My trusty bottle of Seche Vite has gone seriously gloopy of late. Sigh. While I do have a stable of other decent enough nail varnish top coats to fall back on in the face of such calamity, I found not having a fast drying top coat at my fingertips (har har) to be a real nuisance. Because even when I do my DIY manicures in front of the telly hours and hours before I need to use my hands again, without Seche Vite I end up with inexplicable smudges and dents and lumps gone out of my freshly applied polish.
Remember The Worst Witch series of books? Remember Mildred? Well, sometimes I think that I’m quite like Mildred. Just even less elegant and clumsier and more accident prone, which is why I rely on fast drying top coats to get my polish dry before I manage to ruin my manis.
Fortuitously, a bottle of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat, €5.93, had winged its way to my desk. It made lots of exclamation heavy promises like “Dry ANY nail colour in 30 seconds!” and “Out the door in a flash!” and, yep, it is pretty good stuff.
It’s super shiny and does leave polish touch dry in half a minute – provided just two thin coats of colour are used, they’re allowed to dry between coats, and you wait two minutes before applying the top coat. Otherwise it still takes 15 or 20 minutes for everything to really dry, and it’s for that reason I’ll likely replace my Seche Vite – it can be lobbed on atop multiple thick coats of colour that have been applied in quick succession and dry the whole lot in moments.

Seche Vite is fantastic – I got it in November and it’s very good. Unfortunately, I managed to drop it and smash the bottle over Christmas. I’ve been trying some more budget-friendly top coats since but they don’t compare so I gave in last week and ordered another bottle on ebay.
Marquise: – I agree with you. Only got Seche Vite last week but already an ardent fan. Nothing i’ve tried previously comes close. The quick dry is fab, along with the super glossiness. Amazing stuff.
The red packaging on the one above is sophisticated looking though.
Mildred – I loved Mildred!
Need to get a bottle of Seche Vite. Stickey manis still not working for me, left hand fine but right hand looks like its been through the shredder. Maybe setting the whole lot with Seche Vite might help.
daiseeboo, I thought it was just me with the Sticky manicures. I did one Saturday and loads of chips Sunday – total state Monday. I was blaming the polish though not the maybelline top coat I used…hmmm
Think I’ll try it again with a different polish and see how I go.
Hey laydeeees…
I used this a few times and it’s quite good, did a mani on Thursday last week and it’s only just after chipping a bit on the right hand…..
Question though, where do you gals get the sticky base coat? and is it better than seche vite perchance?
I must try the Seche Vite, sounds great!
I’m on my second Stickey Mani & so far so good. I got 6 days out of the first one before my first chip (left index nail…) using Essie’s Angora Cardi. Last night I did the second one with Essie’s Sexy Divide (god I love this colour).
I buy all my polish from http://www.transdesign.com including the Stickey & Seche Vite – if you buy 9 bottles which is very easy to do
, it works out at just over €5 a bottle incl. shipping.
Babaduck where do you keep all your nail polishes??
In my Estee Lauder Blockbuster vanity case! I’ll take a pic & stick it on the forums (it also acts as a handy laptop stand!!!)
yeah take a pic!! Dying to see!
It’s there in the Beauty Booty section!
Good woman!!
Sweetie1 – I tried it with a Bourjois colour this time which I know is not the best brand in the world but I would normally get 2 full days out of it without the Stickey and if I’m lucky 4 with only minor chips. Put it on on Sunday night with loads of time to spare so that I could do it properly and on Monday morning started chipping. Think I will have to invest in some better quality colours.
Seche Vite is definitely my HG topcoat. I’ve tried various Sally Hansen ones over the years but the manicure just doesn’t go the distance.
Come payday tho’ I am going straight on Transdesign, dying to have a go of the Stickey!
Thanks Babaduck, will have to take a look at that site then!
Can’t remember if it was you or Glamazon I was discussing the beloved BB Chrome with before Christmas but I got mine in the post 2 weeks ago, swoon! If it was Glamazon I was on to, sorry for boring you!! hehe
I have a bottle of this Sally Hansen top coat at the moment and it’s good but SV definitely beats it.
Yesterday I applied regular top coat (CND Shiney, sister of Stickey) and then SV on top of it and so far no chips. (My job usually means 24-hour manis).
Next time I’m trying the Stickey sandwich though!
Seche Vite is indeed a miracle of great miraculousness – Seche Restore is also a wonderful thing. It’s a little bottle of all the stuff that evaporates out of Seche Vite leaving it gloopy; you can restore your half-used bottle to its former glory, to make sure you use it all up! (I have also given in to buying a biiiiiig bottle of Seche Vite, since I figure it’s wonderful enough I’ll keep wanting to use it.)
Jenny, have some Seche Restore on my shopping list – have an older bottle of gloopified Seche too that I meant to buy it for but it was just handier at the time to buy a new bottle
Hey please dont think I am being silly but I have never heard of Seche Vite or Stickey before I joined this site ( week four now) but I notice it pops up most days on here
who make this product????????????????????????????????
Also can you please tell me where in Dubln can these be purchased
THanks
Product J – search! There are posts about both products will full details, just use the search bar over on your left (or the seche vite link above)
Kirstie
thanks for the tips
still getting used to this site.. I seem to wish my day away to get home and have a catch up
Stickey sandwich doesnt work for me either!
I used the stickey, 2 coats of boujois grey polish(I know not the best),one coat of stickey and then finished with the seche vite.
Is this right?I had whole sections just peeling off on day 2!:(
Thanks for switching me on to the Seche Vite – picked some up in Boots as I’d invested in some Chanel Particuliere (payday
). Anyway its tremendous stuff – how could I have missed it?
