Tan Trials ’10: Rimmel’s Sunshimmer Line-Up

I’ve reached for a tube of Rimmel Sunshimmer Instant Tan Sun Make-Up, €7.92, a time or twenty, when an emergency tanning fix was required for impromptu nights out.

Eh, not to mention nights out that had been months in the planning but that I’d been too disorganised to bronze up for in advance.

There are a rake of other products in the Sunshimmer range, too, like the Instant Tan Maxi Pump, €11.90, which packs a whopping 250ml of either light or medium matte Sunshimmer for serious fans, or the Instant Tan Spray, €11.45 available in Golden for fair skins and Bronze for olive skinned ladies who’d rather spray their way to a glow. All are transfer resistant for up to 24 hours wear, and wash off with soap and water.

If you prefer to brush on your bronze, there are two powder compacts to choose from – I’m liking the big ol’ Maxi Bronzer, €9.91, which is ridged and loaded with golden shimmer and reminds me a bit of Lancome Star Bronzer. Sun Love is the shade I’m using and is nice and sheer with nary a hint of orange. For a more intense colour, go with the original Sunshimmer compact, €7.22.

Love this tan but its totally not waterproof, if ya get caught in the rain ya look like u have sum disease on ur legs with all the white dots and very bad if ya get a pint over ya

Transfer resistant?? Tell that to my cream dress from Thursday night, two washes and I still have residue de Sunshimmer coming on the arms of it… :(

  • legalyblonde says:

*coming up on the arms of it even…. Jebus!! The other wording sounds vaguely dirty!!

Like the maxi bronzer but have so many random bronzers at home!
The H&M bronzer is a good cheap fix (€5.95) and handy for putting in your bag, wouldnt risk putting a BB shimmer brick in my bag!

I like their Instant stuff but I find by the end of the night my legs get all itchy… After a night out with the stuff I need to shower it off before bed which is most annoying. Anyone else have this problem? I do love the Sally Hansen spray but is trés expensive!

I am duly inspired to try one of these, we are trapped in winter now (greetings from sunny Oz, Beaut.ie is a remanent I can’t let go of from my time in Dublin, sob!), and I need a bit of something to warm up the pale. At this time of year its too cruel even in our balmy winter to stand around starkers waiting for tan to dry.

  • Lenuska says:

Well I tried their instant wash off tan in medium shimmer and let me tell you – the amount of glitter in it is unbelievable, I could have us my knee as a flash lamp in the dark, had to wash it off straight away……. terrible, streaky, never again. Now, maybe the matte formula is better but I am staying with Sally Hansen anyway, way better stuff.

Keep meaning to invest in one of the bigger sun shimmer powders. Lynnie you have convinced me by saying its not orangy and is nice and sheer.

Lenuska I had the exact same problem the other night! It was awful especially when I stood in any direct lighting at all so it had to be washed off and Sally was applied… Not a good start to the evening when that happens!! :)

love this stuff! used light matte last weekend just to top up my st moriz tan, and it was perfect! i subconsciously wore black, so i dont know how much transferred to my clothes, but touching it nothing transfered onto my hands. the only problem is that at 3am when you get home and all you want to do is get into bed, you have to find your way into the shower first!
