Inside my Stash: Blusher

I promised you some more delving inside my own stash of beauty bits, and so far we’ve checked out my fondness for Dior palettes, taken a gander at the couple of lipsticks I have and last week’s turn was that of foundation.

On to one of my favourite products, so: blusher. Oh, how I love this stuff. A proper transformative beauty product, blush genuinely makes a difference to a face of makeup and I really adore it. I tend to mostly go for shades of peach, coral and pale right up to hot pink, and while I’d say I probably favour powder products over cream-based ones, oh hell, who am I kidding? I likes ‘em all.

Check after the cut for the low-down on some of the blushers in my stash.

Lets kick off with my coral/peach/nude-toned offerings, shall we?

  1. Tarte Natural Cheek Stain in Tipsy – a US brand, I got this in New York and it’s an odd one – a push-up stick of light coral colour, it’s a bit of a pain to use so doesn’t get much love
  2. Revlon Matte Powder Blush in Blushing Berry – a really good pick for a totally non-sparkly, day blush.
  3. Julie Hewitt Cheekie in Peachie - you’ve already read about my fondness for this one
  4. Mac Just a Pinch Gel Blush – this was a limited edition from last year’s A Rose Romance collection
  5. Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Powder Pink – Lynnie’s quite the fan of this, so check out her thoughts
  6. Benefit Sugarbomb – their newest powder blush, this is nice but didn’t quite knock my socks off
  7. Clinique Quick Blush – a very cute little product that’s brush and powder blush combined, so good for your handbag
  8. Benefit Coralisata – OH HOW I LOVE THIS

Next up: pinks!

  1. Mac Mineralized Baked Blush in Daft Pink – again, another limited-edition product from one of last year’s collections
  2. Daniel Sandler Watercolour in Flush – a very underrated brand, the Daniel Sandler line has some really lovely artistry products, including this very fluid pink blusher
  3. Smashbox O-Glow microcirculating cheek colour – er, I didn’t even know I had this until I went rooting. Whoops!
  4. Bobbi Brown Blush in Pale Pink. Ok yeah, I know – it’s not exactly pale. But it is very pretty on!
  5. Stila Cherry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain – this is a cute little yoke you can use on lips and cheeks
  6. I LOVE THIS: it’s YSL’s Creme de Blush in Powdery Pink. Siliconey, blendable, posh and beautifully packaged, it’s great.
  7. Giorgio Armani Blushing Fabric in 1 – this is a newbie and we took a look at the range recently
  8. Mac Beauty Powder in Tippy – a lovely pink from the Hello Kitty collection
  9. Smashbox Blush Rush in Radiance. Smash by name, smash by nature, wha? Anyway, love this very, very bright pink, and that is why I rescued it from the bin and am soldiering on with it despite shatter-tasticness

Got any of my faves? Leave a comment and let me know!

Ooooh I do love blushes! Benefit are yet to make one I don’t love. I have Coralista, Sugarbomb, Dandelion and 10. Sugarbomb & Dandelion are my day wear ones as they are nice and sheer. I love Coralista for a bit more oompf for a night out. 10 is my favourite! Because I’m pale, I don’t do bronzers much so this light one is perfect and I looooove the highlighter part of it.

I need to pick up a couple of other brands when I’m in NYC this year but I am a creature of habit so I may just be picking up Georgia & Dallas!

  • ArtDonatella says:

My favourite at present (and I don’t really own that many :( ) is Stila Convertible Colour in ‘Orchid’…but I have to say, I am soooo craving for the Armani Blushing Fabric, but too expensive :( …so sad! Anyway, nice stash, Kirstie!!!

  • BerG says:

I have to agree with you onthe Sugarbomb, was expecting a lot more from this. Its nice but not as good as i was hoping for. Got the MAC Liberty beauty powder, in shell pearl and am totaly in love with it. Its the perfect blend of coral/pink for me, just wakes up my whole face.
Always wondered how the smashbox oglow would look on, have the lip version and it comes up a bit strong on my lips.

  • mademoiselle says:

I so love blusher too, it makes such a difference. Favourites are Nars the Multiple in Portofino and good old reliable Benetint. Benefit 10 is lovely too.

  • Aside from mascars, I’d say blusher is my number one most needed products, it’s just so brightening and I look like death without it. I agree with your thoughts on Coralista it’s gorgeous and I love the shimmer in it. I quite often wear it as blusher/highlighter so I don’t need to take 2 products away with me. This has really made we want to check out the Daniel Sandler, Bobbi Brown and Armani ones now. Great post!

