Because I am, as I may have mentioned, quite lazy - I'm wearing my pyjamas as I write, in the middle of the day - I like the idea of longwear lipstick, and not having to reapply. In reality though, they dry my lips out to feck and fade unevenly, leaving an outer rim of colour and the odd pigment patch.
The best longwear lip products I've tried to date are the YSL Glossy Stains and Maybelline's SuperStay 10 Hour Tint Gloss - these both start life as a gloss and fade to a pretty, longlasting stain. Check 'em out here and here.
And now Maybelline have come out with another longwear offering - the SuperStay 14 Hour Lipstick range. "Lips are comfortable, never dry and colour lasts all day", are the promises, and they sound pretty good. The products look pretty good as well - I like both shades I was sent, and the packaging's decent. But here, are they any cop, is the question? And how do they perform against your traditional drying, uncomfortable and sticky feeling longwear lipstick?

Rather well, is the answer. They're still slightly drying and they do feel slightly tacky on the lips -especially just after application. But these issues are far less pronounced than they have been with other longwear lippies so overall, yes, I'm a fan. The colours are lovely, the products feel quite lightweight and comfortable on the lips and yes, they last - obviously not for 14 hours (why do brands make these ridiculous claims?!) but for about half that, which is not bad at all.
I think the texture would probably benefit from a slick of clear balm on top, but that would ruin the velvety, semi matte finish, which is actually very pretty. Just ramp up the lipcare while you wear 'em, maybe invest in a nice scrub, and you'll be grand.
Fancy giving them a whirl? Well the good news is, they're out now! They're priced at €10.75 and there are 11 shades on offer, from nudes to pinks, reds and coral. Will you be checking 'em out?
