It was cute, it was colourful, it was fresh: it was deservedly worthy of its style icon status.
Was. This I know will sound like blasphemy to some of you but I have to say it.
I need to say it.
I am SO SICK of that friggin Orla Kiely Multi Stem print, it’s everywhere. It started out with the handbags and now it threatens to take over the world as Orla Kiely has liberally stuck it on every feckin thing you can think of.
Deep breath: shower gel, scented candles, wallpaper, notebooks, Kindle covers, mugs, cushions, brollys, iPad cases, rugs, throws, casserole dishes, duvet covers, plates, bowls… sorry I nodded off there.
It’s a testament to how well she’s done and how mindbogglingly popular this print is, but I’m overwhelmed by the whole thing now.
Visiting a certain town recently I noticed that – seriously I’m not exaggerating – every second woman was sporting an Orla Kiely bag. Only yesterday I was out and about when I noticed a woman with a Multi Stem patterned bag in a shop. She removed her Multi Stem purse to pay for her purchase and then juggling her mobile phone with its Multi Stem cover she hurried out to her car while PUTTING UP HER MULTI STEM UMBRELLA!
Could she then have driven home to affix a Multi Stem apron to her person and prepared dinner using the multitude of Multi Stem cooking equipment available? And relaxed afterwards under her Multi Stem duvet while drinking from a Multi Stem mug of tay?
You see, I could make up a whole world for this woman and invent a life for her purely based on Multi Stem products.
I wonder does it become a self perpetuating cycle? People see you with one Multi Stem item and then assume that you must love ALL Multi Stem stuff and keep buying it for you? A bit like the problem you face if you have cats – people will forever be buying you things with cats on them
It’s a knotty issue. Let us resolve it!
