This week we're style crushing (and generally girl crushing) on Keira Knightley, after falling in love with her all over again in 'Begin Again' opposite the equally as likeable Mark Ruffalo.
Whether she's turning heads on the red carpet, or out for a stroll with her husband, Ms Knightley is always immaculately dressed. Ever the example of elegance and class, we don't think we've ever looked to Keira and said 'God almighty, what was she THINKING?!' And so, we take a look at her style files to see what we may learn from the Chanel icon she's become.
- Smokey eyes will always be in
If you've got your eye make-up down to a fine art, and know what suits you like Keira here, then stick with it. If it makes you happy, complements your eyes and all of your ensembles, then there's no point trying to swap over to a bright pink hue when really it's just not your thing. Clearly smokey, sultry eyes will always be in fashion, as demonstrated by the queen of the smokey eye, Keira Knightley.
- Dare to wear flowers in your hair?
You don't actually have to be at a festival, or a 7 year old flower girl or indeed getting married to sport some flowers in your hair. Keep it subtle and perhaps hold this one off 'til you've got a special event to attend. You'll feel all kinds of pretty.
- Floral Fancy
Pair a floaty floral dress, remnicient of something your granny might wear with a pair of wayfarers for an updated look. Keira's a huge advocate of old school style and clearly, can't get enough of such floral femininity.
- Embellishment Envy
Sometimes we all want a little embellishment when it comes to our ensembles but it can be hard to get right. You don't want to be a glistening disco ball, covered head to toe in Swarovskis. But what you can do is keep it subtle like Keira by opting for black. Again, this old classic Hollywood look is very typical of Keira, but she keeps things updated with a simple up do, no fussy frills, and that signature smokey eye.
- It's A-OK to match your eyeshadow to your outfit
Provided it's done right. You don't want to wear a purple dress with two big swipes of bright purple shadow across your lids, but a subtle hand can incorporate some of the shades picked up in your outfit and really work to enhance the overall look. Keira's got it nailed below.

- You don't always need colour
There's a tendency among most of us to panic at the thoughts of going for a nude shade from head to toe. Granted, if you're as white as a ghost you might need a little tan on your skin to warm things up, but you don't always need a bright coloured shoe for a nude dress, or vice versa. Here Keira pairs a very pretty nude dress with barely there shoes and, once again, all eyes are on those peepers.
- Double Breasted
A double breasted jacket is always worth having as a staple part of your wardrobe. Whether paired with a breton top and a pair of casual jeans, as Keira's done below, or layered over a floral dress, they really do go with anything. And the gold buttons, we can't get enough of the gold buttons.
- Sexy slits
Not all slits need to be right at the side, exposing your entire leg from hip to toe. There's something incredibly elegant about Keira's dress here and how it splits in the middle, not too high but not too low. If you're going to expose your pins, best keep things under wraps up top. Keira adds a little Hollywood glamour to this look with a stunning orangey red lip.
- Channeling Chanel
It's no wonder Keira Knightley was chosen as Chanel's leading lady, she exudes elegance and charm in her every move. Here she proves the timelessness of the brand, and the sartorial strength of monochrome colour blocking. The bow on the neckline will add an element of femininity to a blouse in the office, for example.
- The dress is enough
This something we're learning from most of our girl crushes: the art of accessorising. If you're wearing a statement dress as this one below, you really don't need to add anything else to finish the look. A full length dress with a high neck and a striking pattern would just become too much if you threw on a necklace, earrings and bracelets. Less is more, people, less is more.
