Despite the fact it’s got the detestable Chris Tucker and the heinous-to-the-maxXx Lee Evans in it, I have a huge soft spot for the Fifth Element. In fact, it’s safe to say, along with Bladerunner (also top-notch for replicant-tastic beauty), it’s one of the films I can happily watch on endless repeat – though here’s a warning against the BluRay release of the latter: unless you enjoy endless lens-flare effects and ropey 3D carry-on, it’s not really worth ditching your old VHS/DVD for.
One of the reasons for my love of the Fifth Element is the styling: Gaultier-tastic, the whole business of beauty is well catered for too – Leelo’s Chanel makeup box and Zorg’s secretary’s fancy mani-changing gadget are two things I know I’d love in my makeup kit. Imagine! Perfect smokey eyes every time! Winged cat flicks at the click of a button! Uber-professionally applied concealer and brows of perfection! The dream!
Sure you couldn’t say no. But if Chanel were to make these magic makeup boxes then please Uncle Karl, can they be set less to stun, and more to stunna?

At the time True Romance came out, I absolutely loved the styling of the Patricia Arquette character. So trashy but cool! Even to this day I have a thing for electric blue bras because of that film
I like trashy! Trashy’s a-ok by me
Me too – can happily watch this again and again. Willis at his finest!
I really want the mani gadget, I always manage to mess up part of my nails.
Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction – she looks awesome! Love the bob!
Oh I second the Alabama Worley look. Love that film and her style – I even walked up the aisle to the theme tune from true Romance
I
ahem
kind of fancy bruce willis in it…
Kirsty, there is no need for that kind of talk! I’m eating my lunch and BLEH.
Oh I love bruce! Love this movie too!!!
This is really tame compared to the Fifth Element, True Romance and Pulp Fiction…but the one beauty purchase I made directly as a result of a film was my Clinique Lipstick in Ambrosia (kind of a sparkly peach) after seeing Devil Wears Prada. I realised I had the same colouring as Ms. Hathaway and dug her fashionista makeover complete with peach lips. I never would have considered that colour before, and glad I did!
I get very inspired by any Cameron Diaz look really. I love when she goes natural, and always try to re-ccreate it. Even when she dons a bit of eyemakeup, its still mimial & looks great. I’m terrible with eye make up, so I love when the girlies go au naturel cos its a trend I can actually follow…. makes me feel less hopeless!
I always loved the glamour and poise of Lana Turner in Peyton Place. Actually love all of the old Hollywood legends like Lauren Bacall, Betty Grable, Audrey Hepburn etc.
When I was a teenager I wanted to be Kelly Le Brock in either of her Lady in Red or Weird Science roles. Always looked beautiful.
And I also loved Lori Singer in Footloose…loved her simple country style of red cowboy boots and jeans.
So nothing even remotely edgey for me!
Don’t know about film… but what about the video Freedom by George Michael? I wanted to glow like those supers, amazing makeup artistry!
I love Bladerunner as well. I really love Salma Blair in Hell Boy – love her ‘tude and her look
I love Donnie Darko as well but not sure that i took any beauty inspiration from it as such but just love the film
OOOH I love, love, love the Fifth Element, gimme Bruce in a vest any day!!!!
I just love the look of the whole movie……
It just has to be The Women (the 1939 one not that abomination of a remake). The STYLE, the clothes and the Women in question are not ashamed to take care of themselves. Razor sharp dialogue too. I can watch and dream of hats!