  • daiseeboo says:

Bought the Julie Hewett one and really like it, but think I like it more on my lips than cheeks as it gives them a really beautiful colour. Think Coralista is the next blush that I will purchase. Bought a lovely Mac one recently but it has way too much sparkle for day time. Used to have a lovely peachy Bourjois one but alas it is no more :(

  • baby in a corner says:

my sister has the hello kitty one in tippy, its quite a bright pink on pale skins! i got it as a present for her!
i love chanel blusher in reflex, its a slightly shimmery coral and great for paleys!
i also use urban decay in quickie, a bright pink and new to my collection is givenchy blush in four colours that you swirl together – they are very pale peaches and pinks.

  • Emz says:

I agree about Sugarbomb – was very disappointed with it!
Love the looks of the YSL creme & dying to try out the Armani!

  • Polkadot says:

I love Coralista so much! Its the only blusher I’ve ever used so much that the pan underneath is exposed in the centre. The benefit lady in House of Fraser Belfast suggested I try it but it looked waaay too bright and scary for my pale-skinned, dark-haired self. oh how wrong I was! It is perfect, it just adds a healthy glow.

Half considering going for an all out pink now like the blushers 8 and 9 in the picture but I’d need convincing that I wouldn’t end up looking like Bosco!

  • Twinkletoes says:

Aaah blusher, one of my very favourites :) Fantastic stash Kirstie.

I am verrryy tempted to try the YSL Creme de Blush, but at the moment my favourites are Benefit Coralista and Nars Orgasm (old reliable!). Also have a lovely pinky MAC one from the Barbie collection which I break out now and again as well as that MAC Just a Pinch gel above. The others I have don’t see the light of day too often…perhaps I should Swap Siopa them!

  • Princesswatshername says:

I’ve never tried a benefit blush, are they really that good? I kind of have a thing against benefit….I love the Bobbi Brown in pale pink too!! My favourite blush is GA sheer blush in 2 – its so amazingly pretty for day and night, couldn’t be without it! Kirstie, how do you apply the broken Smashbox one? Does it not come out unevenly?

  • littlesis says:

Good God Kirstie, you’ve made my day!!
I adore blusher. Myself and my best friend are absolute divils for it.
I love the look of the Daniel SAndler and the Armani. I have yet to try Bebefit Coralista.
My faves are: Mac in Blushbaby
    Mac in well dressed
    Nars Orgasm for night
    Benefit Georgia
    Benefit dandelion
    Mac in Springsheen
Maybelline dream mousse in pink frosting
    benefit benetint..
    I think that’s it!

  • littlesis says:

eek sorry for my bad typing, I was v excited!!

  • Cindz1222 says:

I am in complete awe of your stash!

I am a blush virgin… I have no idea how to apply it properly, I am too scared I look like a clown or a rag doll, even with loads and loads of blending, I end up washing it all off and starting again leaving the blush off. Granted the only bluch I ownn came in a palette from Virgin Vie… and the colours look intimidating!!!

So how about a Blush Tutorial? Like you did with the Foundation brush? PLEASE!!!!!!

  • ClaireBear says:

I have never, ever, used blusher. Many years of high colouring as a teenager left me with two bright red cheeks that I was forever trying to conceal, and now even though the high colour issue seems to have settled down, I still will not use blusher, as I still light up like a set of traffic lights if I get too warm. It’s just not something I ever consider as part of my makeup ‘routine’, such as it is :) And somehow I don’t think I ever will.

  • Keila says:

I hardly ever use it either, don’t know how! And I’m pretty pale so am afraid of all those hot pinks and the like. Must investigate the Benefit ones or maybe Bobbi Brown.

  • Cindz1222 says:

oops… ‘scuse the Bluch and ownn.. Have a jumpy excitable 2yr old on my lap!

  • magpie says:

i never use blusher either i always go red under makeup so i feel i shouldnt use it ! am i wrong ??

  • Aphrodite says:

Have a look at this post if you’re worried about overdoing the blusher
    http://beaut.ie/blog/?p=16986

  • Efa says:

I’m using a cream blusher from Ilimasqua (SP?) in rude at the minute, its lovely and subtle. I also love posie tint!

  • Dee Dee says:

thanks for this post, i love all things blusher and was a bit surprised that NARS Orgasm didn’t appear in your stash?!?!

I love pink tones for day and peach for going out, my current faves are the BB pale pink cream version, NARS Orgasm and also this Shiseido one that i have to share:

    http://www.shiseido.ie/?#/makeup/shiseido-the-makeup/face/accentuating-color-stick-for-cheeks

I have it in rosy flush and its great for daytime, its quite sheer and looks great on cheeks and lips with a fresh nude eye during the day…….

