I was in Hydro Clinic and was excellent but a bit out of the way for me. XSMENA in Bray is very good and the woman running it is also a nutritional therapist which was really helpful. Def worth checking out

Saggirl - judging on your email address, I have a suspicion that you're Niamh herself? Please delcare your interest if you are, so readers can evaluate your comments based on that.

If anyone is looking for an excellent therapist in the city centre you'll find them at The Hydro Clinic on Georges Street (website above). All the therapists have Diplomas in Colonic Irrigation and the owner, Niamh is a Naturopath and 4th year herbalist. The dietary and supplement advice is an education in itself. I have had colonics in other clinics which were good, but I always undid them quickly with my bad diet. Using a photo of my eye (Iridology) , Niamh was able to pinpoint and address my underlying blood sugar imbalance which was causing me to eat all the wrong (junk) foods and also advised me on what minerals to take to get to the root cause of my long-term constipation. She uses herbal extracts during the treatment which really helped with the cramping that I usually experience. I feel much healthier now than I ever have and am a devout fan of The Hydro Clinic, and it's such a handy location, right in the city centre! One parting piece of advice, you really do need to do at least three to see long term benefits as it takes more than one to fully clean the colon.

I spent some time in Spa Samui in Thailand in 2005 fasting and undergoing colonics every day.. (two a day and self administered using 16 gallons of water and coffee - the expression "wake up and smell the coffee" was never more poignant)..I think a colonic now and then can give you a sensation of being "cleaned out" but I'm unconvinced of its merits on an ongoing basis. Like everything else, if you eat a proper diet then your body knows precisely what to do with the waste...It's also ridiculously expensive here for something (if you really are that interested) can be self administered with a small bit of training and a tiny budget - I managed 14 of them with ease..One of the delights of self administering is that you really get to experience up close and personal the impact at one end of what you put into your body the other (I should stop now shouldn't I? lol)

ps I blogged the Spa Samui experience here if anyone wants the gory details!
