SS10: YSL Rouge Volupte in Brun Beaubourg & Peche Faubourg

By | April 15 2010 | 15 Comments

Did I ever mention a time or 25 that YSL’s Rouge Volupte lipsticks are my tip of the top, cream of the crop favourites? Aaah jess love’em, ladies. Beee-you-tiful packaging, creamy, lush textures and a stellar shade line-up are what makes these stand out for me. Ok, longevity isn’t the best now to be 100% honest, but hey, I’m not a person who’s outraged by re-application and I can live with that based on all the pros these lipsticks have.

Above you can see two newbies which are part of the spring collection, so yes, they’re on counter right this very second. Left is  Peche Faubourg and on the right is Brun Beaubourg. Now, the latter is a shade I’d describe as ‘gick’, but the dreamy creamy peachy coral of Peche Faubourg is a delight. It looks Neapolitan ice cream-tastic when shot with its beige counterpart, so I thought I’d show you both.

This 60s-shaded superstar is a very retro shade: quite a bit of white seems to be in the mix there, and if you’re terrified of deep corals, then this is an apricot-y peach shade that will look killer with a bit of a tan. Love it!

A swatch of both is after the cut.

You can really see how pigmented and creamy these are – they’re very comfortable in wear and don’t dry the lips out at all, I’ve found.

A terrible altogether pic of my lips, wearing Peche Paubourg – really, Kirstie, learn how to shoot your face a bit better, wha?

Interested? These boyos are at the €30 price-point.

Would you say coral lipsticks would be good on there own without doing eyes up or are they neutral enough that you can do eyes aswell??

  • Kirstie says:

they’re quite retro so fab with some winged liner I think. Brown liner would be nice and soft too.

these look gorgeous – i’ve a good few lipsticks but i hardly ever wear any of them – i feel a little too done for daytime and then in the evening i spend ages on my eyemakeup so go neutral on the lips.

Has everyone ever heard of besame lipsticks? i saw an article on another blog – they look retrofabulous!

baby in a corner, yep, they are amazing but very hard to get. I think we’ve something waaay back in the archives about ‘em.

  • EllieBellie says:

Wow these look divine!! Kirstie do you think someone with fair skin and champagne blonde hair could pull off the coral colour or would it just look all wrong?

  • Kirstie says:

elliebellie – try it at the counter first! it is very retro but can see it working in a sandra dee way.

I snapped up the Peche Faubourg out of sheer disbelief that the other half was so enthused about the colour, got home and hated it. The colour is sooo pigmented and i’m a MAC NC20, but now i’m rocking it with a taupey eye i chuffing love it. It’s an office appropriate statement lip.

Just shows how misleading photographs can be – in the first pic the lipsticks look like a baby pink and a soft lilac. That’s one of the reasons I’d never buy make-up online unless perhaps it was a repeat buy (rare for me) – you just can’t tell what the colours are really like, let alone what they’d actually look like on you.

Glad to see you had the aul tash wax before the photo

One of my favourite lines from a movie is mother to daughter on a bus to Tallaght in Intermission ‘Would you not get an aul bit of Imaac for that ronnie your cultivatin’ on your lip there’ and then when the daughter asks the bus driver how bad it is he replies ‘well it’s no Tom Selleck’. Brilliant!

I have the Brown shade already no28, looks nothing like that in real life. Infact it was sort pinky/brown neutral on me.
