My first stab at an accent nail met with a firm thumbs down from you lot, but undeterred (and bored), I thought I’d give it another whirl. Nothing if not persistent, me.
The ill-applied shades are Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Jo’mina, €15, – a newbie from the Body Electrics collection, and the accent is Rimmel’s new 60 Seconds in Grey Matter, €5.23.
Calling upon himself to do the photography honours (I haven’t yet trained self to take photos with my feet) he helpfully told me that I must have accidentally painted one nail on each hand the wrong colour. “No, no,” I said, “they’re meant to be like that.”
Shaking his head, he took the photo and then silently handed back the camera before going back to playing football on his Xbox360.
Guess I can work out what he thinks of it, so.
What about you? Is this a more successful attempt or is the accent nail just stupeh now altogether?
A close-up shot and the bottles are after the cut.

I am so crap at painting my nails it’s not funny. I also really should invest in a tidy-up brush, but *whine*, that would be hassle.

just realised this doesn’t make much sense, the pic I was using first was of both my hands, but it was crap (sorry himself!) so I retook it myself. Using my own hand. Eh. Anyway, he still hated it.
I like the two colours but think I prefer the previous one, soz.
I wasn’t too keen on the first accent nail but I do like this one!
Hmmm… Not sure but I think I may be liking this accent nail craic…
Definitley loving that purple though! *heart*
this was the (crap) pic:
Ah lads, where has this trend sprung from at all??
I just don’t get it!
Really liking the Illamasqua shade, however…
I’m not sure about the accent nail but I love the Illamasqua colour!
Love the colours but think the accent nail is a bit of a silly idea! Reminds me of my cousin painting every second nail silver then gold as a kid!
I love the Illamasqua, but not the fashion of an accent colour. Sorry!
Still not feeling the accent thing at all at all. Loving the Rimmel Grey Matter shade though, shall be picking myself up some of that on the way home from work today!
Kirstie, maybe try more clashing accent nails? Like red and black, black and yellow or something?
The only way the accent nail works on me is if I use a Konad (stamp) design on one finger, usually the ring finger.
I have tried using co-ordinating colours – ie in your given case, using a darker/shimmier purple instead of the grey but people asked if I had made mistakes/was trying on a new colour etc.
I don’t think Ireland is ready for the accent nail just yet :/
Keep it up! I don’t think the accent nail is exactly ground breaking, but it’s a bit of fun, so why not? Saw some goth girl in BT2 the other day, black nails with yellow pinkie nails, thought it was adorable.
Cute necklace Kirstie. I like how it looks, I’d just be afraid that people would assume you did it in the dark or something, and would be too polite to mention it incase it was a mistake!!
hhmmm not sure maybe if the ring finger polish was more of a stand out shade, bright pink/red/gold. i do love that rimmel colour though.
Not sure either – think the colours are too close to each other – maybe some of that fab EL purple would be more striking
Sorry Kirstie, it still does nothing for me!
Although I like how apt it is that you’re holding a statue of a kitty in one of the pics – subconscious kitten-broodiness, perhaps?!
Oh god no! I hate it!
Orlando – it’s one of those waving cats from Japan. It was handy and provided a nice contrast!
Kirstie, where did you get the necklace? Its so cute!
Back to the topic at hand, I do love the Illamasqua shade but unfortunetly not the accent nail concept!!
I have to say i really like the accent nail idea, I think its pretty funky! Have tried it out myself and I’m liking it!
Sorry, I just don’t get it? Maybe it’s because the shades are too close to each other, I think I prefer the other one you did but overall I’m not a fan of this look. Sorry
I love the accent nail. Lorraine “The Current Custom” Stannick on youtube has done this for ages, except she puts glitter nail varnish on the ring fingers. Am I the only one that actually loves it? :s lol!
Cassie – I do like it, just prefer the last one Kirstie did which was a different texture on the ring finger instead of a different colour. Like the sound of the glitter varnish.
hehehe you’re all grand, I don’t mind in the slightest if you don’t like it! It’s half the reason I put it up!
Kirstie – I love your necklace btw, very cute.
What if you used the two colours to do a “french Mani” on one of the nails as opposed to painting the whole nail in a different colour…
I used to have this Fantastic Metalic Blue nail varnish and I would paint the whole nail in silver and then just a single blue stripe just down the center of each nail… loved it… and that was 10years ago!
I really need to be more adventurous…
Ignore them all its good! Now I do say this as someone who routinely paints their nails in two colours – naturally the unimaginative (who are unfortunately legion in Dublin) always ask “Did you run out of paint?”.
On the other hand I utterly loathe the standard french manicure (usually complete with thick white acrylic nail tips). We are all individuals or at least we should be
! Loving Illamasquas nail colours this season!
He thought your work of art was an accident, and then helpfully points it out. Aren’t men just ABSOLUTELY from another planet?
Ah, Jesus. Grey nails?
Fugeddaboudid
Ciara – I would have agreed with you before I tried a mani with Barry M nail paint in Grey. It’s bloody gorgeous!