Ordered a benefit powder pop palette at the weekend and am eagerly awaiting its arrival, it has Hoola (great bronzer that i use all the time anyway), Dandelion and Dallas. I am so excited about trying Dandelion and Dallas……

  • Alethea says:

I love blusher-I must say that if I was only allowed bring one beauty product, and I happened to be on a desert island-it would be blusher.

I have the following blusher products :
    -Mac in Desert Rose
    -Nars in Gina
    -Benefit Pop Palette
    -Benefit Poisetint
-Smashbox (not sure what the shade name it but it’s pink!)
-Everyday minerals bronzer in Email me
-Bourjois X2 (again, not sure what shade but both are pink)
-Lots of samples of everyday minerals blushers

There’s probably a few more lying around that I haven’t thought of too!

  • Jennyfer says:

Anyone know any way to get Tarte products shipped here? I fell in love with a few of their products when I was in New York last summer. I should have stocked up… I have tried everything and no luck :(

  • Sandy Beach says:

Definitely not a blusher person. Own one (for years and years and years and…..) which I actually paid for and which has two colours in the pallet. This is kept at home. The second is a blusher sample I got from BB and that stays in work.

  • sweetie says:

    OMG, what a stash!!!

I’m also a biggie blush addict. My stash (and i do use them all, I swear!!!) includes:
MAC Perfect Cheek, Mocha and Fleur Power
    MAC Blushcream in Posey
MAC Color Cream base, don’t remember the name, looks fierce in the pan, fiery red/coral, but blended out gives an amazing coral flush
    Chanel Coral Tweed
    Benefit Dandelion
    Nars Gina and Gilda
Clinique stick, don’t remember the name either, bronzey color

And of course I have a huge list of the blushes I’d love to get – Ilamasqa’s Sin is being No.1. in fact, will be visiting BT2 to get it and a lovely liquid metal palette this weekend :)

  • YourBeauty says:

Oh…i do love my blushes! My collection consists so far of mostly pinks and corals:

    Smashbox Prism
    Smashbox Flush
    Smashbox Chiffon
    Lancome Peach Fever (20)
    Urban Decay Score
    Bourjois Lilas D`Or
    Bourjois Rose D`or

I would love to try some of the Benefit and Shiseido blushers, they both look yum :) .

  • Almost 30 says:

Thank you so much for this post. Spent some of the post saying, I have that, I have that, I have that….

    My blush collection

Benefit dandelion ( was my first blusher as gave me a nice glow ( being a pale red head) but now I want something more)
Clinique – touch blush can’t remember the colour but loved it until it suddenly vanished from clinique counters
    Clinique blushwear cream stick
    Benefit 10
    Benefit Benetint
Benefit Rushhour – handy for the handbag and touch ups
    Benefit Coralista
Bobbi Brown pot rouge in powder pink ( purchased last weekend after reading about on beaut.ie)

  • Ems says:

Um, also a pale person with high colouring and not a fan of blusher! Have pals who love teh stuff and maintain that it’s essential but when you go red/pink all the time, it’s not really.

Tis always a problem with foundation and SA usually say either ‘oh match it with your skin tone and add colour with blusher & bronzer’…or ‘ this colour is better with your high colouring and add bronzer on your neck’ so ’tis a bit of a no-man’s land. Especially when I just want to hide the red…spent years wearing the green stuff from No7 to hide it, just gave me a nice alien tinge….

  • Anneml says:

I only have 2 blushers! Benefit’s Dandelion powder, lovely and subtle and nearly gone and a Julie Hewitt one whose name I can’t think of right now.

What is the best way to apply a cream blush – with fingertips or a brush?

  • Dee Dee says:

Anneml, i always use my fingertips for cream blush and it works well for me but saying that i have never tried it with a brush………..

  • alchemystee says:

Absolutely *adore* Benefit Coralista, possible the most flattering blusher, like, ever!
I was considering trying Nars Orgasm next, but as it doesn’t feature in your stash, I’m thinking I might not bother now! If it ain’t broke…

  • Lala says:

I’m actually kind of scared of blusher! It’s the one make-up product I have never really gotten in to… Never know the right shade to pick, & then am afraid of the aforementioned Bosco cheeks! (would be scared stiff of those mad pink shades pictured in your stash Kirstie!) I just own a few:

    Posie Tint – Benefit
    MAC cream blush in Blossoming
    Bourjois in Rose D’oree
A really old Max Factor one in Mulberry, I think

I got the BB Cabana Corals set recently & started experimenting with the lip shades as a blusher, dabbed on using my fingers… doesn’t look all that bad, surprisingly. Goes on fairly sheer.

Would love to know the right shade of blusher to use if going with a very smokey eye & nudey lips! Or vice versa, natural-looking eyes & strong lips!

