L’Onglex is a brand I bet some of yer Mammies have used. Recently relaunched, this beloved old brand has had a makeover (they’re now so modren they’re even Twittering) and comes in super pretty bottles that wouldn’t look out of place on the dressing table.
Pink is for acetone-based and purple is for the acetone-free version – you choose which kind you like. If you’ve got gel nails or need a heavy duty remover, pink is for you. But if you need something a little gentler choose the acetone-free purple bottle. Both cost a weeny €3.69.
See now me and nail polish remover have always had an uneasy relationship. Obviously I have to use it because I like to do my nails. But no matter which brand I tried it always dried the feck out of them. I always went for acetone free versions cos they’re kinder to nails, but even so there was an inordinate amount of cracking and splitting.
I was therefore both relieved and surprised when I used L’Onglex. It’s an oily formula that promises to nourish nails – and it actually does it. Takes off varnish easily with no rubbing and scrubbing – and no nasty splitting apres remover. Thumbs up (french manicured ones of course).
Yet another example of mammy knowing best. But don’t tell her I said so.

I really need some of this right this second. Nails in a total state
ah lovely packaging!
I couldn’t agree more Apdrodite!
And I’m also almost certain my mother still has a bottle of the older formula on her dresser
In the true spirit of testing, I used both the Acetone Free & the Complete Care this weekend, one formula for each hand! I too usually use acetone-free removers as my nails crack & split constantly. While usually I find it takes more of the acetone-free products to remove the varnish, I found both of these equally good – one clean sweep & my sticky sandwich was no more! I did find the smell of the Complete Care a little overpowering while using it but I liked the fragrance from my nails once I was done & no drying either – I will definitely be using this again!
Aphrodite apologies for incorrectly spelling your name above
Wow will have to give them a go, the packagine is real pretty. I ususlly use the boots nail pads and have found them great, and very economical.
Are these available in chemists, must keep an eye out. Have overhauled my nail bag, with stickey, sche vite and the essence nail pens, so will have to add this to complete the makeover.
Don’t you need to use acetone free nail polish remover for gel nails?? Acetone dissolves the gel I think?? It’s certainly not good for them anyway……
My nails are also splitting like crazy at the moment. Will be purchasing some of this on the way home…am painting my nails tonight!
I did exactly the same Emz! I used one the acetone free on one had and the complete care on the other. I too always use acetone free nail polish remover as I always wear nail varnish hence always using nail polish remover. I loved both and being honest I didn’t see much difference between both of them. What I loved about them was my nail varnish came away with zero mess-and I mean zero. I hate removing dark polish as my whole hand ends up being faint hint of the polish colour (Sally Hansen in the main culprit) One dip into the L’Onglex Nail Polish Remover and a glide over my nails and hey presto clean as a whistle. Both removers were quite strong -as most polishes are- but I didn’t mind that too much. I left my nails polish free for two days(-oh the shame!) just to keep an eye on dryness/splitting but I’m delighted to report I got none of these.
I thought the packaging was really girlie and pretty in pink and a lilac colour.
This is def a hero product for me, very impressive and I would def recommend
Endora – yep, acetone free for gel or acrylics as acetone would disolve them, probably not completely but imagine it would leave a sticky, gloopy top layer or remove the seal from them.
i also got to test this and really really like them. the packaging is sooo cute and i love the little clear bit on the side so you can see how much you have left inside!
i thought the normal one was definitely more effective for the dark colours im wearing at the moment. i like the idea of acetone free as it is more gentle expecially if like me you chop and change the colour of your nail varnish every day or two!
they both still smell quite strong but not very overpowering like cheap brands and i definitely found that a little went along way unlike supermaket brands where you need half a bottle and a million pads to take off polish.
To be honest i didnt see much improved in the condition of my nails bu then again i understand miracles dont happen from one of two uses but im sure over time there will be a difference!
Overall definitely the thumbs up from me!
Tbell-i forgot about the clear bit on the side to show you how much you have left-there was 3 stages on the side
-Handy Fresh Bottle
-Half Full or Half Empty?
-Note to Self! Top up soon
This was quirky and a brill idea
ilovetoshop- yes it thought it was very cute and funny. couldnt remember what the 3 were tho! you have a great memory!
Tbell-soz cant leave you think I have a good memory I have the bottle on my desk here in work
Yip the 3 stages are great & I also love the packaging – so chic & Parisienne!
o i never thought to bring it with me….i was like a right little nerd making out my notes on a post it last night to bring to work with me and checking the website every half an hour to see was it time to post my mini review yet! god help me if i had to do this for a living!!
I got to test this out aswell and did the same as the other beaut.ies and tried a different one on each hand. I definitely put them through their paces as I was wearing OPI Mad as a Hatter over Revlon Blackest Black, Stickey and Seche Vite! Glitter polish is always difficult to get off but after a good bit of scrubbing it did the job eventually and there was no drying afterwards either thanks to the oil formulation. The acetone was a lot quicker at removing it though.
