Francois Nars has been all about the provocative shade names for his cosmetics for quite some time now (Orgasm blush, anyone?), so it should come as no surprise that he has decided to relaunch his base makeup collection as “The Immaculate Complexion”. Central to the collection are two new foundations – Sheer Glow and Sheer Matte.
Sheer Glow is a satin-finish foundation with sheer, buildable coverage which gives a luminous finish and is ideal for normal to dry skintypes. Sheer Matte is an oil-free formula with a soft, matte finish which helps to control shine for normal to oily skintypes. Both products promise to deliver softer, smoother skin and to brighten the complexion and improve radiance with regular use.
I’ve been trying out both foundations and must say that both are very wearable on my normal to dry skin. I’d probably be more likely to wear the Sheer Glow in cooler weather when my skin is drier and the Sheer Matte in summer to keep shine at bay, but Sheer Glow is not overly illuminating and Sheer Matte is not at all dry or mask-like on my skin.
Both have a creamy formula which is easy to apply and blend and a little bit of foundation goes a long way, so these should also last quite a while, which is good news for bank balances. If (like me) you like a sheer finish to your foundation, then these two products are ideal, but they also allow you to build up coverage as required, so they are very adaptable.
Available now from Brown Thomas priced at €34.

Wow – €34 is really reasonable for NARS! I had been using their oil-free foundation for just a little over a year up a month ago or so when I switched to a Bobbi Brown one – the NARS one I used to use was €42 though, so yay to a €12 price reduction I say! Definitely agree with you Xgirl, they do last ages!!
now.. when you say you can ‘build up’ coverage..
how much work is there in putting on a good night time ‘mask’ as opposed to just lashing on 2-3 squirts for daytime?
for instance.. i’m liking my dior nude at the moment, but am nearly out.. how does coverage compare?
btw.. i am v excited about this!!
I too am excited about this. The first time in ages ive been excited about a new foundation. Will have to trek up to BTs at some stage to have a look.
i wonder are there many shades available? They sound fab! Everyone loves foundation!……………don’t they?!
Why oh WHY aren’t NARS in Cork
Razzle Dazzle – I couldn’t live without it…
yeah it’s gas when peope talk about their desert island must-have they always say vaseline! bulls***!
I have been using NARS and the oil-free foundation. It suits me and my complexion. The price is not that bad. Great review.
I’m hoping the €34 price info is reliable – I know I was a bit surprised to see that too.
Regarding shade range, there is the usual wide range of shades available.
And as for coverage, I can’t compare it to Dior Nude as I haven’t used it, but I’d put it on a par with Armani Luminous Silk if that helps?
Razzle Dazzle – Well I can’t leave the house without my 8hr cream so that would have to come to the Island with me as well
yeah thats true….. 8hour was my must have when i was travelling.
Oh god – i may be *forced* to purchase one of these. But which one??? Ohhhhh, the dilemma …
Xgirl – are the colours the same as the current NARS foundations? I used to use ‘Barcelona’ and really liked the colour.
Jenni, they’re using all the same shade names in this range (with a few darker ones added from what I can see), so I think they should be comparable. If you look on the US website, they described which skintone each shade is suitable for: http://www.narscosmetics.com/Sheer-Matte-Foundation-C548_makeup_7.aspx
Excellent, thanks Xgirl – can’t get over how cheap they are!
xgirl – yes, I changed it as I had 2 separate mails from nars saying €34 was the price; meant to email you, sorry!!
Brilliant news, Kirstie, I had seen that price somewhere and just assumed it was a typo as the other foundations are priced at €44 online. Good on NARS if they’re moving with the times
I’ve tried the Sheer Matte and I thought it was really good. Nars seem to be very good about giving out samples of foundation, btw – me and my friend were just mooching around the counter in a very non-committal way when we both had lovely samples thrust upon us. It’s great to get a chance to wear it all day before committing to a purchase.
xgirl – I think I’ll triple check, sometimes a € replaces a £!
anyway I am also using sheer glow and BLOODY LOVING IT.
Have used Dior Nude and Nars Sheer Glow and Sheer Matt (both in Barcelona) – def prefer the Nars to the Dior – am having an affair with Armani at the moment as I find the coverage a little better but I am having havoc with my skin so am just playing around a little. Plan to go back to Nars when things are back to normal!
I am also adoring the new armani uv foundation. gorgeous stuff and must blog about same next week.
tried nars foundation in mont blanc when i got makeup done in bts, its nice, am currently in love with bobi brown skin foundation though, and have two bottles to finish plus a smashbox tinted moisturiser before i can buy new foundation!
Hi all. I work in BT and the foundations are priced at €39. I use Mont Blanc Sheer Matte and I think the price is still a nice saving compared to the old price of €44…..just wanted to clarify this.
Thanks Michelle!
i love the sound of the sheer glow but just wondering is it long lasting, because i used to use armani LSF but found it came off too quickly so im looking for something to compare it too
