Hair Mayonnaise Organic Root Stimulator: perfect for afro hair, not so good for mine

hair mayo

I found this one buried on a bottom shelf in Boots, in the teeny section for afro hair, used it and promptly forgot about it until it was mentioned on Twitter by @britbeautyblog the other day.

"Ooooh", I thought spying it, "What is THIS?".

I'm always on the lookout for something new and fabulous and deep conditioners which might mend my overprocessed locks are always worth a whirl.  It's an "organic root stimulator" they claim - now I don't know how that works, but the conditioner binds and nourishes brittle and breaking hair.

It's difficult for black girls to grow their hair because of its tendency towards intense dryness and a good rich conditioning masque can really help.  So it was a bit greedy of me to jump on the bandwagon and hope that it would suit me.

Because it didn't.  It was far too heavy for my gruaig, weighed it down something rotten and I couldn't seem to wash it out properly.  I used it twice and then chucked the tub in the bin

But then guess what?  A few washes later my hair became soft and shiny.  And I think it was all down to the Hair Mayonnaise.  Having said that though, I wouldn't use it again (a) because it's in the bin but really because (b) it was too heavy and didn't suit my hair.

And does it smell like mayonnaise?  Does it scramble on warm hair?  No, don't worry it just acts like regular conditioner.

Now I know it is meant for Afro hair and not for my type of hair at all and from reviews on the Web black girls who have used it love it.

Does anyone else use it?  I know it's very difficult for black women in Ireland to pick up good hair products so it's good to know that this range is stocked by Boots.  There are loads more products - olive oil shampoos and the like - we'd love to hear from anyone who's got good recommendations
