Peridot Approximations & Dupes to Cheaply Calm Chanel Cravings

Polish fans seem to be split into three camps when it comes to the nail edit in Chanel’s forthcoming Illusion D’ombre collection. Some (like me) are intrigued by Peridot, some (like Kirstie and xgirl) are more interested in Graphite, and some are remaining steadfast in their resolve never to buy a (or another) Chanel polish.

Kirstie was first out of the traps with a look at some potential dupes for Graphite away back in March, but if you’re somewhere between liking the look of Peridot and refusing to pay €22 for a bottle of nail varnish, this post is for you.

Now, there’s a reason I’ve used the word “approximations” in the title: duochromes (which seem to shift through different colours as the viewing angle changes) are notoriously difficult to dupe. So instead I thought I’d show you three budget metallic yellow-greens with duochrome flecks that I stumbled across on a recent shopping trip and put me in mind of the murky, mossy qualities of Peridot.

Nail polishes from the Polish brand are 3-free as well as free from camphor, which can be an irritant, and any I’ve tried hit bottle colour in two coats so I wouldn’t expect this pair to be any different.

At a doony €2.95, I could hardly leave this one behind me. I’m afraid that the bottle I got has no name or identifying number on it, which I only realised when I got home, but there isn’t another polish like it on Claire’s stands so you’re in no danger of picking the wrong shade if this one’s calling out to you.

This was my favourite of the three polishes I happened upon and looks more sophisticated than its price tag would suggest.

I love muddy, muted colours like these anyway and the fact that they’re going to be huge for autumn across fashion and beauty truly delights me, but do any of these polishes tickle your fancy?

  • Catrice do one called In The Bronx that’s a sort of greeny-gold colour, my photos don’t really do it justice but it’s quite nice. I don’t know if I’ll shell out for the Chanel polishes, there are so many winter collections that I’ve got my eye on.

  • The Claire’s Accessories one is definitely calling my name.

Sigh… I wish I knew how to paint my fingernails because I love this colour! I only do my toes as I make an absolute hames of my hands and have just given up on them… :-(

I did a bit of DIY and mixed some Mac Pigment in Old Gold with clear varnish, it’s very matte when it dries but you get some of the golden/green duochrome effect. Love a bit of make and do!

I’m interested in the Inglot version. I’ve tried their eyeshadows, but always passed up their polishes before. Maybe I’ll take a trip tp Times Square later on.

    ktatie, that sound intriguing!

I am expecting Carbonite soon (to dupe Graphite) and am now falling for Peridot. I will definitely try it on first though (thank the stars for testers) as duochromes and I don’t usually mix well. I think it is unique enough to buy but will wait to see it IRL. I also have Butter London Wallis on the way so that might satisfy my craving for the muddy green shimmer ;)

Is Inglot considered a budget brand?? It’s just I’ve seen loads of YouTube beauty gurus raving about it, and I think they always made it out to be expensive!

  • Lesley Ann – It’s great value and quality. I remember the palette of ten eyeshadows cost 42 euro this time last year but I believe all their prices went up a bit this spring.

Banjaxed Im useless painting my nails as well but I now I fill a lid with nail polish remover and dip a cotton bud to remove nail policsh when I go “out of the lines” :) I think it works a treat and always leave lots of time to do it, im not joking I give it 30 minutes so I dont smudge but its worth it!

  • Banjaxed says:

Unfortunately Roisin I’ve tried that too. I can manage my left hand no bother but my right hand is a disaster :-(. My 10 year old daughter paints her nails better than I do…
