Celebrity style crushes: My current top four faves. Who are yours?

By Lynnie | April 18 2013 | 24 Comments

Over the weekend, I was asked what celebrity’s style I rate. “Alexa Chung?” offered someone, whereupon I engaged my mouth in uttering an opinion that involved the word “overrated” before my brain had copped either the hopeful intonation in my questioner’s voice or the fact that she was wearing a dress with a Peter Pan collar.

That’s kinda hard to come back from.

It got me thinking about celebs whose style I do admire, though. Here’s who’s on my radar right now…

I can’t bear scripted reality shows like Made In Chelsea, but I’d nearly watch it on mute just to see what the Quality Street heiress is wearing. Nearly.

While every interview I read or hear with her sets my teeth on edge a little since she’s so hell bent on projecting her personal brand at all times, I am a big fan of her threads. It’s rare for me to spot Olivia Palermo in something that I wouldn’t like to change into immediately.

The former editor of Russian Harper’s Bazaar, Mira is one quarter of a gaggle of fashionistas that has been branded “the new Russian mafia.” As a fellow shortarse, I really enjoy seeing how this petite lady works her eclectic, often larger-than-life wardrobe choices without ever looking swamped.

Technically I should give the style kudos on this one to super stylist Petra Flannery, who is behind the star’s amazing red carpet and public appearance get ups, but I love that Stone never actually seems overly styled and everything she wears looks like an extension of her personality.

There’s no doubt that I gravitate towards celebs whose aesthetic is broadly in line with my own – I’d love to know if you do the same? And whose style are you crushing on right now?

I also have Millie Mac, Olivia P and Emma Stone on my list. Always look so well put together.
Rosie Huntington Whitely has great style too. And for someone with no stylist I think Blake Lively has had some real stand-out moments.

All of the above are on my list! Also, the wonderfully dressed, and Irish, Angela Scanlon. Love her.

O sweet Lord, with the exception of Emma Stone,I couldn’t pick any of the others mentioned out of a line up!!Actually,I couldn’t pick Emma Stone out of one either,I just got excited because I’ve heard of her before. Is she an actress?What/who are the others?Jebus,I hate old age.Time to admit,I’m not as hip as I thought I was!!Quiet sobbing noises….

  • I used to have a style crush on Emma Stone but she’s been getting skinnier and for some reason that also seems to affect her dress sense, lol… :-) I really like Mila Kunis’s style.

I have to see I would put Alexa on my list! Plus Chloe Sevigny, Michelle Williams and Emmanualle Alt.
I do like Miroslave Duma as well – I love that yellow dress she has on in the picture above.

  • Gwen says:

#1 dita von Teese for her vintage style. Her clothes are always exquisite and her hair and makeup flawless.

#2 Kourtney Kardasian, defo the best dressed of the K sisters. She does both casual and dressed up perfectly. Always looks put together

#3 Jennifer Anniston…even in her 40s still has that girl next door vibe and her understated style always looks stunning and yet attainable

#4 Nicole Ricci…has really stepped it up in the last few years fashion wise and does the boho thing really well.

  • Miss Y. says:

I wouldn’t just like to dress like Olivia P. I wouldn’t mind looking like her full stop.

I would also like to add the following ladies to your list:

    – Kourtney Kardashian
    – Jessica Alba (always looks cute and laid back)

  • EvieM says:

Love Olivia Palermo’s style and Rachel Bilson’s, Taylor Swift or her stylist puts together some pretty nice outfits too. I quite like the way Leighton Meester dresses. I also think Alexa Chungs style is boring.

  • ladyelvis says:

Lynnie agree wholeheartedly with your four ladies! I’d add Angela Scanlon (snap littlesis) and some of Alexa Chung’s recent looks have been inspiring me. Finally, Kate Bosworth is obvious, but always fab. Very accessible looks that can easily be copied!

  • *Aisling* says:

Interesting how many people like Kourtney K – wouldn’t have thought of her!

  • Meg says:

    They’re all very skinny.

I can’t stand that pose they do: toes together, heels apart to emphasise their knock knees and thigh gaps.

Fair play to them but if you stood like that in real life, say in the pub, you’d fall over in about a minute.

  • Sabrina says:

Aimee Song, Olivia P and the Olsen twins. Emma Stone looks unreal in the pic’s above, especially the last one in the red dress.

  • IceQueen says:

Ha meg, I never copped that but you are right!!

  • Shygirl says:

I love Zooey Deschanel. I think shes really cute and quirky!

  • Praxis says:

    Mummypupper I’m with you!
Totally showing my age , but I have a mad crush on Kirstie Wark from Newsnight on BBC. The night I saw her wearing Marni from H&M while discussing the banking crisis my heart leapt a little.

  • Ash says:

I love Millie’s style! :) MIC is my guilty pleasure, so bad it’s good :D
Love Dita and Angela Scanlon too. Saw Angela on telly a while ago and she seems lovely and great craic.

  • PinkPanther says:

Gwen Stefani is still my style crush about 15 years after I first fell in love with her high glamour/tomboy/chola look. Have been loving Jenna Lyons of late too.

Not a fan of Millie Mc, I think she looks really over-styled. Emma Stone is adorable though.

  • Elaine says:

Bilson & Kruger. Always. Even when Diane Kruger wears something weird she somehow pulls it together. I love Rachel Bilson as herself and as Dr. Short-Shorts Hart.

Oh and from an emotional style point (that does make sense, honest) rather than desiring her items, SWINTON. Uncompromising.

That said I get a lot more – and buy stuff I see on – some of the blogs, mainly http://www.atlantic-pacific.blogspot.co.uk/ & http://www.brooklynblonde.com/

  • Roisin says:

I agree with the above mentioned, bar Millie Mac, as the mere sight of her (regardless of the threads) drives me bananas. I’d also have to add Michelle Williams, Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba to the mix, for their street style if nothing else.

  • Aine says:

    Gemma Arterton and Lily Allen
