Rachel asked, “I’m wondering do people use loads of different bits of skincare ranges according to what they like or do they use all the one range? I have always used an entire range as far back as I can remember even when I was 16 and using Simple”
It’s an interesting question actually and I think a lot of people are confused about it. In general, we’re told that products in a range are designed to work in harmony with each other, and so you should only use them together. But that doesn’t always take into account the huge variations that can exist with people - we don’t all happily fall into camps of normal skin, normal to dry, oily, and so on. So an entire range might not suit you, or there may be bits in it (like a toner) that you just don’t want to use.
I’ve asked the pros about this before and the general concensus is that if it’s a supermarket brand or something fairly cheap, then mixing and matching is absolutely grand. But if you’re using skincare with active ingredients like retinol or glycolics, such as the umpteen Dr brands on the market, then you should stick to the products in the range because they really, absolutely are designed to work together, and missing out steps or products may impact on the results you get.
So, if you want to mix your Nivea with your Simple - do! But maybe leave Dr Murad to do his work all on his own.

In Regards to spfs in the Sun, Always wear spf EVERY DAY i cannot stress this enough even if its in your make-up. In the cheaper pharmacy and department store brands there may be more chemicals in the product but if you go with a salon or higher quality brand there is no chemicals in these e.g Dermalogica solar range, Elemis, etc the higher the factor the better, sun does the worst damage to your skin all round and it should be worn hail rain or snow cause these conditions are just as bad xxxxxxxxx
SO am thinking then, Normaderm kit, haven’t decided on a cleanser yet, la roche possy toleriane moisturiser for day, and then maybe Decleor balm for night or else the ylang ylang oil and the mattifying skin cream. Cheers girls
Great post!
Tor206. Isn’t Elemis gorgeous, expensive, but so lovely. I know you said you were getting it into the salon ages ago. Is there one facial of theirs you’d recommend over the others?
Do you use any of their toners? I got a small size of the Marine Cream in a gift and I thought it was one of the nicest face creams I’ve ever used.
i think the whole buying the range thing is just a way of getting you to spend more money on their products. I’m quite lucky in that I have good skin but obviously still have to take care of it. I use clinique foundation and was convinced to try the step 1,2,3 skin routine. Step 2, the toner is great and now a staple in my routine but the cleansing soap just left my skin feeling horribly tight and the moisturiser was just plain rubbish, way too gloopy and greasy. So ditched those and now just use olay cleanser and moisturiser. I’ve tried expensive stuff but honestly can’t see the difference plus can’t afford them!!
Hi girls - was sick for the last week
so recovered at home with the parents and they don’t have broadband!
My routine is:
Morning:
Clarins gel cleanser in the shower
Origins - never a dull moment face scrub -totally yummy!
Clarins moisturiser
Creme de la mer eye cream
Lunchtime: (I’ve lots of stuff to use up!)
Clarins beauty flash balm
Clarins eye contour cream
Night-time:
Lancome Galant confort cleanser and moisturiser.
Clarins face oil (great moisturiser for nighttime)
Creme de la mer eye cream
I use the Lancome comfort mask (peach colour tube) ans the moisturising mask (blue tube) alternatively once a week too!
Afternoon girlies! Had the same thoughts a while ago after having the Yon-ka facial but already owning salon sized Dermalogica Cleanser! So use Dermalogica Cleanser &Toner and then Yon-ka moisrurisers & peels etc. So far, so-so… think I’m missing my daily microfoliant…
Can somone please help me? I have just moved to Dublin from London (south side Dublin) - I have been having my nails done in London by a Vietnamese salon - and they always use nail filing machines to do the filing - I have Acrylics done.
I am looking for the same service here - one where I can just ‘turn up’ with no appointment, and they do Acrylic fills etc..I always have the natural look ‘American’finsh.. - does this exist in Dublin yet????
Please - it is now nearly 3 weeks and I’m desperate!!
Thanks

MGTK - ask in blather tomorrow, one of the gals who regularly comments will know
To MGTK,
Hi, I just saw your post, you were looking for a Vietnamese Nail salon who use a filing machine,. I know one in Dorset Street, the only one in Dublin I think, they are Vietnamese too and they are very good with Acrylic and Gel nail. I think they do American systems. I had my Acrylics done in 45 mins with free designs. Their no. is 087 6665025.

hi i mix brands all the time
now that im buying more expensive brands that seem to contain alot higher potent ingredients im more scared of the long term effect of mixing chemicals of different brands together.. ie Clinique with Lancome with Payot say? Especially if you use a serum of one and a cream say of another… Long term using these mixes will it cause your skin to age cos you are using high mixes of things?? bad reactions that you dont see notice until too late..
please help!!
