The Dermalogica Double Cleanse

precleanse.jpg

To be honest I thought this Dermalogica double cleansing lark was a bit of a swizz. After all Dermalogica do make the best cleansers there are – so why use two types of cleanser?

Well, there’s clean and there’s deep double cleansed Dermalogica clean. That’s why.

Margaret, the therapist who gave me a brilliant Dermalogica facial in Float last week explained all. In a nutshell, if you have oily skin, skin prone to congestion or wear makeup, then you need something to cut through all of these layers, leaving your regular cleanser free to clean right into the pores and do its job properly.

PreCleanse is gentle and can even be used around the eye area to take off makeup. It promises to “achieve ultra clean and healthy skin with a double cleansing regimen that begins with PreCleanse. This plant-based cleansing oil, fortified with Olive and Kukui oils, thoroughly melts layers of excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, waterproof make-up, environmental pollutants and residual skin products that build-up during the day.

Makes sense to me. I bought my PreCleanse last week and am waiting for it to arrive. If you’d like Margaret to cast her expert eye over your skin then get over to Float and make an appointment!

I bought the precleanse last week, the special cleansing gel and the dermal clay cleanser. I’m using the first two every night and the dermal clay about twice a week. I use the special cleansing gel in the morning! Bout from Tor here on beaut.ie for excellent price and speedy delivery! I’m using it since last Monday and already notice a clear improvement, skin is in great shape! Thumbs up to Dermalogica and Tor!

  • Penny says:

^I’m definitely interested in trying the precleanse. I use the dermal clay cleanser at the mo, which I find very good. If the precleanse has made an improvement after a week, I’m buying!

Aphrodite, did you try that medicated clearing gel yet? Just wondering what you thought of it.

  • Rachelle says:

penny, i tried the medicated clearing gel. I love dermalogica stuff but this was a dissapointment.
Didnt find it made any differance to my spots or blackheads & ive been using it for about a month now.I wouldnt buy it again.
I love the dermal clay cleanser & the daily microfoliant, both excellent products.

  • Penny says:

^ Yeah, I have the medicated clearing gel too, and found it a bit of a disappointment myself. It seems to work wonders for other people though. Lucky us, eh!

  • Aphrodite says:

I haven’t gotten the clearing gel – it’s coming with the precleanse!

  • Miss M says:

Penny, I also use the dermal clay cleanser and have more recently been using the precleanse. I’ve really noticed the difference in how clear my skin is. I tend to have oily, acne prone skin and I honestly can’t believe how much of a difference cleansing twice and using the microfoliant has made, my blackheads have even cleared up! All recommended by one of the lovely girls at Sanas.

  • Penny says:

I’m really liking the sound of this precleanse now! Must purchase! The skin prep scrub is another of my favourite products. I just love it.

  • Nikki says:

Girls, I found that the medicated clearing gel was good for taking down swelling and soreness from those big hard spots that come up under the skin in lumps! It really calmed them down for me.

  • tor206 says:

Nikki Thanks for your comment ur a dote xxxxxxx

  • Penny says:

It does have a calming effect. I think I expected too much from it to be honest. I thought it would be the answer to everything! Lol!

    Hi,

Have to tell my story about Dermalogica..I spent a fortune and bought lots of products following a face mapping. I got loads of cysts on my chin and jaw area which I assumed was caused by stress so I kept using the products for about 6 months. Ended up going to Doctor and got antibiotics which didnt work. Then I found a thread on the net where people were breaking out from Dermalogica…I stopped using it and skin cleared up within days…just goes to show that expensive is not always best!

  • Lyn says:

I like the sound of precleansing too. I’ll have to dig out my Shu Uemura cleansing oil to use as the pre-cleanse, and then use my regular cleanser after it and see if I notice a difference. Thanks for the tip!

  • Aphrodite says:

Lyn – that might work well – I have some really nice cleansing oils but I never feel that they deep cleanse – let us know how you get on!

  • Eimear Nic an B says:

Oooo…and I thought it was just a scam to get you to buy another cleanser! Sounds good for removing eye make-up, it’s v handy that it does the two jobs. I have to say, I used the medicated clearing gel and I found that it just tore layers off my skin; took away the spot, but left an angry mess of dry skin in its wake. Not pretty. That said – maybe I was using too much?

  • Maribelle says:

    Hi all

I was face mapped a couple of months ago for the first time ever (had never even heard of it before!). I went down to Atoria in Monkstown and loved it. It was a great experience, fab salon & therapists too.

