We’re used to seeing pretty makeup collections from Artdeco – their powder compacts are absolute stunners – but this spring they’ve brought out something that’s a little bit different.
The Makeup Innovation range focuses solely on the skin and comprises a small edit of corrective base products that target a range of complexion concerns.
L-R: BB, primer, concealer
First up, the now ubiquitous BB cream, in two varieties – Skin Perfecting, or Anti-Aging. Both come in two shades, with SPF 15. There’s a hefty price difference between the two – €23.80 for the perfecting version versus €33.40 for the anti-aging cream – so I’d be interested in investigating the difference between the two.
Left: Bare Faced; Right: With Primer
For now though I’ve been trialling the former and quite like it. It doesn’t have that rich, balmy consistency you might associate with a BB; it’s thinner and more fluid, a la the L’Oreal or Body Shop versions. But it does manage to do a decent job in the coverage stakes as you can see from the pics below.
I’m wearing it layered over the primer, which is silicone, fragrance and paraben free so a good pick for sensitive skin types. If you’re very dry or very oily it may not be the best choice for you but if you fall somewhere in the middle then I think you’ll get along with this nicely.
L-R: BB Cream, Concealer Dotted, Concealer Blended
It’s a nice light-feeling primer with some mattifying action and while I didn’t think it did much to my skin on its own, the pictures show that there’s a bit of corrective action going on. It doesn’t have the slip associated with silicone products but it still creates a nice smooth finish. Skin friendly ingredients like vitamin E and minerals are also a bonus and for €20.60, this is actually a very nice makeup base indeed.
Two concealers round out the collection: the light-reflecting Perfect Teint (€17.45) and Anti-Aging with Lifting Effect (€21.65), which in time, promises to regenerate the skin for less wrinkles and a more even skintone. I can’t attest to that but I do think this is a nice, creamy concealer that works well on the under eye area.
