Ask & You Shall Receive – Dermalogica

by Kirstie, March 9th, 2007 in Ask, and you shall receive, Skincare |

dermalogica products

We get asked all the time about Dermalogica products – what to use, and where to buy. To most people, Dermalogica is a bit of a beauty buzzword that equates to excellence. We hear such great things about their products all the time and of course, we want to try them out as a result.

But a word of caution before you do – be aware that Dermalogica is a prescription skincare brand, and what this means is that in order for you to get the best results from their products, you absolutely need to be advised by a trained beautician or a therapist first as to what you actually need. To draw a parallel, you wouldn’t prescribe yourself antibiotics, now would you?

In addition, their products are designed to work in sympathy with each other, and using the wrong ones will not work for you. So while it’s really tempting to skip the diagnostic phase and go straight to Strawberrynet, don’t. Book yourself a facial in a reputable salon such as Sanas or the Buff Day Spa, where I’ve had two face mapping sessions done myself. You’ll be told exactly what’s right for you, and at that point you can go off and buy what they recommend at cut prices!

Dermalogica is just the biz am totally in love with it at the moment. LOVE all the products, they work really well and smell divine. The perfect mixture of natural ingredients and science.

Do definitely get the skin mapping first though – some salons do it for a small charge and let you redeem the money off products but maybe this is just the one I go to.

  • Ro says:

    where do you go glitter?

  • glittergirl says:

In Navan Ro but there are so many salons that do it – where are you based???

  • Ro says:

North Dublin, theres a salon in swords that does it but I was just checking if you’d been there! I’ve been meaning to book a dermalogica facial for a while now but things just keep coming up, hopefully i’ll get there before the year is out!!!

  • glittergirl says:

What’s the salon Ro? Is it Escape???

  • Ro says:

    Yeah, i’ve never been…have you?

  • Ms Ingle says:

I thought I should at long last post about my trip the Dermalogica salon in Santa Monica, LA and this seems like as good a place as any.
I had probably THE most incredible facial of my life in their little pods with soothing music and mood lighting. Unfortunately I lost the bit o paper where the lovely woman wrote down all the blissful stuff she did to my visage. So I’m useless. Sorry. But I just want to say here that since I’ve been using only Dermalogica products people have commented on how much my skin has improved. I now use their cleanser, face wash, soothing booster, spray toner, skin smoothing moisturiser and intensive care eye cream every morning and night. I also use two different exfoliators, their little finger pouch exfoliators are amazing. This regime – Look Ma! I have a regime! – only takes a few minutes believe it or not. So in conclusion, Dermalogica saved my skin. But make sure you go to a Salon and get face mapped first. (Dublin based ladies: Free Spirit in the IFSC has a lovely therapist called Jacinta who I would recommend)

  • Ms Ingle says:

PS – Their new range of skincare products with sun protection is only gorgeous too
PPS – No I’m not on some kind of commission. I just HEART Dermalogica

  • Admin says:

    wonderful! thank you Ms Ingle!

  • glittergirl says:

Oh Ms.Ingle I heart it too!!!!!

and Ro I haven’t been but a friend has and she seems to like it.

  • cathyfly says:

Ms Ingle i am delirra to hear you have found a suitable eye cream! Did the Clinique one you wrote about recently not work out? ;)

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream is my favourite moisturiser ever. It does what it says on the tin folks. But why oh why could they not make it with an SPF??

  • Fletch says:

I’ve booked a Dermalogica All Inclusive Facial with Bellisimo in Galway. It includes a back massage, but I’m not sure what else! Any ideas anyone? Going to see David O Doherty that evening so should be a good day!

  • Aphrodite says:

Hi Fletch – you’ll be getting face mapping anyway – that’s brilliant! Let us know how your get on!

  • Fletch says:

I got on wonderfully, an hour and a half of bliss! The back massage was really soothing, I hadn’t realised how knotted my shoulder muscles were. I was relieved that my skin wasn’t in a dreadful state (you know when you start to convince yourself that your pores are getting bigger and that your forehead’s creases are getting deeper?). She did pre-cleansing, cleansing, steaming, extraction, facemask, a spritz and moisturising as far as I know- I was very relaxed especially with the neck and shoulder massage and head massage.

Bellissimo (Terryland beside Woodies) was really nice, the fact that they’re open on a Sunday was a real plus. There’s also a coffeeshop there if you need a snack after all your relaxing.

    I definately recommend it! :)

  • kylie says:

any suggestions for dermalogica for spot prone skin?

  • Aphrodite says:

Hi kylie – The Anti Bac cleanser gets rave reviews for clearing up spots

  • michelle says:

Dermalogica precleanse is a good start. I use Antibac skinwash, but for some I’ve heard it can be a bit harsh. The precleanse is oil based and cleans the pores deeply. The medibac range will be out later this year. I can’t wait to try a skin kit!
