Ah, the politics of pubes. I’ve never understood the trend for waxing ones ladygarden to within a millimetre of its life and I reckon the squeamish need to Get Over Body Hair Disgust. We’ve all got it: it’s completely normal. I’m more than happy to embrace a guy (pun totally intended) with a pelt, so I reckon the favour ought to be returned, wha?
Right, rant over. But that was by way of buttering you up for the news: cosmetic surgery group Harley Medical have revealed an interesting new trend: Bush has been ousted in favour of Obama, and now it seems the Brazilian is being supplanted by the Sicilian, a more fully-figured type of topiary.
The latest stats for Harley Medical’s Dublin clinic reveal that eight out of ten gals getting laser hair removal for their bikini line now prefer a little more coverage – a classic V-shape, to be precise. And why is it called the Sicilian? Well, that’d be to do with the fact that its shaped like the home of the Mafia, fact fans.
So what’s brought this about, then? Liz Dale, Director of the group, thinks she has the answer. “Women want a bikini line that will never go out of fashion but always look classic and chic. With a permanent neat canvas to work from, dispensing with the need to battle with unsightly re-growth and in-growing hairs etcetera, women can then experiment with the latest looks with short-term treatments, in the safe knowledge that at the end of the season, they will once again resume the classic Sicilian.”
Sounds like the best of both worlds – what do you lot reckon?

Yay! I am trendy down below. Never been one for ott waxing. Don’t mind the hair at all really. Keeps me warm and snug
LOL a bikini line that is classic and chic, ROFL.
Have to say I agree 100 per cent with your opening paragraph, I have become increasingly annoyed with this all hair off nonsense. I have no interest in looking like a) a child or b) a porn star and massively resent the fact that this has become the norm over the last couple of years.
A bikini line that never goes out of fashion?? WTF – did she have a straight face when she said this? I find the whole waxing it all off very disturbing. With this and the size zero trend women are actually trying to turn themselves into 10 year old girls. And I pray to God this is not what men want becasue that thought is pretty sick don’t you think???
FFS
This is one of the more stupid marketing ploys I’ve seen
And while I am on the rant, I despise these notion that body hair is unhygienic, WTF. It seems to be a very American thing to think, rather like uncircumcised men is gross (sorry for going off topic, but they are mad notions.)
Agree with Redmum, it’s all a load of rubbish. Women should not feel compelled to resemble pre-pubescent girls. Was reading this article in the New York Times about how men are now being made feel inadequate if they have body hair. It’s crap, don’t listen to them boys we love you with hair on your chest!!

yep, I had a big rant in there about the porn industry but took it back out – but it has a lot to answer for in terms of the gap in what some young men expect and the actual reality: wobbles, boobs that droop naturally, and body hair. No wonder so many younger women feel under such incredible pressure.
orlaith – yep, agree, an adult man is hairy, that’s the end of it!
i totally agree with the comments, i like that area tidy but far from all off! thats just part of being a woman.
I have to admit porn/ Jordan influenced or not, when I was in my teens I thought that brazilians/hollywoods were the norm but as I’ve gotten older I don’t think that most Irish men really expect this.
By the by, my boyf has a completely hairless chest and this really bothers him!
Yup, I never understood the shaving it all off thing either, it’s a bit porn star-ish. It’s just wrong and unnecessary. And the whole fashionable bikini line thing…. OMG, who cares, unless you work in the industry?!
Jaysus – who’d want a big bald eagle?
a big bald eagle!
COMMENT OF THE WEEK!
Kirstie – at the end of the year you should have a “Comment of the Year” award.
What a load of pants!! I work in marketing and even I find that utterly ridiculous!!!
I have to say that I don’t mind being waxed but it’s more of a tidy up than getting the whole lot off…more like a trim around the edges ! Some of the comments are hilarious !
Ladyelle – well, a little trim around the edges is ok, often even necessary, esp if you’re like the girl in the smack the pony sketch, hehee (this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn26VBFMKt0)
Jaysus I wish someone’d told me this before I got it all lasered off! No, kidding, I am lasering a Brazilian but not going very far so I’m happy.
Kirstie you should’ve run with the porn rant – or check out rageagainstthemanchine.com for anti-porn views that are ridiculously intelligent. Probably not suitable for work just because she’s not shy about the curses…
Laughing at ur comments! hilarious… Although I like being tidy and neat down there , I hate when some therapists go a bit ott and feckin leave me with bruises or sunburnt skin that takes aaages to heal!!!! also get very spotty and it just looks ugly:(
I was kicked out of a salon once for wailing so much during a wax.
So, eh, I buy a lot of Immac now.
RE: hair down there, never liked it even as teen so as soon as the laser thing came out @ sam mccauley’s i was first in for it!! No regrets 8 yrs later. If you’re left w/bruises or with a rash the therapist is doing it wrong!! First time I got a brazilian in nue blue eru in dublin, they used strips!! SO wrong! Needs to be one of those waxes that goes on & comes off when it’s cooled.
The one time I had a Brazilian (from Urban Wax) I wound up with bleeding, pimply chicken skin for weeks (not their fault, guess I was just too sensitive). Cleared up only for about a week before the hair came back. Worth it for the 60-some odd euro it cost and half hour of extreme pain (plus weeks more of soreness)? Hell, NO. Never again. Back to razors for me.
Brazilian, Sicilian; what’s next Mongolian??? And after attempting laser on the underarms – which didn’t take (natural blonde, hair too fair) – the thought of letting a laser anywhere near my ladybits makes me feel faint!
I think a “porn wax”* on light skinned women looks like a baby mouse, all pink and hairless. Why would that be considered sexy?
*(brazilian is just a marketing term to mask the origin of this nonsense)
After my last wax in my favourite salon, I was left with a lopsided bikini line. And the ingrown hairs were a nightmare. I am definitely getting it lasered when I have the moola!
got waxed in the airport salon recently- it was a strip wax-owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.never again, back to waxperts for me!
