Vichy LiftActiv Retinol Night: turn out the lights and snuggle down, this stuff is great

By Aisling | March 22 2010 | 12 Comments

Oh c’mere I thought. I really have to start blogging about some of the stuff I use every night. For instance I went through a whole bottle of lovely Nuxe serum without a word (shameful, I will write a review I promise) and I will not let that happen to this Vichy night cream.

For you see I love it.

Vichy are a really under appreciated brand I think. Other brands (like Boots) make a huge noise about their scientific results and their clinical trials to yawnarama effect- Vichy have solid scientific data to back up their claims too. But is it because they’re French that they like to remain understated and a hell of a lot more chic? I think so.

We told you all about the Day version of this cream when it launched and we liked it a lot. LiftActiv Retinol Night (€34) has three times the concentration of Hyaluronic Acid than the day version and this, combined with Retinol and Adnosine, means that this is a hydrating and anti wrinkle powerhouse. I’m not going to even try to attempt to explain the science here: it just is, roigh?  (Read this excellent guide to anti aging ingredients instead).

Plus huzzah, the squirty nozzle yoke seems to have been fixed so that the cream doesn’t go everywhere (which resulted in me wasting half the tube of the Day version). And just in case that’s not enough moisturising goodness for you LiftActiv Retinol Night is also enriched with Glycerin to hydrate, Shea Butter and Soya Butter.

Read this if you’re wondering why night cream is such a great idea anyway.

really like the idea of this too as it happens, loved the science of the day one etc but it wasn’t moisturising enough for me – but this at night, used with my regular oil is way more appealing.

Kirstie – me too! Night one is totes amazing. Love it with serum underneath

  • Covey says:

Just wondering is this good for any age?

I’m 23 myself, and just wondering if this might be too heavy or whether it suits all. I know night creams sometimes tend to be naturally richer anywhoo, so would this do the job or should I veer towards something else?

  • Aphrodite says:

Covey – you wouldn’t need this – it’s heavy duty anti ageing stuff, you can get away with a much lighter cream. Do a site search for ‘night cream’ and you’ll get lots of recs

That reminds me, I really need to buy a new night cream.
I’m alternating between Dermalogica Skin Smoothing cream (which is running out fast as I’m also using it for day) and slapping on a bit of Bio Oil a few nights a week just because I want to use it up.

I’ve been dithering not knowing what night cream to get so I might give this one a go!

Do you use oils on your skin as well as a night cream at night, Kirstie?

  • miffyonline says:

Kirstie, like Cathyfly I am wondering could you use this in conjunction with a facial oil or regular (non-treatment) cream? I usually use Trilogy Oil, Clarins Oil or Lush Celestial, especially in winter, as my skin is quite dehydrated. I would love to add this into my regime as I used to use Avene Ystheal and I need to replace it with something for the auld wrinkles. :)

  • Pookie says:

Would this be better than the Roc Retin-ox night cream?

  • Covey says:

Cheers Aphrodite, I’ll have a look at the lighter options! :)

  • mojokiss says:

I really like Vichy but before I did my research I found the packaging very off-putting, too much information on too little space!

  • Aphrodite says:

Miffyonline & Cathyfly – yes indeed you can layer your skincare if your skin feels dry – put on your serum/oil first, let it sink in and then apply moisturiser. Just FYI There’s a serum in this range too, I haven’t used it though (Kirstie have you?)

Pookie – the Roc is good, if it suits your skin I’d keep using it. I love Vichy cos their formulas just seem to suit me

Mojokiss – I know, you just have to get used to it, it’s different to a lot of others!

I had a sample of the day version of this and I thought it was brilliant. Must try the night version after I use up current night cream, a sample size of L’Occitance Immortelle very precious cream, which is very nice too but expennnnnsive!

Thanks for clarifying about using it with oils, am using Trilogy Oil.

    HI everyone,
just had to post a comment about this skincream. I’ve been using it for about a week now and I notice my skin felt absolutely velvety when I felt it this morning!
I have never noticed this effect from a skin cream before and I was amazed.
