NEW! No 7 Stay Perfect Superlight Foundation: Dupe For Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. Review, Swatches, Pics

By Laura | February 14 2014 | 20 Comments

No 7′s new foundation release is very timely. Even though the weather is putting all its effort into squashing the daffodil shoots that I’m almost sure I saw through the sheets of rain blowing into my eyes this week, Spring IS coming.

With Spring comes the shedding of layers of clothing (though not quite yet or it’s hello hypothermia) and of makeup. It feels fantastic to ditch a heavy winter base in favour of something light, sheer and breathable.

The options are endless –  BB cream, CC cream, tinted moisturiser, or light foundation. In general, though, we’re more confident about our skin during the spring and summer months and happier to show it off.

No 7′s Stay Perfect Superlight Foundation SPF 15 is the affordable answer to Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua. If you prefer a light, non-oily base that’s still not quite matte, then this one is for you. It provides sheer coverage, but more than a tinted moisturiser would. Like Vitalumiere Aqua, this is ‘your skin, but better’ in a bottle. As you can see from the photo, I have a nasty blemish between my eyebrows (thanks a lot, period face) and this has really evened out my skin surprisingly well for such a light base.

With the right concealer, any blemish can be hidden. Opting for a foundation with lighter coverage and carefully concealing blemishes is a way to even out the skin without looking like you’re wearing a lot of makeup. If you’re very conscious of your skin, then this might not be for you, but on a good skin day it’s all you’ll need!

The consistency is very runny, but this applies well with fingers, a brush, or a sponge and has surprisingly good lasting power.

I’m wearing one of the foundation’s fourteen shade in Calico, which is about a shade too deep for me. I usually mix it with a white foundation to customise the shade, but I’m wearing it here as it is to give you a good look! There is a match in the range for most skin tones, and this will work for all but very dry skins.

At €18.95, it’s not as affordable as some other pharmacy brands, but it’s also far more affordable than Vitalumiere Aqua, which comes in at €38 and has a narrower shade range.

No 7′s foundations have really improved in the last couple of years, and provide high end brands with some strong competition.

Will you be trying this one? Or would switching brands make you feel like Chanel’s cheating girlfriend?

I was eyeing this up in Bootes recently, but decided t hold off till spring/summer time when I tend to go for lighter coverage.

  • Nomes says:

I use the normal No7 Stay Perfect foundation, the medium coverage one and find it fantastic as well, will definitely look into this. Looks lovely on.

This looks lovely Laura….but am I the only person who doesn’t change her foundation ever? Not for different weather or nights out or anything…..*looks around furtively and runs away*

    • G says:

Nah. I do get why you might need one for Summer and one for Winter, but Spring and Autumn are only in-between seasons with less severe variations of their weather, so it makes no sense to have one for ALL four seasons imo.

My night out foundation is only different because I tan for nights out, so it’s obviously darker. And I might use a touch darker concealer, but that’s it. Universal powder is a wonder :)

It just depends on your skin – if it behaves itself, then you can stick with the one thing that works. Mine misbehaves- frequently! So I switch up the formulation when it’s oilier/dryer etc.

I purchased this two weeks ago and I absolutely love it. Goes on so easily and evenly and feels so light on my skin. I’ll definitely be keeping this on my holy grail list for a long time.

  • Eve says:

Ah I used to love Vitalumiere but then it just stopped working for me so I switched to Double wear light which i love but the combination of having to buy two shades and mix them to get the right match for my skin and going through the bottles so quickly made it far too expensive to sustain. Recently I tried the Bourgeois 1 2 3 perfect foundation (just because I wanted to get the free eyeliner) and let me tell you this – it is the closest match for a higher end foundation I have EVER encountered on the highstreet! It’s almost identical to Double wear light! FAB!
But I might try this and see if I can rediscover my love for vitalumiere.

This is a really excellent foundation – I was SO impressed. It has the nerve to act as though it’s one of the luxe brands

  • Aoife says:

This looks fab, I’m having a bad skin quarter (this weather is just killing me) but I’m on the way to getting my nice, normal, not teenage skin back- Thank God for Effaclar AI. As soon as I don’t need a fuller coverage foundation I’l be trying this!

  • G says:

Would diluting this foundation with the (presumably richer) Face Atelier Zero Minus not defeat the purpose of it being a Chanel dupe and superlight?

I wish I could get away with superlight, but my redness wouldn’t allow it!

  • Polly says:

I really wish Boots would do a lighter colour than Calico, I’m not sure what the undertone is with Calico – it’s like it has a touch of black or brown something? I love their Stay Perfect foundation but can only wear it if I’m wearing a scarf to cover my white neck!
