Citrussy scents are a summer staple. As well as evoking blue skies and sparkly sunshine and Mediterranean lemon groves, they’re mood enhancing, don’tcha know? I defy you not to have a smile on your face when you’re using these lemony lovelies.
We’ve raved about L’Occitane’s Verbena range before, so it’s no surprise we love this new variation on the theme. Sorbet Verbena is a limited edition summer release that includes notes of lemon, lime, verbena, grapefruit and mint. Inspired by a Provencal summer treat, it’s just delicious – fresh, zingy and so uplifting. As well as the fragrance, which is €45.95, I have the ‘body ice’ gel, €26.50, and lip gloss, €13.50 – both are mouthwateringly zesty with a gorgeous cooling sensation that’s just perfect for summer.
But if that’s too spendy for you, you could do worse than check out the offerings from Roger and Gallet. We’ve previously tipped the nod to this 150-year-old French brand for affordable, wearable and downright delicious eau de colognes - in fact, I dubbed their Cedrat/Citron variety ‘the perfect spring scent’. They also offer Fleur D’Osmanthus and Bois D’Orange, two further citrussy offerings that are only gorgeous – and at €17, really well priced for what you get. You can also get your hands on fragranced soaps, candles, body lotions and shower foams – check ‘em out in Clerys, or a pharmacy near you.
Another one to check out is the Body Shop’s Sweet Lemon line, which is light and lovely and packed with the oil from lemon pips and peel. There’s loads in the range, from soap at €3.50, lip butter at €5.50 to various body products. They’re listed here and, since we wrote that post, they’ve also brought out a fab sweet lemon beauty oil for €14.95. Our favourite? The sweet lemon shower gel, by a country mile.
Lastly, this Weleda product has been on our radar since Simon Cowell raved about it to Regis and Kelly. Sez he: “There’s no sponsorship deal – I just love it. It’s a lemon milk and it’s the most delicious thing.” It’s the Citrus Refreshing Bath Milk, it’s €11.25 for 200ml and it uses ethically sourced fruits for a refreshing lemony soak.
