Well I wasn’t expecting that! Ever been surprised by an unlikely crush?

A funny thing happened when I went to see Les Misérables in the cinema last weekend. Everything was ticking along nicely, Anne Hathaway was an utterly devastating Fantine, Hugh Jackman was his usual ridey self, once he cleaned himself up and sorted his hair out and Samantha Barks sang her heart out while appearing to have the tiniest waist of all time. (Seriously it’s astonishingly small, like, it looks smaller than her head.)

Meanwhile, Russell Crowe was stomping around the place doing a better-than-I-expected job as Javert, wearing a series of very nice and fancy uniforms and generally doing his villainous thing. But then Javert went undercover to sneak behind the barricades and it suddenly hit me. I fancied the Valjean-chasing PANTS off Russell Crowe in this film. This was quite a strange thing for me, as I had genuinely never seen the attraction in all the years he’s been famous. Maximus Decimus Meridius could jog on as far as I was concerned, because I was not buying what he was selling.

Watching a behind the scenes special about the making of the film only served to confuse me further. Russell sitting in a chair and being interviwed about his character? Nothing. Russell as Javert singing at some French people on screen? Well HELLO RUSTY, right this way, no pants required.

So it appears that I only fancy him in this one particular role and nothing else, which does seem to be ridiculously specific of me. However, it’s now got me wondering what other people’s unlikely crushes are. Have you ever had a sudden attraction take you by surprise, when normally you wouldn’t look twice at the person in question? And if so, what was it that made you change your mind?

haha Kitty welcome to the Russell Crowe fancying club! HOW you didn’t fall for him in Gladiator is beyond me.

But sometimes it’s the role they’re playing and that character that makes you suddenly go – I get it. I never thought much of Daniel Craig before Bond – and now I practically have his posters on my wall.

If someone can explain the mass appeal of Ryan Gosling to me I’d appreciate it – I just can’t understand it

Ah Aisling, I’m right there with ya – the “appeal” of Ryan Gosling is lost on me.
As was the appeal everyone had for Russell Crowe back in the Gladiator days. I just didnt get it. The pics of him above could be of two different men.

I do have a real LOVE for Kevin Bacon that most others cannot fathom. Did you not see Footloose?!

Also don’t get the Ryan Gosling thing. Last guy I dated was asking me about celebrities I fancied and said “I bet you’re a Ryan Gosling girl” What does that even mean? I was very offended. Much more of a Paul Walker girl mmmmmmm *hastily wipes drool off keyboard before anyone sees it*

ah Russell Crowe in Romper-Stomper yum.I never liked David Duchovny in the x-files but developed a crush on him when watching Californication

  • bsharp says:

But haven’t you seen Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love??

For me, About a Boy was the turning point for Hugh Grant…without the floppy hair he was much more fanciable :)

  • Fee says:

Ryan Gosling – just watch The Notebook to see what all the fuss is about ;-)

Im in love with Leonardo DiCaprio since Shutter Island. Never liked him in Titanic. Floppy hair does nothing for me and he is DEFinitely getting better with age.
Also Joseph Gordon-Levitt the kid from 3rd rock. Have you seen him all grown up in a suit?! rawr ;)

Needless to say I really like Inception lol