  • Trillian says:

I have Benefit Dandelion too, and I wear it every day! I sometimes put a pop of a brighter colour over it.
Bobbi Brown – Pink Sugar – lovely but a little glittery.
Laura Mercier – A limited edition as part of a palette with a coral & a pink – I love these, but apparently they never sold them on their own.
    Bourjois – Rose d’Or.
Benetint – can’t use it at all! Look like Bosco.

I can’t use cream blush at all – I find it impossible to blend.

  • ClaireBear says:

Ems – I used to buy bottles of that stuff from No7 as well! Made your foundation look really thick, but did the trick, though there was a fair bit of blending involved. Is it still available? Although thankfully I don’t really need it daily now, but when I get a little too warm, sometimes I wish I had a bottle on hand.

Here’s one for Kirstie and Aphrodite – are there any cosmetic treatments for high colouring? (apart from green goo!!) How is it that some people can be in 40 degree heat and still have a perfect complexion, when others of us see temperatures in the teens and immediately have the aforementioned Bosco cheeks?

  • jikl says:

whats the rules for blusher if you have pale skin and cool colouring? should you choose pink if you’re cool toned or more of a peach? i’m one of those people who spent their teenage years blushing as soon as anyone so much as glanced at them, so i never understood why i should want to try to recreate that with make up. now i’m starting to get it, but still feel like my make up looks too obvious and “made up” when i wear blusher.

  • joytotheworld says:

Jennyfer, Ive used All Cosmetics for buying a Bobbi Brown palette, and had quick and easy delivery – they do tarte as well, but not a huge selection. Here’s the link if you want to check it out

    http://www.allcosmeticswholesale.com/tarte.html

  • Nicole says:

I hate blusher! It looks ridiculous:) Think Debbie Dingle from Emmerdale.

  • Kirstie says:

    Oh, er, thanks Nicole…

  • baby in a corner says:

For anyone who thinks that blusher wouldn’t suit them – give it a go! i used to have mild acne and my cheeks were very red but i found that blusher actually disguised it better than foundation. just make sure you use corals and artificial looking pinks rather than shades which are the same as the redness in your face.

  • Maudy Mac says:

Love the “Inside My Stash” posts!!

I like the fact that we get to see them all….the good, the bad and the ugly, and find out what you think about each product.

  • Holly says:

Believe it or not, I haven’t tried any of these!
Baby in a corner: I agree, I have very red cheeks and I use peach and coral blushes and it doesn’t enhance my redness at all!

I love the look of the Cheekie..

My favourite blushes are Peaches by Mac and Satin Peach by Maybelline. I’m loving these two new blushes by Catrice, the Nude Sensations collection. Cheap and really good!

  • BerG says:

Watched Xpose again tonight and they used the o-glow on the model they made up. It gave a lovely illuminating effect. Kirstie you should give it a go, and let us know what you reckon.

  • FairyDust says:

I only have 3 blushes, Benefit Dandelion which is my favourite its very pretty and natural and lasts forever! Rimmel Santa Rose has a bit more colour than dandelion its a peachy colour and its a very good blush considering the price. I have smashbox o-glow but it nearly always gives me bright pink cheeks so i don’t use it that often.

  • BerG says:

FairyDust:- Thats good to know re the O-glow, i kind of figured it would react to my skin and turn a neon pink. The lip glow is lovely but gives me a very strong reaction, so will be giving the O-glow a miss. Thanks for the info.

  • CSW says:

Also a big fan of Benefit Dandelion for an every-day blusher.

I have a gorgeous one by The Balm called Hot Mama, which is a pinky-peachy colour that suits pale Irish complexions, and gives a lovely healthy glow.

  • Sona says:

Kirstie, I’m totally coveting your blush collection!! Wow.

I’m a self confessed blush addict. Wouldn’t leave the house without it (and I can safely say I’ve never looked like Debbie Dingle while wearing it!). Coralista is my current fave, but just bought Mac Springsheen recently and it’s rapidly becomming a firm favourite.

  • edelmc says:

I love the inside the stash posts!

    My fav blushers are

MAC – pinch o peach and angel
    MAC cream blush in lilicent
MAC cream colour base in hush, shell and plastic fantastic (i think the last one was limited edition)

I am eyeing up getting MAC mineralise blush in dainty – has anyone tried the mineralise blushes?

I got o-glow and loved it but developed a terrible rash to it doh!

  • Lola says:

I’ve said it before, Laura Geller! I never wore blush until I found her range of them, they’re fool proof, that’s why I love them. they’re baked swirls of colour ,Mac has started copying her, Laura had them first! LG’s blushes have at least four pigments swirls togehter, you can pick out one with a small brush and use it as a shadow. multi tasking product that’s perfect for blush virgins, as are her baked swirls eye shadow; FOOLPROOF!!