Anyway to get to the main bit. My skin was in bits before hand. Grey and constant spots and black heads. Now it’s clear and bright and loads of people have commented on it.

    GO DERMALOGICA!!

  • Penny says:

Wow! That sounds good Maribelle. What products were you recommended? Before I bought my stuff, I only had an ‘online face mapping’ where they recommended your products for you. Maybe I should go and get an actual face mapping done, because I still get breakouts (this only started happening a while back, before that my skin was always good). Dermalogica has been ok for me, but I haven’t had your kind of results!

Anyone know if the face mapping is available anywhere in Cork?

  • Maribelle says:

    Hey Penny

I have the cleaning cream that I use in the shower and the daily micro foliant (also in shower) Plus I use the multi active toner as a spritzer during the day. Then I use the multivitamin masque a couple of times a week plus I put a multivit capsules on my face every night. There#s also the most amazing anti bac that really worked on my cousin (she’s 16).

I’m telling you – i tried everything and this is the first time i’ve had a real result.

    Best of luck!!!!

  • Aphrodite says:

Hi Penny – anywhere that does a dermalogica facial will do skin mapping – do go and get it done!!

  • Scarlett says:

I really don’t think Dermalogica is that expensive when you consider how long the products last. unlike some other brands, they come in lovely big bottles & can last for months!

Got a sample of the precleanse & used to take off ‘night out’ make-up[, was great for that & the heavy eye-make-up.

  • keelin says:

can anyone tell me should i buy the dermalogical precleanse or shuuemura clensing oil premium A/O?

  • Admin says:

Hi Keelin – shu is more of a one step makeup remover to my mind and I’m pretty sure that precleanse is meant to be used in conjunction with other dermalogica products because it doesn’t emulsify and wash off like shu umeuras oils. so it’s down to personal choice really.

  • keelin says:

hi, admin . have you used dermalogical precleanse? actually, it is same as shu uemura oil. it can emulsify and wash off like shuuemura.

can anyone tell me should i buy the dermalogical precleanse or shuuemura cleansing oil premium A/O?
What are the different between them?

  • Admin says:

ah there you go then! I’ve HAD it used on me, but never purchased myself because I am not a dermalogica fan at all, I dislike the range in general.

  • keelin says:

do i need to use sunblock ?if i stay at home in a day time.

  • keelin says:

hi, lauraf.can i confirm your answer, i no need to use sunblock at home. i only need to use sunblock if i am outside.Am i right?thanks why therapist call me: i need to use sunblock at home and outside?

  • LauraF says:

Keelin only outside should be fine u dont realy need 2 wear it in d house. What one are u wearin?

  • keelin says:

hello, i bought dermalogical solar dense spf 30, but it have allergry to me. did anyone use
    sheer moisture spf 15,
    super sensitive faceblock spf 30,
    oil-free matte spf 20,
can anyone give me the real comment about above products because i would like to buy one more sunblock for me and i have already waste my money to buy solar dence spf30. help………..

  • GornGal says:

If you got it in a salon you might be able to return it. Find yor nearest salon and ask for 3-4 days samples before you by, explain the reaction, I use super sensitive faceblock spf 30,and it is fine but I dont have sensitive skin and dont react to anything. I know one of the products is to be used in your moistureiser maybe it is that and you used it worng? Try a salon they should be able to advise you.

  • keelin says:

hi, GornGal. can u tell me before put on super sensitive faceblock spf 30 , what skin care product do you put? can you list down ?i don’t know why i can’t find the professional salon, even though the big company. thank you.

  • Erin says:

    Hi,
I was face mapped and the therapist recommended
dermalogica special cleansing gel, daily microfoliant and active moist moisturizer and now I after about 3 weeks of use I have huge spots on my face.Did this happen to anyone else when they started?

  • Cleo says:

    Hi Erin,
I got the Dermalogica face mapping done last month…think it was February 14th and like you I was advised to use the daily microfoliant, cleanser and masque. I bought them all and used them for about 3 days and I have lots o little spots and blackheads since. I have always used their moisturiser and face wash and before the face mapping my skin was fine. I’m just back to using those basics every day to try and clear up my skin….was very disappointed..especially after buying all the new products that u can’t use now!!

