not go back to liquid foundations after using minerals.

  • Em says:

I’ve been using Bare Escentuals for 4/5 months now and wouldn;t go back to liquid foundations either. The foundation and concealer are fab but my fave is the Mineral Veil (which sounds v.similar to the Laura Mercier Mineral Finishing Powder), it’s feather light and really is the finishing touch that makes my skin look flawless yet natural. It’s so quicl and easy to apply that I can even do it without bein in front of a mirror.

  • Louise says:

Hi Em ,have you tried the feather light mineral veil yet?
If you haven,t you should get it, its even lighter than the original if thats possible.I know I’m totally hooked on BE was in new york during the summer and stocked up in Sephora on everything as I was being robbed paying sterling prices.Have yet to find a stockist here?

  • Em says:

I haven’t tried that, I’m still using the original mineral veil and have loads left.

My brother came back from Florida a few weeks ago and bought me some Bare Escentuals stuff back. Thanks to the exchange rate it was almost half price. I just wish I’d asked him to bring more back.

I usually buy from QVC but think they are such a rip off especially when you compare to the US prices.

  • Louise says:

You should try the harley medical group website, have bought from then aswell as QVC, with HMG you don’t have to keep buying the brush and it arrives in 2-3 days.the new veil gives a shimmer to the skin like one the radiance powders.

  • Louise says:

Em have heard that Sephora have a online shop on Amazon, don’t know how long it takes to arrive as have never got anything from there site.Sephora don’t ship directly from their site.I’m stocked up for a couple of months at least even bought the rare minerals night time treatment which is not available in the UK yet. Hubby had a major moaning session everytime went by Sephora had to buy more BE.

  • Ciwa says:

Anytime I use powder, my skin always looks terribly dry and often makes my foundation patchy. I use it over Lancome Photogenic.. Maybe I’m using too much? Wrong powder?(Lancome Absolue Skin Smoothing) Any suggestions? Cos I do need something to eliminate T-Zone shine
