Ok Coral: Say thanks vermillion for the peach and orange makeup trend

By Beaut.ie | April 12 2012 | 24 Comments

Like the majority of Irish women, I’d give a limb to have a millisecond with any one of Michael Fassbender’s five limbs.  I’d also like to have a pink undertone to my pale skin. When I was younger, I assumed that I should match this tone with pale pink cosmetics. It was only when I friend gave me a peachy blush that I realised how pretty colours in that orangey family are on my typical Irish complexion.

Morange by Mac
At the start of my orange kick, I bought Morange by Mac. Its formulation is creamy and thick, giving a wash of opaque colour that’s comfortable and long lasting. Surprisingly, it doesn’t look too shocking when applied, just fresh and a little different. At 17.50, it’s quite costly but, for me, the quality and unique shade make handing over the cash more palatable.

Gosh Volume Lip Shine
For a more day-time appropriate pop of colour, I plump for Gosh Volume Lip Shine lipgloss in either Juicy Orange or Soft Coral. Its consistency is relatively thin and not sticky, resulting in a fairly hassle free application.

Last of the lip loves is Maybelline’s soon-to-be-released (May 2012) Super Stay 10 Hour Stain Gloss – Emma reviewed it yesterday.  The shade I love  is a warm red with a soft gloss finish.

Nails
From early spring, essence have been releasing a tonne of on-trend polishes at a super pocket-friendly 1.29 per bottle. Essence C’est La Vie is a more muted coral than most others in my collection but it still packs a perky spring-appropriate punch. Gosh Primma Donna is a rusty burnt orange with shimmer that applies incredibly smoothly. I’d give this a go if you’re not the best at painting your nails but still want something bright.

Eyes
When it comes to eyes, I’m all for piling on the colour. Peaches may seem daunting to many but it’s actually very flattering on the common dull mulchy-greeny-grey eyes that I’ve been er, blessed with. Rubenesque Paint Pot by Mac is a golden shimmery coral base that I tend to wear alone, just blended past the socket of my eye. When I want the colour to be more noticeable, I apply Paradisco eye-shadow over it; the shade matches perfectly and functions to increase the intensity.

Will you be braving the brights this spring? Anything above take your fancy?

  • Oh I am in love with all things corally, peachy and orangey at the mo! The orange shadow I picked out for my Inglot palette is one of my favourites, not expected at alllll at all, but it makes my eyes really green and I likey that. Am getting into orange lippies too lately, one of the Lancome Rouge in Love ones is gorgeous, Miss Coquelicot is bright and beautiful and perks me up to no end.

ps pissed myself laughing at Fassbender and his five limbs hahahaaaaaaa

  • Gorgeous oranges, perfect for summer! :) Find they suit me too, and I’m white as a ghost.

Any orange-lovers should check out NYX’s Tinted Lip Spa in Orange Passion too. It’s an amazingly pigmented, gorgeous lipbalm – actually looks more like lipstick on, but is so light and lovely. And ridiculously cheap, a few dollars American on Cherry Culture, around £3.50 UK on Ebay. I love it so much am waiting for payday and am going to splurge on a few more, possibly the nudes. Lovely things they are!

  • I love corals and peaches. I fell in love a few years ago when I bought Bobbi Browns Cabana Corals palette. The colour makes my yeys really green and is lovely with a pasty irish skintone. I used up all of the Bobbi Brown palette, I must find a replacement…..

  • Colours from the orange end of the colour spectrum look great on my blue eyes – peach for daytime, gold/copper/bronze for nighttime.

I heard peach blushers are good for Celtic skintones but I tried a couple of them and found them too, well, orangey. Any recommendations for very fair skin with cool undertones?

  • I PROMISE I’LL SHUT UP ABOUT FASSBENDER’S WILLY.

    Soon.

Moira & Sunshine – Nars Orgasm is lovely. It’s shimmery though, and I find the shimmer can highlight any skin texture issues (if you have any). I’m aching to try Cha Cha tint too, I’d get the Benefit girls to try it on you. Sleek also do super cheap ones and MAC have a great selection.

  • Well, I hate to be a party pooper but I hate all things coral on me… Well, apart from the only blusher I own which is NARS luster and that’s a bit “corally”, but I refuse to wear coral on the lips and nails :-). I much prefer reds and pinks :-).

  • Forgive mevnow if this is an obvious question, but eh, do the orange undertones in the gloss/lipstick not make your teeth look like you’re on 400 fags a day?? Or am I totally off??

  • Lorrrraine – five limbs bwwwwahahahahahaha

I have Benefit Coralista, YSL Glossy Stain in 12 Corail Fauve, and I have Becca beach tint in Apricot which has a coral-ly color also. And I love all of these. Wearing the Becca tint today.

And there is no knowing how many coral -ish nail varnishes I have.

Every top I’ve bought recently seems to be Coral.

    I’m addicted.
