We’re talking all the time at the moment about fake tanning and getting skin ready for summer. Exfoliation is a big part of that – sloughing that dead winter skin off will reveal fresh, smooth skin, improve circulation and give you a good base for fake tan too.
If you don’t fancy spending shekels on an exfoliator, then no need, because you can make your own at home so easily. We’ve blogged before about salt scrubs but you need to be careful with them, especially if you’ve any history of heart or circulatory problems – too much salt is a v bad idea for some people. And even though you may only be rubbing it on for a short while, it can and will be absorbed. They can also cause problems for those of you with very dry skins too.
So what’s the alternative? Our old mucker sugar, that’s what. Sugar makes for fantastic scrubs – just make sure you’re not raiding the caster sugar bag, as you do need to use good quality cane or brown sugar.
Brown Sugar Body Scrub
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup of honey
- 3 Tablespoons of lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons of fresh ginger
Method
- Place the sugar, honey and lemon juice into a bowl
- Grate the fresh ginger and add it to the mixture
- Mix it all up and run to the shower!
- Apply generous handfuls all over and give a good old scrub while you’re doing it.
- Leave it on for a couple of minutes and wash off.
Viola! Sweetly scented, gorgeously soft skin!
