Gone, But Not Forgotten: What Beauty Brands do You Miss?

By Beaut.ie | August 5 2011 | 48 Comments

producys I miss

Tis a sad auld state of affairs when a beauty brand either disappears forever or pulls its distribution from Irish shores. We were pretty feckin’ delighted to see Stila back at Boots in Liffey Valley recently but for every brand that comes back – Shu Uemura’s due in Brown Thomas Dublin at the end of August – there are others that we have to say RIP to, like Prescriptives (sniff), Pout (super-duper sniffle) which simply don’t exist anymore and others like Dianne Brill and Becca which pull out of the Irish market (though you can still get Becca on the Mise Beauty website) leaving us with no easy means to buy.

They’re the ones I miss the most. What about you – got the gra for a particular brand or product that’s no more and which has left you bereft? Tell us all about it in a comment!

  • Illamasqua. For nail polishes, though they were v. expensive…

And does Nue Blue Eriu count? Probably not, but I really miss all the perfumes they carried – nowhere seems to carry the niche ones anymore!

  • I still have some Pout stuff I stockpiled! Have a tiny but of the Plump gloss left and a couple of half lipsticks in a shade called Date Bait. When Pout was leaving BT’s I was in NY so did a bit of squirelling in Sephora

  • Kirstie- I went in2 BT to get it and the girl told me it was to shimmery to be worn as an allover powder.

  • Helena Rubenstein for their foundations :(

  • POUT. MY LONG LOST LOVEEEEEEE *sob* :(

  • Oh Prescriptves and Toni and Tina I loved their glitter eyeliners.

I have a load of Stila powder eyeshadows and blushes bought before Estee Lauder destroyed the brand.

  • Prescriptives *banshee wail* Why? WHY?!

  • There was this Australian brand called Red Earth that I rather liked that went out of business a few years ago. When you guys mentioned Illamasqua I wasn’t sure if you meant Ireland or if they had gone bankrupt or something, so I rushed to their website to find a 5 pound sale going on! Yaay! Hahaha~

I’d cry if I didn’t have access to Becca, it’s one of my fav brands ever!

  • Good post. A beauty product that I really missed is Lancome’s “Aqua Fusion” moisturiser they replaced it with something else (Hydra Zen?). Loved that stuff :-(

On a separate note, why not do a post on perfumes that you miss (or not, as the case may be!)

  • finally found a moisturiser \ foundation that wouldn’t mess with my skin (Prescriptives) and as I was buying it yer wan in BTs told me they’d be going out of business in January.
Haven’t found any brand since that works quite so well.
I can even SLEEP in the Prescriptives stuff and don’t break out the next day…

  • Definitely Pout. I was a poor student when it was around so only had a couple of lip plumping glosses but I lusted after a lot of other things but had zero funds.

I love Illamasqua but you can still get that on ASOS afaik so I don’t count that so much although it is better to have a counter.

  • MsRoyalSapphire; I have the MAC magically cool liquid powder in the lightest shade called ‘Truth & Light’. It isn’t shimmery at all and is lovely as an all over face powder. Especially in summer, as the cooling sensation is fab!

  • Reme-thats wot i loved bout the prescriptives. I got mac mineralize skinfinish today but if the liquid powder takes away shine without being too shimmery i tink i will get that.

  • Not sure if “too faced” has upped and left Irish shores but it has scattered from debenham’s in cork, would have liked to try some of their products.

  • Fetish Cosmetics went out of business. They were around in the late 1990s. I was 13 then and I thought they were the coolest thing around. The only place you can find them now is Ebay.

  • Pout for the amazing lip glosses, and Pescriptives for the custom blend foundation. Both missed greatly.

  • Aw I miss Constance Carroll tropical roller lip gloss, clear mascara and Rimmel Heather/coffee shimmer. :D

  • I worked in a salon that used USpa and Uskincare, aussie brands. She closed last year and not for love nor money can I find it and any supplier links I’ve seen online are in the back end of nowhere :( Amazing brand, transformed my skin!!

  • I miss Nue Blue Eriu as well! But brand wise i miss Becca – i know you can get it online at Mise but i miss trying it in person. I also used to like ASAP – brand that i could get at a beauty salon in town that has sadly closed down :(

  • Pout and Illamasqua. I stocked up on half-price Pout by calling their Covent Garden branch as they were closing down.

  • I loved Pout so much – I wonder what went wrong with their business as they were so universally loved!

Harvey N’s in dundrum has a lot of niche perfumes. Not sure of the exact brands though.

  • I’m still mourning Jacqua brand – two sisters from California produced the best, the very best, body products ever. My absolute fave was the buttercream frosting body cream – amazeballs!

  • Armani Hydra Glow foundation…I miss it so much :-(

  • Prescriptives lipsticks, Calvin Klein cream eyeshadows in the dinky tubes, Mary Quant.

    Showing my age here ….

  • Bourjois is who I miss the most. I can’t find it any where in the states or sold online to the states. Le sigh…

  • Was waiting for someone to mention Constance Carroll…!

I remember Red Earth from when I lived in Oz, lovely stuff. Got excited when I saw a shop on the quays in Dublin called Red Earth, but it’s a tile shop sadly.

  • It’s got to be pout, still miss it. Have a few of their products but I try and use them sparingly as I can’t part with them

  • Maybe I’m wrong but I’m fairly sure there’s a Becca counter in Arnotts that set up a few months ago?

@geek faerie they sell Bourjois in Boots and Unicare pharmacies

Most of the Nue Blue Eriu products (both make up and fragrance) are sold in Space Nk @ Harvey Nichols dundrum.

I really miss the Jessica Simpson Dessert Products-they used to smell amazing! So glad Shu Uemura is coming back, love their eyeshadows! I wish we had a Sephora in Ireland. Also wish we had a “B Beautiful” store…it’s Lush’s sister company.

  • Orla – Becca was in Arnotts when their revamped beauty hall opened but disappeared from Ireland shortly after. Definitely the one I miss the most, their shade range for pale ladies is excellent and their compact concealer is the best I’ve used. Picked it up again in London a few months ago after using the previous one for about 3 years! (sorry, gross I know).

  • Pout….i’ll never be over Apricot Totty Blush :’(

  • I got so excited when I saw the pic of that Pout duo eye shadow, I thought it was coming back! I loved Pout it was not only packaged prettily but the eye shadows and lip glosses were great. I too have a stash, but I was jealously holding on to my last Pout Plump, but recently lost it..sob, I keep hoping to find it down the back of the couch! I unfortunately carry around about 6 different lip products in my bag,so it took me a bit to notice it was missing so I have no idea where is could be! :0(

  • I really miss Pout, loved their tinted moisturiser, as well as a brand called Ultima II. They used to do a lovely highlighter called Glowtion, and had really distinctive packaging.

Constance Carroll used to be my fave makeup brand when I was young and first getting into make up. Every girl at school had the pressed powder and roll on lip glosses. Spectacular nail polishes, the Maybelline cream eyeshadows in the little tubes and Miss Selfridge make up used to be popular too.

Also miss Revlon Skinlights, they were the only highlighters which seemed to work on me!

  • wow lotta love for pout! i never got on that buzz but people were mad for it. how could it go out of business with so many fans?

i miss illamasqua. you can get it online but you really do need to try on make up first. how else to figure out if shades will suit?

i dont know why they pulled out of ireland, but actually i dont think a lot of people knew they were even here. they could have put a weee bit more effort into their marketing no?
