Ah here. BB LIPS from No7. The madness must end

By Aisling | May 20 2013 | 19 Comments

It was only last week that we were talking about the mass jumping on the BB bandwagon by the entire cosmetics industry without any regard to whether those products were, eh, you know actually any good.

“BB Beauty Balms were one of the biggest beauty sensations of 2012″ say No7. ” Now No7 has created BB Lips (€11) which has all the benefits of a Beauty Balm in a luscious lip format.”

No7 BB LIps

Mother of Jaysus.  This is just really wack marketing.  The product is a highly pigmented lipgloss (good) with SPF 15 (good) which comes in 6 shades (good).  So just say that. It’s nice, moisturising and long lasting.

But it is not, or has nothing to do with, BB Creams which are a flipping form of foundation.  In fact – and gasp at this revolutionary idea – I think this may be a coloured LIP balm/gloss type hybrid.  You know, the kind that have been around for the last hundred years or so

I forsee a whole raft of these products a floatin’ down the river though.  I bet we’ll see BB Mascara next.

Meanwhile in No 7 HQ the production of BB mascara has been halted. Word has spread about the phoney bb revolution.

I was bewildered by the name alright when I spotted them in Boots as I agree it is going to far! I would still be tempted to try the as I like tinted lip glosses and lip balms for a less ‘made up’ look…… Meant to buy one before the €6.50 vouchers ran out, but forgot!

BB Lips?! That’s the most unappealing product name ever invented, it conjures up images of pan stick pouts. I’ve no huge interest in BB cream, so you can imagine how I feel about this – also, sticky looking lipgloss = gick.

  • Orla says:

I picked up one of these while I had my vouchers, but didn’t make it out of the shop with it. It was too gloopy for my liking. Instead I picked up one of the high shine lip pencil things and found it much nicer :)

  • ArtDonatella says:

A BB Mascara? Ah don’t be silly, it will totes be a CC Mascara next :).

I love how you tell it like it is, I am so over these BB’s myself, I can hardly open my computer without seeing a BB / CC pop out of nowhere!

  • Eims says:

The BB lips thing is a joke, but its a good enough product actually, bought it with the 6.50 off voucher from Boots, wouldnt have bothered otherwise!

  • EvieM says:

Ridiculous, they’ll slap BB on anything these, you’ll be seeing Bepanthen BB cream soon for babies arses. I’ve no interest in BB Creams, (or the bastardized versions of the original idea that we get over here) and I certainly don’t want BB Lipgloss.

  • Cait says:

The irony is that with a name like that they’re likely to annoy as many people as they appeal to. Marketing madness.

  • Lurganista says:

    ZOMG…..mad ted!!

  • Kat (dollyrouge.ie) says:

    That’s it, I’m on a BB boycott!

  • B says:

Not a fan of gloomy glosses myself but for a range of only 6 colours I must say, they’ve picked some good shades!!!!As for the BB/CC thing, thought I was over it untilOlays crafty marketing team announced in a magazine ad that 10 out of 10 beauty journos thought that it had amazing colour correcting properties and I thought”really? All 10?!!!”So as I figure they’ll be pricy, I’m thinking of saving up and following the trend!
