I’ve been having a gander the new Pure Active line of zit-zappers from Garnier, which includes products that sebum- and spot-prone gals will like. It’s difficult to find decent – read, non-harsh – products for oily, pimple-prone skin at this end of the market, so this is a welcome launch. While there’s alcohol in the mix, it’s mitigated by their Herbasooth complex, derived from blueberries.
There are products for washing, scrubbing, toning and moisturising, and one that looks very like their existing green Eye Roll-on, which I like because of its gadget-tasticness. Not too sure if it actually does anything, but how and ever. The new blue roll-on is called Pure Active Spot-on Roll-on, and it’s designed to be a targeted treatment for pimples.
But given the fact it contains 2% salicylic acid, I got me to thinkin’. This is the stuff that’s in products you use to tackle the ingrowns you can get from waxing, shaving or epilating, and while I’m not sure if the concentration in this product is high enough to tackle the bikini line, what I do know is salicylic acid is really effective at treating ingrown hairs as well as spots. That’s because it’s capable of exfoliating deep down, so it can help to clear gudge and guck out of follicles, and it’ll also dry out wet, infectedy areas like whiteheads.
Fancy trying your luck and seeing if it’s up to both jobs? Pure Active Spot-on Roll-on is available now for €10.49 – a mite cheaper than the cost of Bliss’ Ingrown Hair Eliminating Peeling Pads, eh?

Kirstie you might be right! I sometimes use the Dermalogica Medicated clearing gel (spot gel) on ingrown hairs sometimes, so this might be a great cheaper option.
The roll on sounds handy too.
Cathyfly – and does it work on them? The dermalogica one, that is? Yeah the rollerball is very handy, PFB Vanish has that and it makes it so easy to apply.
Yep, the Dermalogica one does all right – it’s as good as the PB vanish but I do prefer the idea of the rollerball to dabbing blobs onto one’s bikini line
ha ha!
2% salicylic acid is V V strong for something over the counter! I have a 2% salicylic acid solution on prescription, I’m surprised this is so strong….dunno if I’d trust it…?
I’d warn ppl off this…i dabbed it on two pimples yesterday n over few hours the skin around those was really red n it kept spreading,i figured straight away something wasnt right n didnt put anymore on but today the skin is still noticably red/pink n really really rough dry. can’t believe they’d sell something like tht without putting any sensitive skin or allergic reaction info on it!!no go in my opinion.
Hey, just came across this article and wanted to point something out:
Salicylic acid is very similar to acetylsalicycylic acid (asprin) and can be used to reduce swelling, which is why they use it for ingrown hairs.
yep, it’s said in the post!
does it actually work though ? Because i am a dancer and i get loads of spots because i swet.
x
does it get rid of them fast ?
I bought this over a week ago and the spot has only now disappeared it also didn’t help in preventing new spots from appearing.
im actually having the thing on right now.. i like how it feels cold on the skin when u apply it but it says its suposed to be cooling but its not at all… have had it on for a couple of hoirus and still havnt seen any difference
