Great Lengths Sponsor 'Most Creative Hat' at Dublin Horse Show

The 2015 Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show takes place from August 5th – 9th at the historic grounds of the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) in Ballsbridge, Dublin and is now in its 142nd year. And the one date in particular that we are circling in pink pen on our calendars is Ladies Day, Thursday, August 6th. The day is always a staple in Ireland's social and style summer calendar and this year's is a little bit special.

Great Lengths yesterday announced their sponsorship of the 'Most Creative Hat' competition at Ladies Day in a way that we think is pretty cool. Model Thalia Heffernan was on hand to help announce the news, donning a bespoke headpiece created by leading hair stylist and milliner Michael Leong. But this was no ordinary headpiece.

Judges Pippa O’Connor and Bairbre Power will be there on the day looking for entrants that have put thought, time and effort (actual hair strands not a necessity, we don't all of the skills of Mr Leong) into their hats and headpieces.

But we wanted to get the insider tips for you so we asked Pippa what she likes about Ladies Day and what she'll be looking for on the day. “I am a really big fan of this particular Ladies Day as everyone that wants to enter can enter – over 600 women took part last year and I am hoping we can better that number this year" she said "and on the day I won’t be looking for any particular labels or trends, I’ll just be on the look out for someone that looks stylish and comfortable with their choice of outfit”.

And there is a little something extra happening this Ladies Day. Our editor Andrea Kissane will be joining Great Lengths MD Carol Leo to look for their Best Tressed! All puns intended, they'll be looking for their favourite and most stylish hair style on the day.

We asked the man who knows all about hair, Michael Leong, for his top tresses tips on the day. "Ladies Day at the Dublin Horse Show is all about overstated elegance. If you’re wearing your hair down, make sure that you have lots of volume that will see you through the day. Full beautiful hair will always work wonders for your overall look" said Michael "and if you are wearing a hat to enter into the Great Lengths Most Creative Hat competition then you might like to wear your hair up. Why not try a sleek, chic low chignon either at the back or side. A sure win every time!"

Are you coming along on August 6th? If you have any outfit plans, we'd love to hear them!
