No, sadly I haven’t come across a spot-on doppelgänger for Particuliere, but I think I’ve found one for Nouvelle Vague, which is the turquoise shade in the SS10 line-up and will set you back €21 if you fancy adding it to your collection.
Its (almost) twin is from Accessorize’s new nail varnish range, is called Lagoon, and is priced at a more pocket-friendly €7. Lagoon is a less in-yer-face turquoise than most other brands offer, which puts it close to the almost pastel Nouvelle Vague. The only thing is it’s shimmer-free, but the iridescence that’s so evident in the Nouvelle Vague bottle all but disappears on the nail so that’s really no biggie.
What is a biggie is the mark-up on these Accessorize nail varnishes here. It damn near broke my heart when I noticed it. Oh sure, €7 is cheap as chips in comparison to Nouvelle Vague, but Accessorize nail varnishes are £4 in the UK. Using Kirstie’s 25% tolerance threshold to allow for VAT differences and things like higher insurance/staff/rent costs, that means they should really be about €5 here.
Exchange rate fail, lads …

Oh I have to have it! Imagine ‘Raibowing’ it! Sparkly!!
Gorgeous. Doesn’t Barry M do a similar shade, though? This one: http://www.barrym.com/uploads/product_type_images/117.jpeg
Aifs – what is the story, I come on here to avoid all the rainbowing talk of the blather and you are at it again?! Is there now escape??? hehehe
Bought a similar dupe from Boots 17. It is fab. Might pop that on later.
now = no escape
Woops! Sorry daiseeboo! You’ll be in the sparkly club very soon! Promise!
Tsk!
And after I knocked down all those old ladies running up to BT to grab a bottle in case, HEAVEN FORBID, it may sell out and no one, no where would ever have a similar nail polish EVER AGAIN….
*sigh*
what is this rainbow thing? i must know! i don’t think exchange rate too bad on this because the exchange rate not as good as at xmas and getting worse
beautiful colour tho!
katie – it’s Gosh rainbow. http://beaut.ie/blog/?p=26908 fabulous!
Used to work for Monsoon and the price difference is massive! Used to have to mark on a few euro based on the price sheets we were given and always blacken out the original.
For information- if you buy from accessorize and monsoon online, you pay in sterling and you can return your garment, etc to any store, really handy. You can save lots of money that way!
i read that the other day and forgot all about it! haha! must have a look in awear, never made it in last weekend. thanks Aifs!
Yeah Monsoon/Accessorize are one of the biggest exchange rate culprits. The only time I set foot in there as a consequence is when they have 70% off. Even when desperately hunting wedding outfits, I won’t go in there.
Gosh do a purple nail polish thats a lot like Chanel Paradoxal. I got it a while ago so I’m not sure if they still make it, but its really nice.
Btw the gosh nail polish is called Mystery Night.
mark up is ridiculous, I avoid Monsoon as I don’t think the quality matches the price! Nice colour though will seek out the cheaper alternatives, thanks Rachel
Bought a nail varnish in Urban Outfitters a couple of weeks ago and it seems very like Particuliere, although I haven’t seen particuliere in the flesh so it’s hard to know!
This is a great blog article for Particulier dupes that I came across – http://perfumesmellinthings.blogspot.com/2009/04/weekend-beauty-nail-polish-picking.html
Dunno how many of them you can get in Ireland though…
I have and infact wearing today Essie Mint Candy Apple. Funny Grazia magazine this week said this was a dupe for the Chanel.