  • rozzie says:

no!I use dermalogica religuously and i had the same problems to begin with, give any new skin product 6-10 weeks and then make a judgement, I had those breakouts you speak of, have been using dermalogica for teh last 2 years and cannot fault it..
I never never get breakouts unless i use something else or forget to take my makeup off, if i do get a breakout, I use the ultra calming cleanser and the microfoilant and the blemishes vanish wthin 1-2 days, they includ arnica in a lots of their cleanser which clear up blemishes and help them heal!
Also dermalogica is product guaranteed when it has been recommended by a therapist through face mapping, if you still have problems after 6 weeks, bring it back for no quibble money back!also only put the masque on once a week or use the microfoilant once a day…what type of skin do you have?

  • jennifer says:

keelin did u buy the products from a salon or online?

cause if u bought them online u might have bought the wrong stuff..if its in a salon then return it
when u say a reaction was it just spots?
when u switch to a new product ur skin needs time to adapt and that can take up to 10 weeks..breakouts only mean that ur skin is clearing out and de-congesting..surely thats a good thing and then going back to other produsts only confuses ur skin

having ur face mapping done in a salon and then buying ur products online is not the right way to go…u have no come back if there not right for u..every salon can accept products back if they dont agree with u and ul get a full money back………..TRUST ME

  • GornGal says:

Keelin I use at the end after all the other products. The International Dermal Institute / Dermalogica Dublin
    Units 50-52, The Swan Centre
    Rathmines, Dublin 6. Ireland
    tel: 01 4988030

Should be able to tell you where the nearest salon is. Is it poss you could be having a reaction to something else

  • LauraF says:

Oh i thought that 2 was comin out in few spots but after a few weeks of usin d dermalogica my skin has never looked better…along from a helping hand from Liz Earle! D dermalogica really sorted my skin out!! Gonna go for another facial next week me thinks!!!

  • GornGal says:

Dermalogica have a really good spot cream

  • Erin says:

    Hi,
Thanks for your comments,Have to admit that I am a bit disappointed in the products too, they are quite pricey and I wasn’t expecting to break out so much.I am due back at the salon next week for a facial and evaluation so it might be that I need a different product or as you say my skins just needs time to adjust.
    We’ll see!!

  • caroline says:

I have to say I was very dissapointed with the pre cleanser. I have acne prone skin & it was reccommended by a friend who also has similar skin to me. Prior to use my skin was not too bad, I got the occasional break out that I could deal with. Now though my chin and jaw line have erupted in a mass of red sore pimples. This has been going on with 2 weeks. I have been using the pre cleane with a month now. I’ve stopped using it.
Maybe I need to use it longer to see the positive effects, if any, however my skin is getting me so down I’m not willing to continue. I’m going to my GP to-day to see can he perform some miracle! In future I’ll stick to a simple cleanser. I feel I have been duped by a clever marketing machine by buying this product!

  • Shazza says:

    Caroline

It sounds like you have very similar skin to myself. My sister uses dermalogical products and raves about them. So I thought I’d give them a go. I had my face mapped and was told I have oily skin (I do but its also pretty sensitive) and was recommended the precleanse, derma clay, and active moist, along with the daily microfoliant and barrier repair for the sensitive side of my skin. I started to use the products and my skin went into overdrive production of oil and I had the worst breakouts ever – similar to your experience. This happened almost as soon I started using the products. However, pursevered for 2 months. I went to the doctor and he told me to stop using the products. I did and after a week my skin has completely cleared up. I was lucky that I didnt actually buy any of the products – only used the samples.

Just goes to show that it does not suit everyone. My advice to you would be stop using them and go back to what your skin is happy with.

  • Caroline says:

I posted on the 9th July about how my skin erupted like a volcano from using the pre cleaner. I stopped using it after a month & now 2 weeks later my skin is ALOT better. I did however go to my GP & he prescribed a course of antibiotics so that has probably helped also. Sometimes a simple cleaning routine works better than any of the expensive products available.

  • Deborah says:

    Hello

I have very bad dehydrated skin. I have been told that this is the total opposite to dry skin??????????

Has anybody tried skin products from the dermalogica range for this skin proplem?

  • [...] It has made a huge difference to my skin, got rid of a lot of my blackheads and my skin is definitely not made more oily by using it. I hate to say it, but my complexion verges on radiantly healthy these days. I can’t rave about Nude enough, but it’s the only oil cleanser I’ve tried. I know a lot of people have had huge success blending their own oils, but I’m too lazy to attempt that and have Nude stockpiled so… If the idea of using something called straight-up oil freaks you out too much, there’s always Dermalogica’s amazing PreCleanse, which you can read about it in more detail here at Beaut.ie.