I thought the same as Emz the smell was quite strong when I was using it but afterwards the scent left on my nails afterwards, faintly or rose I think.I loved the packaging so will be using again instead of my regular Cutex.
Sounds like this could be great, love the packaging. Is it stocked in normal pharmacies or Boots?
Im lucky enough to be able to do my nails at my desk-when’s the cat’s away…Tbell!
Thanks to the kind ladies at Beaut.ie, I also got to sample this one! When I opened the package that came in the door, I was looking at it for a few mins. going, ‘this brand name sounds familiar’ and then I remembered that my Mum used to use it when we were kids!! She had this little locker in her room when we were kids where she kept all her nail goodies and she used to always have a bottle of this stashed in there, along with her cutex nail polishes! Does anyone else remember them – the ones with the long, silver tops! She must have had every shade of pink going and myself and my sis used to be always trying to get a sneaky mani (well, not really, more paint-job!) in when she wasn’t looking!
Anyway, on the product itself, I’m a real creature of habit when it comes to nail-varnish remover and it’s always the Cutex one that I got for in Boots, which is just “grand”, nothing special, but not crap either. So in preparation for this I did a nice Stickey sandwich mani with OPI’s My Private Jet, which is a kind of shimmery brown with a blue shimmer off it (nice and dark for testing purposes) and when I went to use this, the polish just came off in one sweep of the cotten pad, no staining, no awkward bits caught in the corner, I was really surprised! Also, none of those dry, white marks on your nails afterwards that my Cutex remover often leaves, which was a nice change. I only sampled the acetone-free (purple) one so far, but my sis sampled the pink one and she found it equally as good as the purple one, so this has gotta get a big thumbs up from me, and it even brought back a few good ol’ memories of the sneaky manicures when we were kids!
i have seen it in dunnes and superquinn, tried it last week – love it!
perfect timing, I just got my in the post today (thanks Beaut!!) shall be testing them out over the next few days & will report back but my nails are a total state so it cannot make them any more rubbish..all this talk of one pad/no mess/no staining is making me think I’ve already found my HG remover!

mine in the post, not my, need coffee!
My gawd, don’t think I have ever seen such a set of more positive comments in my life!
also, look for it at Dunnes, Superquinn, Spar & loads of smaller outlets
I’m nearing the end of a bottle of Leighton Denny and I’ll definitely be purchasing this. Sadly not even the great man Leighton has helped sort out my permanantly splitting nails.
Also got a package in the post from the lovely Aphrodite. Found it great, did what everyone else did and tried the acetone version on one hand and the acetone-free on the other. Found both really good and loved the new bottles, quite quirky which is what I like in a purchase
The indicators on the side are great as I’m forever running low on nail varnish remover.
Found the smell is quite chemically still in the bottle but once applied to your nails it changes and doesnt smell like that at all, best smelling remover I’ve tried. L’Onglex has always been a fav of mine and these new bottles make it so that I won’t be hiding the bottle away anymore, they have pride of place in my bathroom next to the cotton pads and cotton buds for quick access when I get a chip
This brought me back to my childhood – I haven’t seen L’Onglex since I was a kid and it always reminds me of my Mum & her perfectly manicured long nails (so love of manis is obv. genetic in my house!!!).
I loved the pack design – very 1950′s French style with a gorgeous retro font and a very decent-sized bottle to boot. I tried one on each hand and both performed equally well, with total removal of 5 layers of Stickey, Essie colour & Seche Vite in a jiffy.
I’ll definitely make a permanent change from my usual Tesco or Boots own brand to L’Onglex
Okay I was so excited when I got the package and thought the envelope smelled kind of chemically and was so curious! But anyway I have been a fan of L’Onglex for years it knocks spots off all other nail polish removers no matter what the price. I had never used the acetone free version though.
So anyway, I did the standard trial one hand for each type and as this week I was sporting my lovely Illamasqua Boosh and Hiss combination (inky black with a glitter topcoat) and as nail buffs will be aware nothing tests the endurance of remover like a good coat of glitter. Well as other people have said all though the smell of chemicals is quite strong in the bottle it does not smell as bad as that on the nails. The acetone free is every bit as good as the regular remover and both left my nails free of colour and glitter ready to be dolled-up for this week’s colour!
Love the new packaging now I can see when I need to replenish the bottle and it looks much more stylish than the old bottle. One thing though I think they need to market it a bit more as when I was looking to buy it the last time I almost missed it with looking for ye olde style!
have been away for a few days so just getting a chance to pop in now! Yes the actoneversion will take your gels off ‘ that´s what a lot of people use those kind offormulations for – to soack their gels and their broadways off – and of course glitter varnish doesn´t stand a chance either!
thanks a million to everyone for their comprehensive testing-maybe we can call on you again!
Anytime Aphrodite – only too glad to be a guinea pig
Hope you enjoyed your break!
oh lord have just re read my comment – I wrote it in a Internet caff and the keyboard was seriously wonky – hence the typos!
