The Low-Down: Current Cosmetic Crushes

By Beaut.ie | February 18 2010 | 51 Comments

I recently got a new fancy digital SLR camera so it’s gonna be swatch-central round here, mark my words. I haven’t a bogs notion yet how to get the best out of it (camera course, here I come, STAT), but my attempts to point and click are delivering semi-passable results so I thought I’d share with you a few bits and bobs I’m using a lot at the moment.

Lets start with that little shadow up there on the top left, shall we:

  • it’s a Benefit Velvet Eyeshadow in Where There’s Smoke, and you can see its compadre down by the pot of Erase Paste. That shade is Rich Beach, and I’m using these together a lot for work recently – the texture is very creamy, they’re not too shimmery and they’re very easy to work with. Nice packaging, too
  • I am shockingly pale right now and am using bronzer quite a bit, which to be honest I normally never do. My product of choice is Bobbi Brown’s Illuminating Bronzing Powder in Bali Brown. It’s very sheer – important! – delivers the teeniest smidgen of colour – important! – and has a very subtle shimmer which wakes up my winter skin – important!
  • Beside it is Chanel’s Poudre Cristalline. I’ve had this product for a while but a recent chat with makeup artist Christine Lucignano made me dig it back out. It’s designed to deliver a HD-ready effect to skin and she raved about it. On my skin, the jury’s still out I’m afraid, it delivers a papery look that I’m not thrilled by. More testing required!
  • Behind both products you can see Clarins Blue Orchid Oil peeping out – check out my thoughts on that here. I use this at night before bed.

  • Two Origins products next (truly, my love of Origins knows no bounds). The foundation is not on-counter yet and I’m testing it happily – keep an eye out for a review soon. It’s called Youthopia SPF15 Skin Firming Foundation with Rhodiola, and so far, so good
  • My day cream of choice is Origins Make a Difference - it is truly wonderous and fantastic
  • Front row: the little pot is a Barbara Daly mousse eyeshadow in a nice creamy shimmery dark silver-grey. Great as a wash of colour but equally good as a base for a smokey eye
  • Smashbox blush in whore-tastic pink (can’t remember exact shade, sorry!). Also, the second I took this pic I dropped said blush and shattered it into a billion tiny, messy pieces.
  • Behind is Benefit Sugarbomb, (yes, having a little B love recently, it seems) sitting beneath my Bobbi Brown bronzer. This is their latest blush must-have.
  • Behind the aforementioned Benefit eyeshadow is a beeeeutiful and super-sparkly gloss from *sob* Prescriptives. It was part of last summer’s collection and is just gorgeous – loads and loads of glitter and shine and when it finishes I will be very sad.
  • Lastly, another Benefit product – my trusty pot of Erase Paste is almost done and it’s been a brilliant beauty bit

That’s me – what are you using all the time at the moment?

    Love posts like this!! :)

    My everyday essentials are:
    MAC tinted moisturiser
    YSL Touche Eclat
    ELF Complexion Perfection
Les Tissages De Chanel blush in Coral Tweed – it’s lovely, definitelly one of my favorites, alongside with MAC The Perfect Cheek

Dr.Hauchka Normalising Day Oil at nights

  • Kirstie says:

alchemystee – you know, I’m not, or wasn’t. But recently there have been several things I have really really liked!

  • daiseeboo says:

Wow that blush looks fab. At the moment my beauty staples are:

    Trilogy Rosehp Oil
    Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel
Clinique All About Eyes Rich(I heart this)
    Mac Studio Fix Fluid Foundation
Star Bronzer Cream to Powder Bronzing Veil
    Benefit Get Even Powder
    Mac Select Cover-Up Concealer
Have just replaced my Touche Eclat with Erase Paste so see how that goes
    Benefit Lemon Aid
    Mac Powder Blush in Style
Elizabeth Arden Sun Goddess Bronzing Powder in Sun Goddess
Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm & Carmex Lip Balm(one in bag, one in bathroom)
EA 8 Hour Sheer Lip Tint
My new favourite BB Cabana Corals Palette
    Benefit Smokin Eyes Palette
Trilogy Night Cream (jurys out on this one)

God, that seems like an awful lot for one little face but the bronzing products are generaly night time ones and the rest are day time, yep my sis was right I do put an awful lot of crap(I would probably choose a nicer word myself) on my face.

  • Keila says:

I’m too lazy at the mo to write my full list but I got the MAC Ample Pink Plushglass for my kris kindle and I absolutely love it. My other fave lipgloss is Prescriptives in Sassy and I will also be very sad when it’s gone. Managed to get my Prescriptives foundation in the States a few months ago but i will be really missing the brand.

  • Olaola says:

    I currently use;

Bourjois foundation (not sure of the name)
    trilogy rosehip oil at night.

& I own a mascara but so seldom use it I cant think of the name!

Don’t have much of a mekeup habit but i make up for it on what i spend on my hair/products.(not that you’d know by looking at it!)

  • Jenni says:

Daiseeboo – is that the Trilogy anitageing night cream in the jar? I’m using that at the moment too and can’t decide if I like it or not. The smell is odd, not nasty or anything, just odd!

  • daiseeboo says:

Jenni – it’s the Trilogy Age Proof Replenishing Night Cream. It’s doing a good job, when I wake up in the morning my skin is healthy looking and nicely plumped but I don’t like it when it goes on. I find it dulls my skin and adds a greyish look, like it sits on top and doesn’t sink in. This is not a major issue as I am slapping it on and then jumping into bed and as I say the results are really good but for some bizarre reason I am finding this really off putting. Having put that down in black and white I now feel a little crazy! I like my moisturisers to sink in straight away and give that instant glow, am I asking too much from my night(I’m lying in the dark for 8 hours and not a sinner is gonna see me) cream?

  • Glamazon says:

Kirstie – I have just recently started using the BB illuminating bronzer in Aruba (gorgeous pale golden colour) and you are right – very sheer. Do you find it is quite sparkly in the compact but thankfully not as shimmery on? I hope it isn’t just my mirrors deceiving me as I want to use it for daywear too.

    I am currently using:

BB hydrating face and eye creams.
    Laura Mercier oil free primer.
La Prairie Skin Caviar Foundation – creme blush.
BB Creamy Concealer – warm ivory.
BB loose powder – pale yellow or Chantecaille translucent powder (handbag).
BB shadows (Chrome or Velvet Plum).
    BB gel liner – graphite.
BB lip liner – med rose.
BB colour rich gloss – pink raspberry or tutu.
    BB illuminating bronzer in Aruba.
BB blush – Peony or Tawny.
    BB Everything Mascara.

When the weather picks up a bit I fully intend to update to the Cabana Corals for spring.
