Party Prep: Classic Glam With Old Gold

gold shadows

New Year's Eve represents a bit of an opportunity to take your beauty look in a different direction. Brights, glitter, dramatic - hey, it's all go. Stick with a classic red lip and winged liner or take a deep breath and actually wear that damson lipstick you've been chickening out trying of since you first bought it.

So, with that in mind, what'll your NYE style be? Safe, or brave?

On the safe side of things, I think a bit of a golden oldie'd be really pretty: Nars' Etrusque shadow from the Holiday collection has inspired this one. It's a beautifully creamy metallic warm gold shade and while it maybe shouldn't work on my skin, I find it does. Pricey - not to mention hard to get - at €24, this applies so easily, can be foiled on or sheered out and looks fab with deep lips, black liner and the minimum of makeup elsewhere.

Something you might be able to actually pick up today however, is Essence eyeshadow in Party all Night. You'll pay just a couple of quid for this and it's so good for the price, being really creamy and pigmented. A more taupey shade than the definite yellow tones in Etrusque, it has a sheeny metallic finish and is a nice shimmery neutral that will flatter pretty much everyone.

The best bit about both of these shadows is there's no glitter - just a sophisticated shine, so you won't look like you've been made over by Homer Simpson's Makeup Gun set to GAA Disco circa 1998.
