The Nail Doctor Dry it You’ll Like It

nail doctor

I was whining away there recently about pesky manicures taking approximately one million years to dry and how I’m frequently let down by the salon experience for precisely that reason – layering four-to-five coats of gloop, one on top of the other, is no recipe for a fast-drying result. I’ve ruined many a €20 treat as a result but recently remembered about a product I’ve had in my stash a while, but kept forgetting to, y’know, actually use.

It’s Nail Doctor Dry it You’ll Like it quick dry drops. You get the bottle with regular cap and a dropper cap with button mechanism. I immediately attached said pipette-top and applied a drop or two to the centre of my freshly-painted-with-Rimmel-60-Seconds-in-Pompous nails. It’s a sparkly purple and it’s loverly. Three coats are really needed with it though as the first is wishy-washy, the second’s definitely improving things but it’s the third that makes all the difference – and that’s why I thought, with that amount of coats plus base on, I’d give Dry it You’ll Like it a whirl.

While it doesn’t dry all the lot to a rock-solid finish it does definitely set the top coat very quickly. You still have to watch out for dents but it’ll take the smudge-fear away quick sharp, so I rate it as a definite success, not to mention a success for a home mani. I’ll definitely be using this again, and you can bag a bottle at Boots stores for around a tenner.

I was checking it out in Boots few days ago but decided to pass. Wrong decision, huh?

I usually paint my nails while watching TV, which is my time guideline. Base coat and first layer – just as the murder happens and Grissom & the team arrive to the crime scene (oh, CSI, where would I be without you?). Second coat goes on after first ads, third (if needed) – after second, and after third ad break – the top coat. So by the end of the episode it is all relatively dry and lovely :)

Oh, got a polish order from Head2Toe last nite, and can I just say I’m in love with China Glaze Atlantis :) Can’t wait to try tjhem all on!!

I’ve been checking out the Nail Doctor range for other products (haven’t decided to buy any yet though) but for fast drying action Seche Vite is the winner for me. I can’t live without it anymore! Did a mani yesterday night (Stickey, Orly Armor, three layers of Revlon enamel in Plum Seduction, Stickey again, THEN Seche Vite…) and not a smudge, dent or sheet imprint today, even though i went to bed about 30 minutes afterwards!

  • Babaduck says:

But is it as good as Seche Vite???

  • Babaduck says:

Stickey on top of colour? Must give that a lash tonight!

  • ceci says:

Excuse my ignorance, but what is Sticky? I use Seche Vite and love it but am intrigued by this Sticky thing!!

  • Kirstie says:

Baba – never tried that seche vite product, sorry!

  • EllieBellie says:

Does anyone else find that while Seche Vite dries super quickly, that nails tend to chip within about 48 hours? Even with base coat and two thin layers of polish??

  • Olaola says:

Baba, I read about it on some nail blog, they call it “Stickey Sandwich” ;) it seriously kept my mani fresh for 5 days with minimum wear at the tips, and that has never happened to me before, ever. Give it a go, might work for you too! Also, SV doesn’t shrink your colour so much if used over Stickey, so I can only recommend it :)

ceci, Stickey by CND (Creative Nail Design) is a basecoat, I find it vert good. Lynnie has reviewed it here on Beaut.ie some time ago and liked it too!

  • Galway Girl says:

Got Stickey over Christmas. Used it under the polish I wore New Years Eve (so put it on last Thursay) and my polish is only chipping today! It was a cheap polish too – usualy only lasts a day!

  • kelly says:

Ellie Bellie I find it chips after about 2 days. I had to use it as a base over xmas as couldnt bring all 28btls of nail varnish on the plane with me & it peeled off that night..love it for drying quick but not exactly long lasting unfort!

EllieBellie, I find the same thing when I use Seche Vite. Even when using the Stickey Sandwich method (CND Stickey basecoat, three thin coats of polish, then another thin coat of stickey) beneath a Seche Vite top coat. Within 24-48 hours my polish doesn’t just chip, but whole sections peel and flake off!

Lately, once my Seche Vite top coat has dried, I’ve been applying a coat of The Nail Doctor’s Nail Hardener over it. By adding this step my polish has been lasting at least three days chip free! And I have to use my nails as tools all the time for work. If I remember to apply a thin layer of TND Nail Hardener every day/second day I can eke a week out of my manicure!

I picked up TND Nail Hardener in Boots when I ran out of my trusty OPI Nail Envy and needed something to stop my thin, brittle nails from peeling. And I must say, it’s just as good. It only costs about 13 quid too, so I don’t think I’ll be shelling out for OPI Nail Envy again!

Must try this Stickey and see what it does, though how far can you go before there is more lacquer than nail! I do think Seche Vite shrinks the colour slightly especially if you do a top-up coat after a few days, I find it great for not chipping.

  • Lynnie says:

lolkat, I find that problem with colour peeling/flaking off happens if I apply any more than two layers of colour, regardless of the base/top coat I choose.

  • lolkat says:

Ooh, thanks Lynnie! I’ll try two thin layers instead of three next time! Though I did find the flaking problem only began when I started using Seche Vite instead of Nail Envy as a top coat… But hopefully less layers will be the answer! Anything that means I spend less time watching my nails dry is fine by me!
