Gaultier Reinvents the Dip-Dye Trend for AW12 – But, eh, Would You?

Beauty trends for AW12 keep rolling out as fashion weeks rumble on. The spotlight’s on Paris now and as usual, it’s pulling out all the stops. New York tends to be pretty pared-back beauty wise; London will usually throw up something interesting, a good bit of bonkers slap and fun, Milan I generally tend to bypass and Paris – well, Paris is where it’s at. Nothing like a French runway show to reinvent old standards, inject life into classic beauty looks for yet another season, or just come up with something completely new and innovative.

Here’s a case in point: We’re all well versed in the dip-dye hair trend at this stage – even our own Lynnie got her ends pinked with great success – but Jean Paul Gaultier had to go one better and do the top of the head. Roots and the first few inches were sprayed with colour, the rest of the hair was left straight and sleek and makeup was pared down and fairly minimal to match.

Will it catch on? Is it an on-trend love in for you or is this a classic case of parting is such (sweet) sorrow?

  • Hmmm, not for me!
If you’re gonna dye part of your hair, do the tips (Lynnie’s looked deadly)…
    This looks a bit weird.

  • well this is paint, not dye, so it won’t look exactly perfect. Honestly, i quite like the blue on blonde. I can see it being cute, give the bloggers a month or two and i bet we’ll be biting out tongues!

  • Oh no! It’s so unflattering. The make up is terrible too – it’s so ageing.

  • That’s ridiculous and ugly looking.

And those girls look ancient and filthy too. All of them look depressed beyond belief, about 20 years older than they probably are, their hair is straw like, their skin is terrible, that foundation is a horrible colour on all of them. They really look truly terrible.

I SO don’t get fashion. I don’t get how that’s supposed to be beautiful, or even edgy. It’s plain ugly.

  • I think the Girl with the black hair looks cool! The rest…..just awful!

  • The hair looks greasy and reminds me of that scene in there’s something about Mary. Also the make-up makes their skin look really really bad.

  • No, I do not think it will catch on. The woman with the black hair (bottom left in this post) looks like she has dandruff, or flakes from hairspray. I think this is just an artistic form of expression by the designer or the makeup artists.

  • Not for me but I can see some people trying it.

  • I’m sporting this look as we speak! I have gone for a fetching shade of grey all over the roots and then a very dark brown everywhere else. I’m so on trend!

  • I like it! The blue on blonde is snazzy. Not on a permanent basis perhaps but fun night out stuff for sure. Something new.
