Sonia Kashuk at Target: US Beauty Booty

You all saw what I brought home as pressies for the blog but what did I actually buy for my own personal self when I was in New York recently? Er, not a lot to be honest!  I did have a couple of things on my list though, and I managed to tick both of them off nicely. I’ve already blogged about going to Rescue Beauty Lounge and I’ve showed you my mani and polish purchases, so the other brand I was really keen to try to get hold of was Sonia Kashuk.

Cindy Crawford’s makeup artist, Sonia Kashuk has a much-praised line of cosmetics available at Target and while Space NK in the UK used to carry the range, we don’t have access to it here. It was also a lot pricier in Space NK than it is stateside, so rather than go down the mail order route from England (in any case they seem to have stopped carrying it), I decided to wait until the next time I was in the US.

The Target I visited didn’t have the biggest range but there was enough to satisfy my curiosity. In particular I wanted some brushes and the liquid cheek tints.  Before we get to those, lets have a little gander at what else I picked up, shall we?

This gorgeous little palette above is the Sonia Kashuk Eye Shadow Quad in Paris Night and it cost a whopping $12.99. To my eyes, this is quite Bobbi Brownesque – the glitter is that sort of sheer one she does so well and the other shades are really flattering and nicely formulated. I haven’t done much with this yet barring swatching it.

This is the Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Set and it was a whole massive $9.99. Two cream concealer shades, one neutralizer and one translucent powder make up the offering. Not used this yet but it gets lots of love from bloggers so am looking forward to having a play.

This is Sonia Kashuk Dramatically Defining Long Wear Gel Liner in Indigo and it was another colossal price: $8.99. While the colour is swit-swoo, I’m not loving this on a first usage actually. I found it a little dry and draggy on lids. I’ll probably experiment with a couple of different brushes and trying them wet to see if that improves application.

And here are the two things I had on my list: some brushes and a Sonia Kashuk Super Sheer Liquid Tint Blush, which cost $9.99 and which I picked up in Poppy, a gorgeous, almost-water-light coral shade that’s lovely on cheeks, can be applied over liquid foundation without moving it about and which delivers a sheer, pretty flush.

I’m really sorry now I didn’t buy more than two eye brushes because these are absolutely excellent.  I *think* these are the synthetic crease brush and the medium fluffy eye brush – I can’t be sure as I’ve thrown the packaging out. But in use I am loving all over them – they are terrific and I’d happily buy more.

Have you tried anything from the brand? Leave a comment and lets get chattin’.

Ooh no I haven’t but I have heard her brushes are the biz. V. jealous.

Which Target did you go to Kirstie? So annoying that there isn’t one in the city but with all the great collaborations they keep coming up with I think I will make the effort to get to one next time.

Weeeeird. I had never heard of the brand before and literally just today I’m after buying one of the brushes from eBay on recommendation from Keiko Lynn (a fab beauty and fashion blogger state-side) http://www.keikolynn.com/2010/11/makeup-monday-how-to-classic-winged.html

Only ordered it today as I said, so I’ll have to see if it’s as good as the other brushes you ordered Kirstie, I’ll definitely be ordering more!

a completely SHITE one on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. Was like TK Maxx. Highlight was obese women driving themselves around in motorised shopping trollies cos they couldn’t walk. Rotten – I pray all Targhay’s are not the same because if they are we should all start banging on about Heaton’s being hipster heaven.

Got a lovely set of travel brushes when I was over there last year, double ended foundation & concealer brush, double ended shadow and liner brush, double ended round blush & slanted blush and another double ended brow and lash brush. They were in a little white baggie and very nice indeed. Lovely for a few days away. I’ll definately be picking up a few more bits when I’m back in the states.

Kirstie, on a SLIGHTLY similar slant, if you enjoy that about Target, tell me you’ve seen peopleofwalmart.com?!

    ha HA! Yes I have!

That Paris eye palette is very BB – love those colours.

I bought quite a few of the brushes from spacenk when they had a sale last year – they seemed to be clearing out all of the SK stock and the brushes were next to nothing. They are super soft.

I love the look of her stuff, esp the brushes and that top eyeshadow set. What Target did you go to? I always want to go to one when I’m in NY but they always seem miles away.

I bought some of the brushes when SpaceNK decided to discontinue the range at the beginning of the year. Really excellent quality they are too. Now in the sale the blush brush was going for £5!!!

Have to admit I did read reviews on MUA to find the cream of the crop brush wise and bought based on that.

Hey Kirstie, i’m sorry to hear that Target has gone downhill, i was in it around 4 yrs ago and it was fab!! I got my Sonia Kashuk stuff in Target in Florida last year, i got 2 brush sets, those ones you have above and also the mini battered metal ones, they’re absolutely fab. Also got the smokey eye shadow set and it’s amazing. never tried the tint but i am LOVING the colour of the one you have there so might give it a bash, off to the US of A in Feb so will def be picking up more of her stuff! such great bargains in her range and handily situated next to the ELF stuff in the Target I was in last yr :)

Ha Kirstie I’m afraid your description sounds spot-on for all the Targets I was in when I lived in Australia so maybe they don’t get much better. Granted that was five years ago though. It really is hard to square it with all the fancy designer collabs isn’t it? Rodarte have done a collection for them for God’s sake – not exactly the kind of thing you would think your average obese middle-aged Rascal user would be into

letsmakeup – I had NOT seen that website and wish to thank you for bringing it to my attention :)

  • letsmakeup says:

Fee, so glad I could be of assistance! ;)

  • Kirstie says:

Fee – totes! I got aphrodite one of the mulberry for target bags and they were just sitting there in a sea of Matalan-alike crap. Bonkers.

  • Aisling Aphrodite says:

it is gorgeous – super cute!

  • katie says:

oh my god do not slate matalan!!! the home of amazing cheap winter boots! how could you do that!

also, i know it’s rude to ask but how much was the mulberry for target? i’ve my eye on the velvet one on the website but there’s no price listed!

  • Kirstie says:

it was $14.99 I think – there were bigger ones for about $50 but they were gick.

  • katie says:

i’m kind of disappointed that they have “for target” plastered all over them but do like the look of the small velvet one…wonder if they’ll have a better range in after the new year….or maybe i’ll win the lotto and buy a real mulberry…

  • Rosamaria says:

Was in some wondrous Targhays in Florida – barely saw the customers, too busy gazing in awe at the prices! (and the sizes of products in the grocery aisles, accidentally bought a GALLON of milk)
